That is a simple and effective tie that you could do while on the road and not have to bring a lot of materials. I can see it being a killer predator fly. I wonder what kind of action difference a zoo cougar spun deer style head would do for that fly? Especially since you suggest a full sinking line. I may have to tie both and find out. Hey loving the series, this may be a little off topic but I’ve been tying for about 2 months and I’ve got a question about the anatomy of the vice. What is the circle spring for?

To hold materials you are tieing. Especially long pieces of feather, etc. Stick it down between 2 coils on the spring and it will stay there in the correct orrientation.

where can i get the mari bu soft hackle by hairline??? The amozon???I searched the net, been to field and stream, cabelas, bass pro and no one has soft hackle marabu by haireline, metz,whiting farms. Any substution sugestions. i have ratty buck tail but cannot locate the feathers. Throw me a bone dude!
