A really good example of someone who within minutes of them opening their mouth you know that they are an absolutely solid and squared away individual.

Those long range patrols the boys conducted in Jamie's first 2 tours actually hark back to New Zealand's first introduction to Special Forces activities. The Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) of WWII was a group that when it was first formed, mainly consisted of kiwi soldiers from the 2nd New Zealand Division based in the desert. Their missions were similar to these missions, later they combined with a another newly formed group of Brits, called The Special Air Service, the SAS. In the first missions, the SAS were taken into their AO by the LRDG, learnt their tactics and it was said that the SAS and LRDG destroyed more german aircraft on the ground then the RAF, in the desert AO.

I worked with 'Bomber' on the set of Spartacus a few years back. He came and taught a big group of us Roman soldiers how to march and a few other bits and pieces. If it was the same Bomber he was bald if I remember correctly. You could tell straight away he was used to giving orders! He talked about his military service but obviously didn't say a word about being in the SAS. Small world here in NZ. Awesome podcast. I'm glad we've got guys like Jamie representing our military throughout the world and making people like me proud of our contribution as a country. Takes a very special kind of human being to be able to do what these guys do. The vast vast majority of us have no doubt dreamed and imagined ourselves of being in such units many times but only a tiny tiny few men have the mental and physical capabilities to do this type of work. Thanks Jamie.

It’s an honour you invited service man J. His one example of person “who dares win”. I got his book and it’s really an example of being the tip of the spear. Anything can happen so it needs a special kind of breed to be in that operation. Thankful for his service to our country.

So he went and did selection for 21 SAS in the UK. It's important to note that even though he said he found it very tough, 21 SAS selection (together with 23 SAS and the SBS(R)) is NOT what 22 SAS and the SBS do. It is far less arduous, for example they don't any jungle phase at all, which is considered the most difficult phase by most. Only 22 SAS and the SBS do full UKSF selection.
