The repeater cameras seem to be much more useful for parking than for blind spot monitoring

I think so. It made sense to make them available, but the best thing would be to let us have the top 20% of the backup camera up while also having the navigation viewable.

@@TheTechofTech They could do a lot, even the ful-screen view could have a small nav window in the space between the repeater feeds. I'd like it flipped with the repeater-Nav-repeater above and rear view below. Then also have the option of only showing the top part of the rear and putting e.g. your music in the new space. An option to put your music between the repeaters and nav in the wider space too - with an icon to quickly flip those around would be excellent.

Backup camera is just that, for backing up. Hence the wide view to the bumper of the car. I find the repeaters useful for backing out of the garage. By properly adjusting the side mirrors to SAE standards there are no blind spots on any car.

Mirror size matters, and they’re pretty small on the Model 3. No matter where you have them adjusted, their FOV is still smaller than what you need for observing not only vehicles in an adjacent lane but also vehicles in non-parallel lanes, such as when merging. Thanks for watching!

The rear and side cameras are just good for parking, that’s it. I can see just fine out of the mirrors while driving, people are trying to overcomplicate things. It’s a freakin’ tiny ass car.

I like the repeaters for seeing more easily how close you are to the road edge. Especailly helpful here in Europe with our narrow roads.

Ultimately, what would be best is to have the computer put together a seamless, 360 degree view from all cameras into one view, and corrected for the fisheye perspective to a normal perspective, THEN place it at the bottom 20% of the screen, adjusted for whichever direction you want to display -- behind the car or to the left or to the right, etc. I would also want to keep all of the existing, individual views, except that I'd like to be able to correct the fisheye perspective to a normal perspective for any camera if desired. And, each view should be able to show fully across the width of the screen (no black bands, show as much width as possible).

Would be interesting to see if that were possible.

I’ve found the cameras much more valuable for backing up next to curbs (much like auto tilt mirrors). On the highway the mirrors are way more useful than the repeater cams. I completely agree I’d like to see that 20% view with Nav in the background.

Completely agree....I thought the same thing many times while driving...Great info!

On the screen, I found the repeater images to be notably less bright than the rear view image. For backing up and parking lot maneuvers, this does not seem to matter much, even in bright sun, but for highway use, the repeater images are next to useless in bright sunlight, especially in morning or evening situations while driving toward the sun. I tried using all three images after the update enabling this was released, but found myself reverting to strictly using the tried and true rear and side view mirrors on the car. Looking toward the source of a potential danger is more natural than looking away from it in order to see it.

Do you still lose the nav screen if you change it to street view as apposed to the satellite view?
@TheTechofTech
@TheTechofTech 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The map dims so it doesn’t show up between the repeater cameras when you have all three up. It makes sense for that view, but Tesla needs to bring it back for just the rear camera view.

I've really enjoyed using this update when parking in tighter spots. Also fairly decent for blindspots on the highway

On the highway, I don't see anything in the repeater camera that I don't see much larger in the backup camera, and only the top 20% of the view is needed to see that.

I like the details in your videos. It’s too bad that a software update ruined the use of your clip accessory. 😞

Thank you! I do hope they step that one back, or more importantly, natively make the view that clip provides with navigation viewable above it.

Do you think there's any hope for a feature like the Porsche Taycan and many more have, a 3D top view for parking? Sounds like it should be fairly easy to implement since Tesla's effectively have double the cameras cars like the Porsche Taycan and such.

I think we will see that with the 4D re-write, no reason for them not to do it.
@TheTechofTech

The cameras don’t point the right directions for that, sadly. Birdseye view requires a camera in the nose and cameras under each side view mirror pointing directly down. There is no software trick to fix not having the image in the first place.

@@TheTechofTech interesting, I wasn't aware the cars supporting Birdseye view have the cameras placed like that. Thanks

Tesla is having global issues with their servers today, and they’re very slow to respond. You might have to wait a minute or two after clicking the referral link for the order page to pop up. Wait until it says “Save with Cameron’s referrals” at the top, and you should be good to order with your free Supercharging. Thanks for using my link!
