The reason you struggled to get the front strut to clear under the fender - and the reason the knuckle didn't drop any further when you loosened the tension arm bolt to subframe - was because the brake line was completely tight and being stretched by trying to force it downwards... If you remove the caliper, so the brake line isn't limiting the movement, and unplug the wheel speed sensor, the knuckle can then drop down as far as you want. You'll want to loosen the control arm to subframe bolt as well to save that bush also being twisted - unless M3 LCA which have a spherical bearing.

Love the video but wanted feedback on the transition from koni sport yellow to the koni actives. I just bought the yellows but am not entirely happy and are considering selling the yellows for the actives but its hard to find someone who has had both until I stumbled upon your well made, well narrated and just well done video. Love to hear from you, thanks

@rschneid19962 жыл бұрын
Good video. As a suggestion for the front struts removal / install, you can attach a spring compressor to the coil and compress the spring an additional 1/2" or so. This makes it easier to swing the assembly in and out.

Do you need to upgrade anything else when putting coils on these cars such as control arms or bushings or anything of the sort? I have an x-drive model not sure if that matters
@pugs13772 жыл бұрын
Nice. Not much of a drop. I wound up going with dinan springs on my 335 xdrive. They had the least drop of any lowering springs. I was going to go with bc or fortune coilovers but they were on back order for several months at the time so being impatient I got the dinan springs and koni yellows. Awesome ride compared to the 100k stock struts

Definitely! And honestly there's no point in coilovers unless you need to go very low, or will be tracking the car. Thanks for watching Pugs 😎

Awesome… thanks for sharing. New to the channel 👊🏽. I’ll be doing my front and rear in the coming weeks as I jus put in an order with Cygnus - x1. Question… I’m all about replacing/upgrading parts while I’m in their. How difficult is it to upgrade/replace the rear subframe bushings and other parts? Where in FL are you at? Again, thanks for sharing 👊🏽
@TheBimmerBarn2 жыл бұрын
The subframe bushings require a special tool and you must lower or completely remove the rear subframe to install. Sadly that's a job of its own! 😅
@richcruz89242 жыл бұрын

@@TheBimmerBarn you can make a tool from parts available from a hardware store....BUT it's still a JOB, took me about a month over winter to do them in my 335iS
@iamauser21982 жыл бұрын
I have done this job twice. Both times I had to unbolt the front tie rods to make enough room to get the front strut out. Are you sure no damage is being done to your front tie rod when you do the job like this? I don't have a shop manual so maybe I am just missing something here.
@TheBimmerBarn2 жыл бұрын
What I do to get a little extra room was turn the steering wheel away from the side I'm working on. Also, removing the tie rod would definitely help, but then it's just a pain to put the new strut in IMO. The service manual recommends removing the "wishbone" (lower control arm) first in order to remove the strut. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for watching, Stoney!
