Just to note on the Pulse Rifle, there are two crucial details from the Colonial Marines Manual on the Caseless 10mm M1309 Round the rifle is chambered in. Specifically? It's muzzle velocity and weight. Now, while that alone doesn't translate to understanding all of its ballistic data (not that we'd need to anyways), we can at least get a basic grasp of what kind of power they wanted out of this cartridge. It's a 210gr bullet traveling at 840m/s, which equals roughly 4800 Joules of energy. To compare? 7.62x51mm NATO typically has an energy of 3500 Joules. Colonial Marines are equipped with a gun that is blasting these kind of bullets at 900rpm... And they have 90+ rounds per magazine too... Also, technically, the bullets also blow up-intended to detonate as the round enters your insides.
@ilikesaying2 жыл бұрын
Like bolters from WH40k but smaller, faster-firing and with a larger ammo count
@stephenbolding80942 жыл бұрын
Spot on. Games like Aliens: Colonial Marines and even the newer Aliens: Fireteam Elite do not understand what the Pulse Rifle is. It’s not just a futuristic sci fi M4. This is a game changer. There would not be submachine guns or what have you post this thing. The Pulse Rifle ticks almost every box for military small arms it can. The Smart Gun even would be more of an anti-technical, overwatch platform more than anything. The M41A pulse rifle is a sub machine gun, a rifle, a squad automatic weapon and can also provide grenadier capability. As you said above these things have a 95 round magazine. That’s insane. The technical manual even has Marines using the grenade launcher as a pocket mortar. Hicks bringing a shotgun wouldn’t have even made real sense. He just likes extra weight. Even the flamethrowers would be situational at best in the face of the pulse rifle. When it comes to sci fi weaponry, the Pulse rifle is up there with Star Treks phaser and Judge Dreads lawgiver. True evolutionary weapons.
@newrecru1t2 жыл бұрын
@@ilikesaying In effect, pretty much. However, Bolters in 40k are distinct in that their rounds are also propelled by jet fuel for extended/consistent ranged performance. There's normal propellant pushing it out of the gun, and then the bullet's thrusters propels itself after leaving the barrel.

At least in Aliens it was probably intentional. They sent enough forces to confirm it was the Xenomorph species attack they had been presumably hoping for since they established a colony right next to the Xenomorph egg ship, made sure it didn't have the heavy support, numbers or specialist tools they would need to actually wipe out however many xenomorphs were made, but stand a reasonable chance of having enough survive first contact to get an infected individual or two back to the ship. All you need is to make sure the android declares the facehugged person needs to be put in cryo for medical reasons, and then as long as your android lives long enough to take off and get out, it's mission accomplished. Hell the part where they are a low-discipline ragtag team makes sense here - it would be the easiest group to blame if they got killed off for lack of support , as clearly it was a discipline issue. And if the main witness to WY's activities on the planet happens to also die in a suicide mission they can justify her going on, perfect.

The core rulebook came out in late 2019 and they've had two excellent expansions for it so far. Whether you're a Weyland-Yuntani employee, a humble space trucker or an awesome Colonial Marine, there is something for everyone there. Likewise the Aliens: Fireteam Elite video game did a good amount of work to further expand on the lore laid down in the RPG, to the point where events in the RPG are directly referenced in the game. The game itself is a bit short and gets stale once you wipe out campaign but if you want a $40 dollar team based horde shooter, I highly recommend it. I'm surprised that a film that came out in 1979 has so much lore... Well then again, Star Wars exists, though true expansion of that universe didn't happen untill the late 90s

I know that you did an episode on HNL and The Flood so I was thinking that it might be pretty cool to do an episode on the Upside Down and a few of it’s monsters and stuff like that.

The MAU however lack anyone _being left in their Star lift capability_ (Navy Starship) while they are deployed on surface operations. This is a difference from the current USMC doctrine, who *don't* leave their amphibious assualt ships completely abandoned while they are undertaking landing operations.

It is true that we never actually see any Navy personnel aboard the Sulaco, but that's probably because the movie focuses solely on Ripley and the Marines. The sailors (spacers?) were probably just doing their jobs off screen, and keep in mind that the Conestoga-class relies extensively on automated systems, which means that the only Navy personnel aboard would be the bare minimum required for the ship to run efficiently, and there's also the possiblity that they were androids commanded by a human officer.

@@TruePacifist201 I always though that, given it’s the future, the ship was almost entirely autonomous. So it just freed up everyone else for ground operations.

Don't worry. Me and my squad of ultimate badasses will protect you! Check it out! Independently targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phased plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks...

Also thought they were going to do a Jumpscare with an Alien at the end of the video.
