Lyrics
Well you didn't wake up this morning 'cause you didn't go to bed
You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red
The calendar on your wall is ticking the days off
You've been reading some old letters
You smile and think how much you've changed
All the money in the world couldn't buy back those days
You pull back the curtains, and the sun burns into your eyes
You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky
This is the day your life will surely change
This is the day when things fall into place
You could've done anything, if you'd wanted
And all your friends and family think that you're lucky
But the side of you they'll never see
Is when you're left alone with the memories
That hold your life together like glue
You pull back the curtains, and the sun burns into your eyes
You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky
This is the day your life will surely change
This is the day when things fall into place
This is the day your life will surely change
This is the day your life will surely change
This is the day your life will surely change

*I cannot believe it... I finally found this f**king song!* Ever since I was 5 years old, I’ve been trying to search this song... but I literally mean this, I’ve spent over *5.5 thousand days* looking for this song. No f**king joke, i’ve spent every single day of my entire childhood and teenage years i’ve been trying to search for this tune. It sounds like i’m over exaggerating, but this is honesty something that has been pounding in the back of my head for over a decade. Ironically, last month I heard this song played at a pizza shop, and tried to Shazam it, but it was too low to pick it up. Then it played a month later at a coffee roaster shop, and it was loud enough to pick it up on my phone, and I FINALLY FOUND! My 15 years of searching for this song has finally come to an end, my stress is honestly, and literally no more! I kid you not, i’ve tried remaking the instrumentals, spent years looking up accordion like tunes just to find this song. I’m so relieve... that’s is honestly all I can say. Thank you :,)

I found it dad, the song that came on the radio the neighbor was listening to that time we were sitting on the front porch. I couldn't remember any lyrics until I heard it in a dream about you. It was the first time I felt a real connection with you and it was for some weird random song we accidentally heard. It was also the first time we had a beer together and the first time you put your arm around me and told me you were proud of me. It was all I ever wanted to hear my whole life. It was also the last time I talked to you in person and you were awake. I don't know if you know about me posting this or can read it but it feels good to say it. I miss you.

My dad always had music playing in our house. But when he heard this song, he always stopped what he was doing to dance to this song. I remember being a little girl, and my dad grabbing me and putting my feet on top of his, and he danced us around the room, picking me up and swinging me around. It was the best feeling.

I've listened to this song through every recent major event in my life. A depressive mental breakdown, my first real break up (who ended up dating one of my best friends), and one of my best friends committing suicide, all over the last 6 months. I'm finally swinging out of it now, but I don't think I'd be as happy as I am now without this song to help me through those rough spots. Bless you The The! 1 year anniversary edit: I was just scrolling through here, when I found this comment I had forgot I had even posted. How I felt last year feels like a world away now, it's strange, but life's been looking up ever since! Even if 2021 has been a terrible year for everyone. I'm still rocking out to this song though, so don't fret lol. 2nd year anniversary: Covid's been a pain, but I'm still hanging in there! Life has offered me more challenges since those dreadful few months 2 years ago, but what's life without a challenge, eh? In any case, The The is definitely still helping me through it all. And finally, thank you for all the kind words! Coming back and reading these replys has really helped me through alot.

Groundhog Day. Nothing worse than that feeling. Change happens slowly. We just have to take little steps toward where we want to be or at least point ourselves in that direction. That’s all we can do but it’s actually a huge thing. I stand in my own way to. That’s the biggest obstacle to get past I think. Try and shove yourself out of the way😁

It was early November 2020. I got the call from the hospital. My beautiful wife was going into early labour. They’d held her the night before to keep her under observation. As I drove to the hospital, this song suddenly came on to the 80’s radio station that I listen to. As I drove, I started listening to the lyrics and they really hit me! I teared up. This was the day that things were going to change. Less than 12 hours later, I became a first time father to beautiful twin baby girls. As I held them in my arms for the first time, I discovered unconditional love. It was the day that my life surely changed and things fell into place. Having and raising twins is transformational. The last two years have had their fair share of challenges, but without a doubt - the best two years of my life. I love being a father.

Such a beautiful reflection of hopelessness and despair, with just the right amount of irony and a little bit of hope to top it all off (but is the hope sarcastic? It's hard to tell). Thank you Mom and Dad for sharing these amazing songs with me. As soon as I started listening to these old gems I was hooked instantly. Keep in mind I’m 21 years old. But young adults and my generation don’t listen to this kind of music. I see everyone listening to rap and country. But not me. You’ll see my jamming out to true music. The first time I heard this song was this year, it was my first night living in london and i was restless and homesick. I ended up on a bench in a random park and watched the sun rise. I put in my headphones, shuffled my recommended and this was the very first song that played. I had just made the biggest change of my life so far and I was terrified that I had made the wrong choice. I was completely alone in an entirely new country, in a huge city, thousands of miles away from everything i'd ever known. Hearing this song felt like fate, I'd never had lyrics speak to me so directly- it felt like the universe was telling me that everything would be alright. I made the right choice, I worked so hard to get here and now I could finally let go of that fear and truly start living. It felt like everything that had happened, everything I had been through was leading me to this moment on this park bench. I sat there and sobbed my eyes out hahaha. This song means more to me than i'd ever be able to put into words, I don't think I would've been able to be where I am now without it.

I just listened to this song, and shortly after paying attention to the lyrics, I was sobbing uncontrollably. Nobody told me that living my 20s would be this tough, I just got home from my soul-crushing dead-end job. It's not the job I wanted, it's the only one I got, I have been battling depression and hail from a long history of being abused, just trying to make it out alive seems hard enough. I think I've learned by now, that the goal in life is to live without regrets. It's easier said than done, but surely looking at things from a different perspective might help, it's all a matter of perspective or so they say. I don't know if I will make it but I still hold hope, but if there's one thing to learn is to never take anything for granted, some of you have it really good and you might not even know it, comparing yourself to others will hurt you, don't do that. Surely, this is the day.

@@keggs73 Uptick! Thank you for that! Totally forgot about that song. I live in Vietnam now, and that song has a totally different meaning to me now than what it did all those years ago. Pity, really. I had picked Morcheeba - The Sea as my perfect retro song for here.

Same. I don’t know why but I really resonate with The The. Both This Is The Day, and Uncertain Smile always put a smile on my face and make me want to sing along. Whenever I’m feeling down, I’ll start listening to both songs and I instantly feel better. Just something about them is special. If it weren’t for my Mom and Dads great taste in music, I wouldn’t have known about these gems. 70s, 80s, and 90s truly is where it’s at. Keep in mind I’m 21 years old. Most people my age and the younger generation don’t listen to this kind of music. You’ll see them jamming out to rap and country. Not me though. You’ll find me jamming out to 70s, 80s, and 90s music 🎵

@@GFettJake I’m in my 20’s too and I also listen to a lot of older music, especially the 70’s. I feel like lots of older music is raw and real and has more soul no mater what genre of music it is, especially between the musicians then most popular music today which feel kind of fake in a way. That’s why I think I love older music. Although of course there is still really good music being made today. And I do still listen to some new artists too, but most of them are not the super popular for instants pop singers. Most of the pop artists are good singers but they’re music just doesn’t move me like most older music do.

Same heard it when doing heist preps for the cayo perico heist and got a weird nostalgic feeling from it then it clicked to me that I heard it before in the past when I was younger as a kid in a old 2000s M&M commercial. Song is so good

Brazil here. Its like you've made this music for me at this moment of my life haha. Thank you The The. Facing depression and anxiety by myself, running away from everyone, hiding myself at my house, so I dont need to crush down everyone's expectation about me being happy and full of life, has been like a prison. I felt connect with every phrase of these lyrics, like all those things already happened to me again and again and happened to me today (besides the blue sky part haha today its cloudy) thank you guys for all the sensitivity of making this melody, lyrics, this song. Greetings from Brazil

I’ve been listening to this song a lifetime and it never gets old, it was our favourite on an early Sunday morning on a massive comedown after being out partying all weekend back in the late 80s , funny enough the day never came that my life surely changed but that’s ok , it’s been good , maybe I was just looking for more then.
