RIP Eric Vaughn Allen. 11/19/97 to 02/13/24. He loved this song. ❤️ He took his own life, and it has devastated me and his family. He loved going to Walmart and going out to eat. But, he was just as happy staying at home and eating noodles. His departure was sudden. But, he'd been battling depression for years and suicidal ideation. We feel as if we've failed him. He loved animals. Especially cats. He loved his computer. I write this in memory of him. On his favorite song. I will always love and miss him. I can't wait to see him in heaven. He's finally at peace, with his kitties that passed away.

As it was also a selfish act. Leaving his friends and loved ones. To not only mourn. But to feel guilty? I doubt very much you did anything wrong. Honor your friend by moving on living your life. What a powerful fucking song. Nicely said. The reason why this chord has such a big emotional impact is because it performs a modulation (from Eb to E). Modulations are such a fundamental composition technique, it is hard to understand why they almost completely disappeared in today's popular music. But who knows, judging by the success of "Leave the Door Open", maybe there will be a comeback.

Hollis started as a punk rocker and moved on from synth pop refusing to make videos and release singles. Making music for himself that people still love. A real musician and mystery man. (The punk band is the Reactions who had a song called Talk Talk Talk Talk. Not as good as the synth one but worth a listen.)
