I've heard that the Shanghaied episode was originally a special where Patchy the Pirate hosted a contest on how that episode would end based on who got the last wish, based on fan votes. SpongeBob obviously was the winner. How Patrick and Squidward's endings ended had the trio getting eaten by the Dutchman, due to Patrick wishing for gum or Squidward wished he, SpongeBob and Patrick never met. The special was later turned into an 11 minute episode an the original special was never aired again. But it does appear on the first 100 episodes DVD box set. Anyways, good luck with the Penguins of Madagascar analysis, make sure you can watch every episode because if your using Hulu last I checked not every episode was on it, so make sure you check the list of episodes to keep track.

I've been wondering about Squilliam Fancypants for some reason. He's only been in a few episodes, but in all of them he's only there to belittle Squidward in some way. This guy is supposed to be rich and famous, but he would take the time and effort to put down someone who he claims is inferior? Why? Also, has anyone noticed that Squidward's music playing was VASTLY different in the end of the Bubble Stand episode? How, normally, he's horrible; but it was just... so much... better (for lack of better words) before his giant bubble popped and caused his house to fall? Why? HOW? If his music is CAPABLE of being better than "nails on chalkboard" bad, why doesn't he play better ALL THE TIME? Is it because he's normally in a negative mood? I heard his mood is connected to his music, so... could that be it? Could Squilliam be JEALOUS of Squidward's music when the guy is happy? Is that why, whenever he showed up, it was to try to make Squidward feel bad? So Squidward couldn't play at his best? If, for whatever reason, I ended up rich and famous, I wouldn't waste time going around and making people I knew feel bad. ... just an idea that's been bugging me for a bit. I do have a problem with this, oddly enough we never hear anything about the flying Dutchman being a god while Neptune is technically just poseidon with a different coat of paint. But I don't think the flying Dutchman is Pluto himself but is instead Charon who brings the souls of those who passed away to the underworld. And there is more grounding in this then that he's Neptune's oldest brother, oddly enough I don't recall the two ever even calling each other out for being related the two don't even acknowledge one another. I also find it strange that a ghost like the flying Dutchman would gain god like powers after his death supposedly thousands of years ago, Charon would be a better pick for the Dutchman's true form than as the Roman god of the underworld.

I just realized, the "cyclops" from the spongebob movie has a strange, green glow emanating from the lens of it's helmet, and we never see a air tube running into it's helmet, this could mean the "cyclops" could be haunted and/or undead. Or perhaps he could be the dutchman himself, after all, the dutchman does seem to take the form of long dead seafarers, the "cyclops" likes to torment sea life and we know the dutchman does have the ability to transverse into the live action world, case and point the perfume department. On that note, perhaps Davy Jones isn't the dutchman himself, but a conduit for possession for the malevolent spirit of the dutchman.

Here's a wrinkle, in actual maritime lore, the Flying Dutchman is the SHIP not the master (Captain) of the vessel. The ship grabs a crew and makes it part of it permanently. (I work in maritime and this tale is pretty universal with sailors across the world in some form) What if the Dutchman is a personification of the ship? It takes a different soul when it no longer wants the current captain and sees a new one it wants. The soul takes the memories of the vessel which would bungle its own memories. This would explain a lot of which follows. And why the other ghost crew looked different, they weren't part of the vessel, they were just haunting a vessel. Think of the SpongeBob Flying Dutchman Ghost like the characters in Arpeggio of Blue Steel anime.

I think the flying dutchman is a real ghost (in the shows actual universe) the idea with legendary powerful ghosts or spirits etc is that the more people pay attention to them and fear them the more powerful they get until they turn into something as real and powerful as Freddie Krueger. This is proven by the flying Dutchman becoming powerless after people stopped being afraid of him. But I think the TV show theory works with this character.... the humans filming bikini bottom are witnessing this ghost... feeding the spirit even more whenever he's the center of an episode but the same viewers grow to like him instead of fear him... causing some big fluctuations in how scary or powerful he actually is.

The most common legend goes that the captain of the Dutch ship, his name varies but the most common is William Van der Decken, was sailing around The Cape of Good Hope, one of the most dangerous capes/shipping routes on the ocean. When a storm comes, he refuses the begging of his crew to turn back to stop, and locks them all below deck so that he can keep going. This selfish decision resulted in the death of himself, and the entire crew, and he was cursed to forever sail the seas alone. Though some versions include him having a crew. The name Davy Jones’ Locker is believed by some to be a reference to the Biblical Jonah, with the whale, and would be a sailor’s afterlife, limbo, or hell. It all depends on the version of the legend. Though, with the multiple version of Davy Jones and Neptune, perhaps they are all one and the same type of being, but have the power to appear in different forms.

Hey, I see you there using your Mort Song! 😉 Flows really well with the video. Also, I've always had this strange feeling that Patchy and the Flying Dutchman are one in the same. What evidence do I have? Not sure, other than they both have a pointy beard, and sound similar, and are both pirates. They both seem to go into these mini life crisis when things are downhill. Hate to get spooky here, but perhaps Patchy got sick of Potty's shenanigans, and sold his soul to the actual Davy Jones? I still think that it is hilarious that the singer Davy Jones rules Hell. But could this be why Patchy does not appear in later seasons? I'm sure you might be thinking the same thing, but this is all I have for now.

Theorizer, I have a Spaceballs theory that I hope you take a look at. Barfolomew (or possibly Barf Ala Mue) has a tragic backstory with his parents and a ship. ‘Abandon ship!Women and Mogs first!’ I think I’m onto something here
