This Lister Jp2 belongs to our very good friends. They really look after it, always immaculate and clean, just like their boat. B & K 👍

Yes I love the look and history of the older engines too, there is just something about the Listers ,and Bol's and this one is superbly kept too, 👌😎✌️

Later in the year I will be doing several vlogs showing other vintage engines including an immaculate Bolinder on the winner of best boat in show at the Braunston vintage rally earlier this year. Also if we are lucky ( not a firm promise ) we know another narrowboat fitted with a huge Bolinder from a ship and it makes the loudest noise we have ever heard. We love the engines but in our own boat we like quiet and modern - boo,hiss go our vintage engine friends.

Hi,I remember sailing in a stern trawler called the Atlantic Dolphin,she had a lister aux.generator of the same type it had a dry sump oil system with associated filters.It sounded great,once you managed to get it hand started.cheers Roly 🇬🇧.

Hi Roly We love the sound of a traditional engine but prefer the extra living space rather than an engine room in such a confined space. This particular vintage engine belongs to our very good friends who look after it so well. Cheers. B & K 👍🍻🙋♀️🙋

Stunningly beautiful boat, engine, engine room and boatman’s cabin. This boat is all about the journey, not the journey. Running the boat is the event. But, man, that is one very noisy puppy! Now if one could figure out how to make an engine like that which made only a quarter of the noise. I might last a Day listening to all that racket down below. The exhaust note is really divine though. That slow putt putt is something special. I saw the lights on the insides of the hull to light up that beauty at night for show and tell.

Hello This is one of our friends boat and it is truly stunning. Many boaters love having a vintage engine installed and without doubt they are very popular in traditional narrowboats. Whilst we love the old engines we would not like one in our own boat, it is far too noisy inside and takes up valuable space. A very traditional looking boat with a modern engine at the back is what we prefer but the true purist would not be a fan of our choice. Thanks for watching. B & K 👍☺😊📹

That is one mans love affair . You can see the passion that has gone into that engine.

Hello This particular boatbuilder Steve Hudson sourced old Lister JP2, JP3 and JP4 engines for enthusiasts and had them fully restored before installing them in beautiful engine rooms. Our friend who is the boat owner treats his engine as though it is part of his family. Thanks for watching B&K

Hi Bob It certainly is. Tug style narrowboats look great. The engine room is a bit bigger than normal to accommodate a lot of enhanced features. Stau safe. B & K 👍💑😷

Thanks for showing us this boat it's fantastic and I love the engine it's beautiful. It's the first time I've seen the exhaust without the tape wrapping on it (I assume that's what the sticky up bit is!). The exterior paintwork is very similar to yours. Interesting to see the tug deck. Thank you.
@TheTillerPeopleNarrowboaters7 жыл бұрын
Spot on with the paintwork, same painter for both boats. The exhaust flue you see on the top of the boat is not normally insulated on these type of boats. On the engine the large vertical brass cylinder ( part of the exhaust ) is insulated inside.

I thought the boats I'd seen with the old engines had a long section wrapped but I must be wrong. I forgot to mention the boatman's cabin. That was wonderful. I used to covet a SH boat that was for sale called Ddraig. Boatman's cabin at the back city centre apartment at the front! Amazing. I agree with your comments on B's knitting and crocheting. It's fantastic, she's an artist, very talented.

This is our friends boat. He is crazy about tradional engines and had is engine room enhanced during the build. In a future vlog we show a few other types. Lots of our friends have traditional engines but we personally prefer a modern engine 😲😨😉, again the reasons why will be covered in a winter vlog. Thank you for commenting.

Hello Greg Welcome aboard 😊. This was one of our early vlogs on our good friends boat. It was a learning curve for us in 2017 but this year we have been better (we hope). It is a lovely hobby for us which allows us to keep a personal record and also share our adventures with people that come across and like our channel. We do not livaboard but after 41 years we remain enthusiastic and of course we have made many friends on the canals in addition to those back home. Thanks for watching. B & K 👍😎😊

What was the tug boats used for with the long fore deck....
@TheTillerPeopleNarrowboaters3 жыл бұрын
It is a modern take on the old working boats. In reality the deck was very much longer and that is were the cargo was stored. Sometimes it was covered in planking. The modern tug deck has groves in it to represent the planking. A good friend of ours has an historic ice breaker with an Elm hull and teak planking, so it is very authentic but high maintenance. B & K 👍

Is that "Ecky Thump?" The build blog for her is fascinating.
@TheTillerPeopleNarrowboaters7 жыл бұрын
No but you have a keen eye. The back cabin and engine room was all done by the same joiners, engine installer and canal artist. So I can understand the similarity.

Yes, I realised it wasn't after you mentioned the tug deck, I'd already commented at that point however!
