Hi Pete and Caroline. The orange water was interesting. Why? Turns out that Hamish is the same age as my older ginger cat, BooBoo. We are so lucky to have them this long to enrich our lives. Did you find out who Perseverance belonged to? Leigh
@onedaymoreaboard8 ай бұрын
Hi Leigh and BooBoo! You are so right, they really do enrich our lives, and even though Hamish is slowing down you can tell he's still enjoying boat life. He and Dexter were so funny when we were cruising with Paul and Anthony, the two old boys putting annoying Poppy in her place quite a few times! Bopping her on the nose so she couldn't board the boat and shatter their peace! We reported Perserveance adrift to the CRT, and let them know we had retied it, so they could contact the owner. We do know it wasn't Jo and Michael's (Minimal List channel) boat Perseverance, as some people have suggested, as it was the wrong colour. hope you are keeping well 😊

That feeling thankfully doesn't happen very often, but when it does it only takes waking up to a beautiful view the next morning to set me right again! I have the Holly book too and bought one for our baking loving daughter in America too! On a mission to try every receipt in the book, although our waistlines won't approve! That's so lovely to hear! We really have got used to the size of the boat now, and it's limitations in storing our 'stuff'! The massive downsizing has been very cleansing to be honest. It made us realise that whatever space you have, you always spread into it, and making decisions about what was most important to us to keep was quite enlightening! 😊

Go Utes! As I was editing this video I was wondering if any of our American viewers would comment on Pete's Utah shirt! Our daughter Sophie absolutely loved her time at the U, and we loved to visit. The scenery is so stunning compared the the flatness of Texas where we lived, and she found her love of skiing whilst living in SLC too! She's since graduated, and now lives in Wisconsin, and says the snow is nowhere as good as Utah snow. At least her time in Utah prepared her for cold weather! It is wonderful snow! We went to visit SLC for her last Spring Break, the week before covid shut down the world. We went skiing as a family in Brighton, and Pete and I were quite happy on the bunny slopes, having only skied once before in our teens. Sophie decided we were ready for more of a challenge and took us down what she said was no way a black run! It certainly felt like a black run to us, and there was a heated family discussion along the lines of how it was like us taking her out on the interstate when we were teaching her to drive, after a few circles of the parking lot 😂

Ooh, did not envy you having to navigate in that downpour! Had to have been miserable, so sorry. There are the downsides to cruising on a narrowboat. Bad weather and emptying the toilet would not be my favorites. I see Hamish slowing down, but he's such a trooper and so cute! The boat out in the canal you guys needed to help out, it was called the Perseverance, right? Is that the one belonging to Jo and Michael of the Minimalist channel? Can't recall their boat colors, haven't seen their videos in awhile. The orange color of the water as you approach the Harecastle tunnel is familiar to me. You head north in Minnesota up towards the Mesabi iron ore range and you'll see the same in the rivers around that area. Used to be heavy mining up there. Anyway, thanks for the great vlog, as always! 😊

I have to admit I did have a bit of a sense of humour failure that day in the pouring, freezing cold rain, but it normally only takes waking up to a beautiful view to remind me that this a great life! We randomly bumped into Michael in a department store once, nowhere near a canal! Hamish really is showing his age now but still seems to be happy pottering around at his own pace, in between naps! Thanks so much for your lovely comment Mike. We had planned to cruise the Ashby Canal in the next couple of months, but the landslide has put a stop to that, and I think it's going to be sometime before it's cleared and made safe for navigation again. We have so many other places to explore though, so the Ashby can wait a while. We may even go back and enjoy Market Harborough and the Foxton locks area again so we can stay relatively close to Crick, for the Crick Boat Show at the end of May. Jo, Vic and William are just ace... and those cakes! I don't know how you'd choose which one to try. BTW, I got a 'new to me' car and it is similar to your boat color. I think it is one or two shades darker. I've been calling it aqua. That water did look like tomato bisque soup! I wouldn't like tunnels. Especially ones that are really, really long.
@onedaymoreaboard8 ай бұрын
Hi Dorothy! We love the Holly The Cafe boat crew too! We have met them a few times now and sampled quite a lot of cakes, and Vic's awesome coffee from that fancy machine, and they are as lovely in real life as they come across on their vlogs. Good choice of colour for your new to you car! The official name of our colour on colour charts is Pastel Turquoise, and we are SO glad we went out on a bit of a limb and chose it. We had been thinking some shade of grey, right up until the time that we had 24 hours to choose, or we would lose our paint slot! We get so many lovely comments about the colour, and you know you will never lose your car in a car park with it being a little different! That water at the tunnel entrance just needed a grilled cheese sandwich to dip in the tomato soup! You can come through the tunnel safely with us on the next vlog that I'm editing now. It was actually far better than the two way tunnels we have been in, like Braunston. Even though you are shut in and then hear the big fans start, which is a little disconcerting, at least you know you will not meet another boat going the other way! That for me is always the scariest moment, and it's such a tight fit! Take care, and as always thanks for watching 😊

@@onedaymoreaboard If I were much of a baker I would get Jo's cookbook so I could try to make them myself. Sadly I am not. 😊 My car is "Mystic Blue Metallic" but there seems to be two different colors with the same name. One is a royal blue and the other for my Chevrolet Spark is aqua. Very different colors. It's hard to find cars in colors now and I didn't want to replace my red hatchback with another red one. Very happy to find such a great and different color. the adorable dead end you moored at, was that in the past a canal that continued on or was it always like that..
@onedaymoreaboard8 ай бұрын
Wasn't it just perfect, like it was built just for us! From what I have been reading I think it has always been like that, and limestone was quarried and brought to the basin to be loaded onto barges and transported around the country. Here's a little more about it form the Canal & River Trust Website collections.canalrivertrust.org.uk/themes/the-history-of-bugsworth-basin 😊

Hi Lynn! That has been my plan, and a couple of times I have managed two a week as that was my goal, but life happens sadly. I am really trying my best to catch up, as I want nothing more than to feel on top of all this good footage that we have. It takes hours and hours to pull everything together with the music and maps and voice overs, etc, and I don't want to compromise the quality at all. I have set myself the end of March as a goal, we shall see how that goes! thanks for sticking with us. it's lovely to hear than you're enjoying the vlogs irrespective of how far behind they are 😊

Thanks for watching from MA! I didn’t even know there was a Swansea in MA, just Wales over here! I looked on the map to see where. Not far from Providence, which we flew into a few times to visit friends on the Cape 😊

Why do you all stay to the left on pavement but to the right on water?
@onedaymoreaboard7 ай бұрын
Good question! The canals and rivers in the UK follow global marine law which instructs vessels to keep right when passing each other. Thanks for watching 😊

Did you see the size of the rock on her finger? I'm just curious how a teenage boy can afford that?

No worries, that's what I thought! I do the same, as I watch KZbin videos on the TV, and then go back to them on my phone to leave a comment! 😂
