Senior ministers launched a furious attack on the Speaker of the Commons this evening, accusing him of breaking parliamentary protocol to help Labour avoid a rebellion over Gaza.
In a serious challenge to Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s authority Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the Commons, suggested he had undermined his independence and “inserted himself” into political row in a way that had broken “long-established” parliamentary conventions.
Hoyle was forced to apologise to MPs, saying: “It was never my intention for it to end up like this.”

His excuse is that Gaza supporters are intimidating MPs in public. It feels different now that they are impacted by open door policies and they need to push it through to bow to pressure. If it is the reason it will embolden those who pressurise and corrupt society. The no confidence was caused by Starmer who should have asked for police action instead of appeasement

The only controversy is the unprecedented change in parliamentary procedure. I don't know why anyone thinks Israel will change their mind on a ceasefire just because our parliament votes on it.

I cannot see that Betty Boothroyd would have caved into Starmer like this, she was one of the greatest speakers of all time, but the last 2 have let it all be about them and trips abroad and their private apartments.

This lady Penny Modaunt is one of the best orator, I use to watch & listen her speeched regularly, before her there were ex speaker Mr. John Bercow and Attorney Mr. Geoffery Cox were among the best orators of the british parliament but above all Mr. Tony Benn was the brilliant.
