As far as I know, Vostok does not use the patented Super Compressor case, so it *cannot* be classified as such.
@noobfl3 жыл бұрын
but technicaly, the Amphibias uses the same principle. But yes, it was a requirement for the designers of the Amphibia, to don't use any western patents in the design ;)
@brianmsahin3 жыл бұрын
It's true that Vostok don't say they use the super compressor case, but look at the design. In the past, and probably today too, one of the most important components of this type watch wasn't the case or the caseback, but in fact, it was the acrylic crystal that, as pressure was applied from the water, it pushed against the acrylic and formed an even stronger seal the deeper it went, until eventually cracking. I would say the Vostok would probably outperform most of the models you mentioned here. I've only ever taken mine to 100m down so I've never tested it, but I think there's a video showing it's impressive performance.......for a $75 watch, it kills the competition. 🙂
@truckroller13 жыл бұрын
But isn't that what you would expect from a russian brand, copy a good idea😁 I think that just adds to the charm of the Amphibias😅

the question I have is what is the connection between being a "super compressor" and having internal bezel. As far as I can see, you find these two always together
@Gary-Seven-and-Isis-in-19683 жыл бұрын
Before arriving here to vent my spleen at your absolute Hubris and Snobbery in not mentioning the Vostok Amphibia. I was not expecting to find that you already covered your mistake, if in fact it was a mistake. You talk about Patents, did any of these companies consider Patents when they Ripped Off Vostok's idea? Commies have no such need for Patents, that made them easy prey. Is this your line of thought? The deeper it goes the more it seals. That is a compressor, that is what Vostok invented. Don't use the excuse of Patent legality to cover your Racist and Classist Ideology. You can be as Elitist as you want, fawning over high end brand names, but you cannot rewrite History.

@ryejack3 жыл бұрын
@@tomwillshaw2808 I forget which youtube channel went into the science of this, but one reason companies stopped making super compressors about half a century ago was because modern diver technology replaced and improved upon it. The "super" part is deceiving. If you buy a super compressor watch these days, it's not because they are better rated than modern divers, rather, you buy them because you appreciate the history and uniqueness of this older technology.

Great video - such a misunderstood term and misused by modern brands and dealers. For vintage watches, there was a period in the late 60s/early 70s where there was an abundance of super compressor dive watches. In addition to the watches you mention, some more brands/references from my collection: Baylor Neptune SuperCompressor (1968), Musette Resist Super Compressor (1972), Precimax Aquamax Safety Super Compressor (1969), Tissot DL Super Compressor (1972) and, of course, as several people mentioned the modern day Christopher Ward C65 Super Compressor which uses the original technology.

Nope, don't have any in my collection yet. One day, would like to add a legit one to my collection. For now, I'll have to be satisfied with my 500m & 1,000m pieces with helium escape valves. I know they're totally different but, I'm referring more to the depth rating. Haven't done any real "in depth" research but, as far as I know, the Rolex DEEPSEA SEA-DWELLER has deepest rating at 3,900m/12,800ft. With that said, who on Earth needs more than that? Super-Compressors that actually reflect depth ratings come nowhere in the ballpark. No, I'm not a Rolex fanboy. However, for me, that's the only model they make that's relevant in size & spec's. My personal choice would be the Seiko MARINEMASTER Professional SBEX003 1000m which doesn't have either feature - super-compressor or helium escape valve. Super-compressors look cool but; in the end, for a real world professional or military deep diver - what would make a super-compressor more efficient/reliable than watches with helium escape valves? Note: I have no real preference as I'm just a desk diver. Visually, both are very appealing. I'm just curious as to which is superior in the real world. Scenario: I'm a professional deep diver with a $5,000 budget. Do I get the super-compressor that doesn't have a stated depth rating or do I get the helium escape valve that's rated at a deeper depth than I'm qualified for? For 99% of the world population, these stat's & spec's are completely irrelevant. It basically comes down to what is important to you visually.
