GW 5000U-1JF is my favorite Casio. Tough Solar, Atomic Time Keeping, waterproof. Never needs a battery replacement…always has the correct time to the second (provided you place it in a window overnight so that is will receive the time signal from Ft. Collins CO.) Rugged….steel body under the rubber….steel screw-in case back. I have a small collection of watches and the GW 5000U is my daily wear.

I love my squares .. I alternate between my GW-5000U and GWM-5610 depending on what I am doing that day. I forgot to change watches before doing some yard work and now my 5000 has a premium band that has a some scuff marks. I am pedantic and should not be as they are Gs but one can always look after something regardless. I did recently acquired the Charles Darwin Foundation partnership Galápagos models. Will probably never wear them but I had to have em, love the foundation, the work and sentiment. Don't hurt that the watches look great too.

Stay strong - great video! After buying a few expensive watches before other priorities took over (family & sanity), I'm firmly in the Casio/Seiko/Citizen space and have a special spot for G-Shocks, especially my GW-5000 which is the closest I could get to the OG 10 years ago, so the DW-5000R will be on my shopping list. My Jaeger and Doppel are rarely worn anymore. A battle scar story I have is that I'm a lefty, and always wore my watches on the right until my wife's engagement ring caught my Master Compressor Geographic when walking together, and put a tiny chip on the sapphire. That was 20 years ago and I've worn on my left since then. And we're still married :-)

I’m sorry to hear about your health problems. At the beginning of the video when you say “I hope you are happy” I felt that something was bothering you because of the way you said it. I hope you make full recovery. For me, G-Shocks are the watches that first got my attention when I was a kid. I”m Brazilian and they were not easy to find here in the eighties. Now I have a bunch of them and if I had to choose just one watch from my collection to keep it would surely be a G-Shock (GW9400 probably).

The most important watch in my collection is my 5610. I wore through my apprenticeship and was my daily for about 6 years. But what makes it special, is that I wore it both times when my daughters were born. It was the most accurate and die hard piece at the time hence the choice.

As a pretty serious watch guy I do have to be honest with myself in that most of my watches don't serve any practical purpose. The phone in my pocket tells the time much more accurately and goes with me everywhere. The exception to that is my G-Shock(s). I still do a lot of work in a traditional photographic darkroom and the G-shock is an important tool in that environment. I use it to time my print washing and my development times with film. I'm working with a lot of wet chemicals that splash and spill. Plus, I need to be able to see the watch without using a light that is so bright it will ruin my materials that require darkness. At the end of a long working session I can take off my watch and run it under a faucet to clean all the chemicals off of it no problem!!

I'm Looking to add a GBD 200-UU if possible... But it's the straight GBD 200 that is usually has the best sales. Only thing that would make it better is if it was solar... Why don't they go MIP for all their negative displays? Wasn't really a G-Shock guy until the 5610... then I became interested. When they came out with the MIP it went to the top of my list. I do Love Casio, My Duro been my daily for almost 4 yrs. I'm VERY hard on watches, have NO scratches on the crystal. And I tend to bang mine almost daily on metal monos and shelving. A few scratches and a little ding on the aluminum insert, with minimal scratching on the case(hardly noticeable). I've spent more on straps then on the watch and Love it... G-Shocks are my solution for my clumsiness. - GSG-100 for all day at home and for special occasions. Faster reading, solar, and large numbers in the background. I'm looking for one with a metal case and these features, but I haven't found a G-Shock like this. - DW H6000 replaced GBD-200 and GBD-H1000 (I'm selling both) for walking, treadmill and easier reading on digital. - G5600UE for going out on the street with something less flashy and expensive, since here in Brazil in São Paulo we don't always have 100% security.

I couldn't live without my GAX-100B. It has a high/low tide sub dial with multiple timezones stop watch and all the alarms etc. that we've come to expect from a G-Shock. I am very tough on my watches and now I have a G-Shock for the daily activities because I was beating up my Seamaster 300 so much. I do actually use it to dive/snorkel with in the summer but don't wear it close to as much as the G-Shock. I understand the disability part too. I was also in a similar situation a few years back. You do notice that you will gravitate towards more easy to use and indestructible tools but that you already know. Happy Holidays Jory and all the watch people!!

To me, a Gshock is just a go anywhere, do anything watch that I don't need to worry about or baby. My current fav is my GBX-100. I live the classic square shape, the metal bezel, the fitness tracker functions, the sunrise/sunset and the MIP display. Really, the only thing that stops it from being the perfect watch is the lack of tough solar. They do make a similar version with tough solar but it costs like double what the GBX does. I like the bluetooth/tough solar Casioaks but I'm a square guy. For me the way the squares just disappear on the wrist is perfect.

Back in the 80s I found the first g shock on an activity bus during a school field trip. Somebody had put a cool black leather band on it that was wider than the watch, it had some awesome chrome spikes. I took it to the office and the principal told me to keep it. I don’t know what happened to that watch but I bought a g-shock that looks just like it recently (even has the little brick wall,) this one also has solar and the atomic radio. I just need to make a leather band like my old one.

Firstly, I can relate to your health problems. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's at the beginning of this year and it has progressed quite rapidly to the point where I fall a great deal. Like you I am a vintage lover but I'm scared to wear them nowadays! So I have gone back to my roots of watch loving, Casio and Timex. Great watches, are tough, good looking and varied and very good prices. Now, why Casio? The are almost bullet proof, even the non G-Shock models so that from the wide range of models you can have dress, smart watch and of course, our beloved G--Shock and never worry about wearing them or replacing them and they are so affordable on the whole! I hope you keep up with that positive attitude to your health situation, I think that is the best way to deal with something that is largely out of our control. On the 7th of next month I will be in Hospital for another 6 week stay. One of my things of choice then is to peruse the net for my next Casio Purchase which is the Casiotron TRN-50SS-2A ! 😁😁

This was an awesome video; very inspirational. Casios, especially G-Shocks, mean a lot to me for similar reasons who they mean a lot to you. The durability and reliability are big factors in my line of work, plus i think they take most of the pretentious snobbery vibes out of collecting timepieces. True "G"s are basically a breed unto ourselves; while i do own other watches, i'm really not a watch-guy....i'm a Casio guy, and i like G-Shocks the most. Tough to say which is my favourite, as I tend to be fickle about such things, but a grail watch for me for awhile now that i haven't purchased yet is the G-Shock "Walter," DW5900....

Sorry to hear about your health concerns. I discovered that attitude is a very important factor in recovery/adaptation and you seem to display the right kind of attitude. I hope you get better soon. Regarding watches, mechanical dress-watches were created in an era where gentlemen were wearing elegant suits and shirts with long sleeves. Quartz G-shock tool-watches were developped when joggers in sneakers, nylon shorts, T-shirts and some kind of bandana would run with walkmans on the hip. I have the opinion that both kind of watches make perfect sense on the correct attire and with the right use case. Regardless of style preferences and opinions, maybe using long sleeves would protect your dress watches against bumps.

Gshock 8300? From the Sharper Image. Late 80's? My favorite g-shock of all time. It was huge. It had metal bezel surrounded by the hard rubber. Although at the end, the rubber became brittle and fell apart. The watch was mostly black. The rubber strap was soft rubber. My first watch with EL lighting. It was 200m water resistant. It had the screw down caseback. The spinning G was fun to use for heads or tails. Unless the G got LOST! I really really miss that watch. I abused that watch too.

G-shock means a lot to me. It was a bad*** tool watch my uncle wore, it's my fiancee's favorite brand (she has several Gs that she wears all the time) and I love them, too. Lately, I've been wearing them a lot more. I wore my 5600 most of the time I was a caregiver to my aunt who lost her cancer battle in July. It was much better to wear a g-shock for that kind of thing than a Seiko turtle. Now, as I continue to renovate my aunts home, I have continued wearing the gshock. It's a trusty companion ready for anything. I also keep birds and a gshock getting bird s*** on it is a lot less upsetting than other watches. My current love affair with gshock is even growing, as I am awaiting a new gw-6900 to arrive today. As much as I love all of my Seikos, any gshock can be the last watch you'll ever need. Happy Chanukah.

My generation, 70’s and 80’s was in watches that we could afford back then. Casio, Seiko, Timex and Citizen. Especially G-Shocks because what is better for a young boy/man than to have a cool, rugged, indestructible watch? So G-Shock is an style, icon, a movement of our age.

Well, G-Shock means I found an interest in watches alltogether. It means I found this channel, yada yada yada, I now own +50 G-shocks. (don't start watch collecting guys, seriously) HOWEVER. Sure it's a homage to the origin, but seriously? I mean the GW-M5610 that's already out there is by FAR a better G-Shock than this. And alot cheaper. I get it, business is business, but that's the opinion we need here. No tough solar? No MB6? "Only" a color difference from the $50 dw-5600? "Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza." Anyway, my favourite G-Shock right now is the GW-6900 series.

I have a decent collection of watches from microbrands to swiss watches..... I wear me G-Shock square 95% of the time. People who know, know that G-Shocks are the ultimate everyday watch.

Very best wishes - when a watch becomes a part of your everyday essential wear, it becomes a part of you. In my case, my GShock is my gym watch, it’s light, metal Baby-G, black strap with copper (ahem, rose gold) face, metal body. It’s a statement to say the Apple Watch is ok, but this is better looking by miles, and just £100. Happy Season’s Greetings and 2025!

I have some autos but if I could only take one watch and one only, I would take my Gw5610. Have always had a Gshock, wear one 99% of the time, will always wear a Gshock.
