I am a qualified early childhood nurse/educator. You definitely are feeding Jackson at the right time! His development is forward for his age. He shows understanding and object permanence, meaning he makes the connections between his actions and what can come from them. For example, he clearly leans into the spoon, anticipating the cereal. Or even when he hits the toy on his play-set, understanding that the toy will pop up. You guys are doing a great job, congratulations!

Hi, cook here: Ya'll need some better cookware, those pans you have definitely aren't non-stick! It will be so much easier I promise. A good 12" cast iron skillet is great, but don't forget to season! After every use, clean (don't scrub with steel wool) with sponge or brush. Soap is ok after seasoning. Put back on stove to dry completely, drizzle in some neutral oil, and wipe with paper towel over every surface. Lodge cast iron is inexpensive and durable. Videos on youtube about how to season the first time. A tri-ply stainless steel pan (All-Clad or Tramontina, for instance) is also essential, but for things you want to sear and develop a fond, like meat and proteins. Then you can braise or make a pan sauce to get all the good bit up from bottom. Don't try to scramble eggs in one. Lastly, a good teflon non-stick skillet is indispensable. They are completely safe as long as you don't let it get to extremely high temperatures without fat in the pan. Don't use under a broiler. Eggs in a real non-stick are so much easier. Look at Oxo or T-Fal. As long as you don't see the coating flaking off, you're totally fine. Look at reviews on sites like Americas Test Kitchen, seriouseats.com, and Wirecutter. Wish I could help more! You're doing great with all these meals, Jen,

Jenn and I were pregnant at the same time. I was on bedrest most of my pregnancy and watching her go out to the parks and having fun really made me feel better. It was like I was living vicariously through her lol. Our baby was due 2 weeks after Jackson but because of complications was born 10 days earlier then him. Now I'm loving watching Jackson grow because I'm seeing him do stuff my daughter is doing. It feels like we are experiencing the same joys and frustrations around the same time. I'm loving seeing all the home vlogs because it helps me escape mentally from all the scary stuff going on and just focus on my daughter and her happiness. There will be days when he will let you know what he wants and than there will be days when you will not have a clue what is going on. Just have loads of fun with your little boy. I see it as a blessing that he is at such a young age and what is going on with the world he has no clue. Friends and relatives tell me that their older children are afraid and they are having a difficult time explaining everything. I mean how far do you go? You have to show them a healthy respect and not go into crowds without taking precautions, but at the same time not to be paranoid, Happy Belated Easter to you and I am so hungry for pepperoni pizza. It Straps on like a fanny pack then there is a hard foam seat where a Fanny pack pouch would be, he can face you or away from you and the weight of him is on the seat, all you have to do is wrap an arm around him to hold on to him. The key thing to remember with those non-stick pans is don’t ever put them on high heat. Only low or medium heat is allowed. The good news is eggs cook great on low to medium heat! I use my coated non-stick pan exclusively for cooking eggs & I use my stainless steel All Clad skillet for cooking things on a higher heat. Also don’t put your coated non-stick pans in the dishwasher. Hand wash only!

Lodge cast iron are great. It’s easy to season with veggie oil and on the grill instead of stinking up your house. Also never clean them with soap!! To clean boil water in it and get a chain mail thingy to run along the skillet to scrape anything out. My dad always then dries it out on the stove top on low, and reoils it with like a tablespoon of oil and wipe it out with a paper towel. Also, calphalon has awesome non stick skillets

Cast Iron: Brand doesn't matter much - but "Lodge" is very popular and comes pre seasoned. BUT I totally recommend taking your pan out to the garage and taking a grinder to it. Tim - you should be more then capable of this with your construction background. Grind/Sand the metal as smooth as possible, then re-season the now bare metal. It will smell burnt during the re-seasoning process, but it is very easy to do and the smell goes away. When a new pan comes, the medal surface will be pitted from the casting process. Since the medal is poured into a sand cast. Hence, cast iron. When cooking, food will stick in these pores. That is the purpose of "seasoning" a pan. You fill all of these pits/pores with the oil, creating a smooth surface. Cook with metal utensils and NEVER wash it with soap! (this will wash away your seasoning) Simply scrub out the pan with warm water and keep it dry. I LOVE my cast iron and cook everything other then pasta in my cast. Don't worry about making mistakes with your cast iron. You can almost always fix it and there is definitely a learning curve. But so much fun to learn and experiment with. Plus, I think the food tastes so much better! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Happy Belated Easter! My wife and I use Lodge cast iron skillets; one big one for the majority of cooking and a smaller lighter one for when we go camping. Best way to clean them after use is to put some water in them, put on stove to get all the gunk off the bottom (use a spatula if necessary) and then get rid of water and take a paper towel and some Crisco shortening to wipe skillet down/season it and good to go for the next time. Just a precaution when it is cooking, do not touch handle! It gets very hot and use an oven glove. As for the green non stick pans, we have one that we got from my grandma and it worked well the first year or so, but after many uses, food started sticking and one needs to add extra butter or oil so it won't happen. My wife's parents got us the Copper Chef big frying pan, oven roaster and cant remember the name of this but it is basically a copper wire air fry pan with handles and a little pan to collect stuff while cooking. We use this the most to make tator tots. You can find the Lodge and Copper Chef on Amazon.

It's not to early for Jackson to be eating cereal, my doctor also recommended that I give my son cereal at 3 months. Some babies need more than milk to stay satisfied and be able to sleep better. I would suggest that you keep track of what cereal he is eating and watch to see if he has stomach troubles, some may give him gas or constipation. So you know to avoid any that give him any problems. That really goes for any new food introduced. I think you both are great parents, Jackson looks very happy and healthy. Love watching your videos.

I make personal pizzas for me. A slice of white bread, toast it in a toaster, after that top it with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, and nuke it in the microwave for 30-40 seconds to melt the cheese. Done. The toasted bread stabilizes it a bit while you nuke it. But that's just me though. I grew up with very tight budgets or little money. I guess I'm just used to using what I have around the house to make something.

You can buy pre-seasoned cast iron. As for nonstick, don’t use any spray like Pam on them. It bonds with the nonstick coating and makes it not nonstick anymore. Just use a bit of butter or oil before cooking.

Our son does the leg slamming thing too! LOL He now does it while I change his diaper... When he's excited... When he's overly tired... First time parent over here too. Such a fun and interesting journey!
