I wasnt able to go fully in depth on my idea live so I'll say it here. Imagine if Gabara would return as evil entity like a demon, that attacked humans and monsters in their dreams like a kaiju Fresdy Krueger. But got sealed away by Mothra or some guardian Kaiju. Though he gets released because humans do dumb stuff, now he chooses Godzilla and the citizens of Japan as his next targets.

Gabara was included in the 2023 MMS pole, so there is a chance, however, the voters are known to have bad opinions (they voted for Rose Biollante instead of Desghidorah), so there isn't a 100% chance he's a winner or runner up.

From what I remember of interviews with production stuff, the thing about Salunga is that he and other original kaiju in the show were meant to be their respective resemblances. Salunga was supposed to be Gabara and probably more closely be him, but because of the prices that Toho charges for when it comes to using the more obscure kaiju, it couldn't legally be done. So they made a new monster based on Gabara with the electrical powers plus some Baragon inspiration to make it more sure fire distinct

Bullmark made a Gabara in 1969. Marmit put one out in 1999 for the Vinyl Paradise line. A Godzilla Store Exclusive Gabara was just announced and is coming sometime next year.

Actually, Tomonori Yazaki played "Ichiro". Gavara was played by a suit actor whose first name was "Yasuhiko" but whose last name is difficult to read and can be rendered three different ways.

I would LOVE a SHMA or even if Hiya got ahold of him for a figure. I had this miniscule, extremely tiny Gabara thing for much of my life. I had it from when I was young all the way into my teens. We moved several houses, I always lost track of it in my toy bin but it somehow always made it with us through all our old houses until one day, I finally and sadly lost it and never found it again.

I think Gabara looks odd because he's got a butt and no tail. Of course up until now, I had no idea he was based on a toad. I saw the 'Go! Godman' episode (not a Toho highlight reel, as you mentioned), but I never connected the toad with the monster. The version I was able to watch wasn't translated though, so maybe that's why I missed it. I also saw the 'Greenman' episode, which wasn't any better. I thinnk they filmed every kaiju battle for both shows in the same gravel pit on the Toho back lot, and the fight choreography was Zero-FG.

Thanks for the video I would like to see gambera along with megalon and king ceaser get a proper movie treatment. When talking about godzilla's revenge it honestly could have been decent if the subtle commentary on Japan's state had been explored more and understanding kid friendly can be more than just acting goofy. Plus the dub did not help it at all.

I don’t think it’s fair to Gabera that Manilla being shit means he himself can’t come back. I think if they gave him a more realistic and less goofy role he’d be popular. Imagine a monster that invades the dreams of a human and when they pass out he becomes real and terrorizes wherever.
