For the 2020 model, I would have easily taken an MPG hit if they completely eliminated the rev hang, rather than simply revising the gearing a little. Acceleration in manual cars with rev hang is a pain in daily driving, with tuning being your only option. Great review. I bought a 2020 Si a few months ago and am very happy with it. It's my daily driver, and I wanted a stick car that was both fun and practical. This checks all the boxes. I did look at the Kia Forte GT and the Jetta GLI, but when Honda added adaptive cruise to the 2020 model, that clinched it for me. It's good to have for the boring highway trips. The mileage has been a pleasant surprise, averaging 33 mpg with a lot of suburban driving (i.e. traffic lights). I do think the pumped in sound is only in Sport mode, which I don't use all that much. Also, the civicx community is a great resource if you interested in tweaking the car or adding a tune.

My wife had a black 2018 that we absolutely adored! Someone smacked her head on while she was waiting to turn left at an intersection, totaling the car before its first oil change. We were so sad! The bright side however, is we were able to find a new 2019 Type R to replace it. I’ll yell you though, that little sedan was impressive! It’s remarkable how good it was given how inexpensive it is. Wonderful cars! We recommend them to everyone who solicits our opinion on a sporty new car. I also found the rev hang disconcerting and was slightly disappointed that Honda allowed it to be in the production car.

JAA my wife and two youngest boys were in the car at the time, air bags did their job👍. My wife had a sore wrist and some friction burns on her arm from the airbags and my youngest son (11at the time) was shaken up pretty badly but everyone was fine.
@robertrishel36854 жыл бұрын
JAA yes it is! It all worked out very well, she is driving her Type R now and VERY happy with it👍 as am I whenever I manage to pry it away from her😂
@t.k.morris4 жыл бұрын
So do you use the type R as a family sedan?
@robertrishel36854 жыл бұрын
T.K. Morris yep. My wife is a high school teacher, she uses it as her daily driver. We also have gone on the occasional road trip. She loves the car, absolutely adores it. She suffered through the mini-van/SUV years when our kids were younger. When it came time to replace her Honda Pilot she wanted something fun, she really wanted a Type R, but they were hard to find and at a premium over MSRP when we first started looking. Her short list was a Golf R, GTI, and the Type R. I got her to look at an Audi RS3 but she wasn’t convinced it was worth the $65k vs other options. When she test drove the Si, she loved it, particularly how cheap it was👍. So we bought it and loved it, but when it was totaled by the insurance company, We found a new Type R at a dealer not too far away. The car is really very amazing, it really is. The only changes we have made are 18” Enkei wheels and PS4’s and a Delrin shift knob (the OEM knob gets super hot in the sun!).

I had a 2017 and the rev hang is annoying at first but as you live with it you learn to shift/drive it so its not as bad. Regardless, I was always wanting for more power. I traded for a 2019 Accord 2.0T manual and honestly it is one of the best Honda's I have owned next to a new S2000 and CRX Si I owned back in the day.

For a car that doesn’t have a loud engine or exhaust, it makes sense to have a little sound put in to give you a better sense of awareness. Helps when you’re driving ‘sporty’ lol
@Ryeric14 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, but it sounds awfully artificial. I think a quiet natural engine would sound better than fake engine noise.

My wife and I have an 18 SI. We love the car. Two big dislikes though. The lack of analog control for HVAC and the lack of a spare tire. We live in Michigan and this year, for the first time in my life a pothole ate a tire. Take a guess as to what fix a flat and and a compressor were able to do? Absolutely nothing. A tire is on order. We will have to replace the rest of them soon so as to not upset wear but it would have been nice, to not be stranded.
@t.k.morris4 жыл бұрын
It is hard to understand this from Honda. I know the Sport Touring hatchback has a spare and it has a center exhaust. I actually think the S/T exhaust looks better but why would they not give the spare tire to us on a SI and make the exhaust fit as needed? I am on the fence about which one I may want to buy. I want a manual no matter what else!

Couple odd electronics things that Honda should have allowed to be disabled in the software (fake engine sounds, rev limiter beeps), but glad Honda's doing its part keeping the old school goodies alive. Like a 6MT and the LSD. Very few cars still offer those in a neatly wrapped package and still make it a good daily car.

man the rev hang is absurd on these. however with my 18 coupe i just disabled it via ktuner and it's a lot more livable. before it had me thinking i was the shittiest manual driver there was. what also doesn't help this car is the light clutch and heavy dual mass flywheel. flywheel adds a bit of hang as well

I love your videos man but saying you didn't like how the suspension stiffened in sport mode seemed so unappreciative. You can turn it on when you want to turn up the wick.
