Omar has stated many times how much respect he has for Deantoni as an artist in general vs just a drummer. I was reading notes in a vinyl collection of his where he said Deantoni was one of his favorite drummers of all time and certainly a favorite to work with. I’m sure their friendship will last their lifespan honestly. He never talks about any of the other drummers he played with like he does Deantoni.

Lol, Omar and his pedals. It’s intense. I always wonder how many pedals he owns in total. It must be near 1,000 or more by this point in life. Definitely jealous that you got to see this though! I met my wife at one of the first Bosnian Rainbows shows back in 2012 in Atlanta where Deantoni is from. I made a sign for Teri Gender Bender that said “KISS ME TERI!” she didn’t just kiss me, she basically mouth raped me! Hahaha then the next song she took her shoes off and put her socks in her mouth xD I was glad that she did that after the kiss.

Deantoni is a phenomenal drummer. I dig Omar's more ambient style of improvising, but maybe they needed more rehearsal time together to make his playing over these songs less free-form, & more like the spectacular jams they could be. Nonetheless, I love these dudes. I love what Omar contributes to everything he's a part of, & there's some great moments here. Slow to start, but well worth listening through.

Funny, because I think the exact opposite of you. IMO Omar is trying too hard/ thinking too much and this jam really exposed his weaknesses as a guitarist, and would benefit from a more structured style

@LaceChaser Жыл бұрын
I know you asked 2 years ago, but it’s a loop. I’m assuming Omar has a pitch pedal and lowered it for a moment to make a bass loop orrr Deantoni had it saved already on his laptop. He does most of the sound manipulation here. Omar is just there to backup his drummers new thing. Well, it was new at the time.

I’ve see. Him randomly on bass with Le Butcherettes, Book shows under his groups name and play new Mars Volta, etc. Really, you just gotta follow anyone connected to his label/anyone he’s played music with in the past and if they come to your state... buy a ticket because there’s a chance he could randomly chow up with them or be a temporary replacement for a band member. Otherwise it’s seriously almost impossible to know when this soft spoken genius who bursts out of his shell when he hears latin style drums and his guitar is suddenly flying around him as he dances and claps will be making an appearance. Never in my life have I seen a tour date list of his besides back when The Mars Volta was around or when ATDI got back together and played festivals.

I thought this was cool overall, but just a little disappointing, maybe I expected too much but this video really brought out Omar's weaknesses, he is a great songwriter but this made me think of a few things, these guys are very similar musicians, almost too similar, it's missing a lot of layers and effects and other musicians with different styles to help round things out. He used to be amazing live, maybe he needs a break to relax his mind and take a step back for a minute I almost would've preferred just to hear Deantoni by himself

Ian Brooken I mean technical difficulties doesn’t break your ability to play. Guess it highlights Omar relies too much on his pedals. I love Omar. He’s one of my heroes as well. But I completely agree that he seems disinterested with guitar. And I don’t blame him. The man has created and released so much music. He’s probably tired of it. It was hard to listen to- needless I hope this show comes to my town so I can check it out. Maybe his pedals will be working then.
@dnlabd45535 жыл бұрын
damn, omar really sucks on this one...deantoni saves it, at times. i like omar a lot, specially what he did with mars volta and at the drive in, but i think he's way overrated as a musician and composer. putting out 100 records doesn't make you good...most of them are boring as hell, just like his guitar jamming. and well, it's easy to not sound terrible if you surround yourself with great musicians like deantoni. just saying, everyone nut-rides omar. i pretty sure my next door neighbor would have done a better job at this....and he sort of sucks.
@dnlabd45535 жыл бұрын
@Ian Brooken didnt mean to hate on him bro, just saying what i feel: he did a terrible job of "backing him up" in my opinion...no taste, passion, flow...he basically made it worse. and i was REALLY looking forward to watching this :( . deantoni was tasteful in spite of omar's uninspired performance and all those sour notes he threw in. yes, hes prolific, no doubt...but to me, his solo music is boring as hell and very one dimensional. i like him better when he's the "effects guy" in bands. i think he's overrated cuz everyone talks about him like he's some tremendously gifted genius....and well, to me he's just a really productive dude that's just sort of ok as a musician. And, regardless of taste, you can see that deantoni is waaaaay on another level than omar, on musicianship in general. now, if u like omars monotonous, guitar delay jamming...good for you i guess. i can only take about 2 minutes of it.

omar stopped playing guitar years back he only does passive stuff now not leads. this was primarily a technoself show omar was just a guest. hes playing off the top of his head for an hour with no other reference to build on notes (drums not notes), not to mention his pedal board died for most of this set so he was just playing clean through the amp. yea idk man lets see you improv for an hour like that . most of the live jams with volta are heavily rehearsed so he knows where to go, this was just raw
