Decluttering never ends. I just let two grown grandchildren go through my bird collection. One mentioned the birds decorating my house were something he always remembered. I had packed all in a box about a year ago. I brought them out from a storage shelf and they both took all they wanted. I'm happy to have learned they wanted them, and now have them.😊

My MIL kept one small closet of toys over the years. The kids knew they could pull out anything to play with but it went back in the closet when we went home. The items that were played with the most at Nanny's house were a stack of plastic cups she kept from our wedding rehearsal dinner. For some reason the kids spent years stacking and re-stacking them lol.

Thanks for the monthly declutter video! Love watching you and your mother collaborating! I'm your mother's age and have been decluttered a lot of stuff, but hearing her comments and challenges is very helpful and keeps me going! The layers of items that were important and now aren't and then the new stuff that aren't useful and helpful - well, as I watch you two, it encourages me to keep tossing, donating, or giving stuff away.

I love what was said about the newspaper being kept for the mom and not the child. My parents have given me a few baby clothes that I had, but they are not really something I could use for my kids and I dont have any sentimental attachment like they do. I think its great to keep baby items and childhood art, as along as you realize that anything that comes before a certain age is for you and your memories and not for theirs.
@pnwflipper20892 ай бұрын
Yes!! My mom kept boxes and boxes of my preschool age drawings and clothes and things and one day when I was 34 or 35 her basement flooded and she dropped off 7 or 8 boxes of things that were wet. She told me to go through them and keep what I wanted and get rid of the rest. I had to act fast so they wouldn’t mold. When I opened the boxes I realized that I didn’t remember any of it. I enjoyed going through it all anyway, but I didn’t feel attached to any of it. After the first pass through I winnowed it down to 1 box, but a couple months later I threw the rest of it away. My mom seemed disappointed that I didn’t keep more but I told her I enjoyed it but I didn’t need to keep it.

My parents had a kids’ squeaky toy that we kids’ played with. They babysat my niece when she was a baby. My nieces was terrified of it. They used it as a pseudo baby gate. They put it under an end table where there were a lot of cords. She wouldn’t go near it. So it kept her from pulling a lamp down, etc.

Just have to say something about the red, white, and blue tank top. You definitely could have returned that. I keep ALL tags from any clothing I buy, and receipts. If something fit when I bought it, but didn't fit after washing properly, I always return it and tell them the item is defective and explain. Every single time, and every store, takes it back. No more wasting my money. Plus, how are companies supposed to do better if everyone just accepts bad products?! It's the consumers responsibility to give feedback when a product doesn't work. Ok, that's all I have to say, LOL. LOVE you and your mom together :)

I love that you’re actually DECLUTTER the stuff of the kids. My kids’ grandparents (both sides) just dumped the whole baby stuff at our house recently and let US deal with it - after the kids saw the stuff. Now we have a „cow makes…“ sound book again - for my 4.5yo 😂 But at least we stuck to the deal that they had to declutter something else for the grandparents stuff they wanted to keep. I just took photos from my grandma… There are persons I almost never met, but my father told me stories about my great aunt, my grandma’s youth… that made them valuable. There are memory pieces I miss from my childhood. My family started new when I was about almost 7yo. Very few things are saved from before. I know my mother had her mother pass and ultrasound pictures. We used to look at them together when I was very little - lost. My first dolls. Lost. Plushies - my husband gifted my oldest plushies to me. Just to remind everyone struggling that it’s OK to keep a box of memories and display and cherish them.
