Johnette = Great!

Music / lyrics speak volumes with feelings and the mind. I returned from my 1st deployment in Iraq. Driving back to my house, this was the 4th song that came up on my playlist list. Loved it back in the day and a fan of Johnette, from the early days. For some reason this night, this song hit me with a completely different view and feeling than before. Other than just a great song with intense bass line and lyrics, it took on a new association. I listen to it when I am feeling skewed. You never think of previous situations can mean so much later. As dark and remorseful as this song is, it brings me back from my dark memories. This goes out to my brothers and sisters who have experienced battle and deal with memories.

Great post! I felt like I was right there with you. Love driving with Jonette blasting (usually followed by TV on the Radio's "Wolf in Me") Hmm, maybe released same year? But her songs do push one to reflect, as she has shown throughout her lyrics.

Yes! I love her dark, growling verbiage. I 'believe' her when she sings. Damage reminds me of similar songs like "Jenny I read", or "Souvenir". Her voice gives me life. Too bad David Byrnes kiboshed "The Heads" attempts. I think they could have exploded

She was probably 38 here, and when I look back at her now, I realized how much life/ love/ trauma she had already experienced by this still youngish age. I believe Marc Moreland had passed, as well as her 'adopted' brother, Joe. So much heartache, strength, and resolve in that voice.

I've always noted that her live performances are outstanding and almost impossible to capture fully on disc. But boy, talk about perfection (in my view)

I love this girl, I loved her songs in the movie "the hidden" in the 80s with Concrete Blonde.

Never heard of that, and I thought I had all her output. Thanks, time to explore. (I once had a 2 hour interview with her, and she was so interesting and easy to talk to, I ran out of tape and didn't notice right away. I was so engrossed in what she was saying, I didn't even care)

Jonette is that artist whom I will go and see no matter my age. If she can tour, I can show up. So far I've been to 4 of her concerts, but wish she toured more.

And I hate this because it's been and gone and thank God for youtube so we won't forget these great performances. Just realizing how long ago this came out fills me with emotion because I still "feel" this song as I did when I first heard it.
