Surfed here about twenty years ago. A fun place to visit. It's crazy that you guys drove there, what a wild journey. I scored Silverbacks pretty heavy. Only thing that bummed me out was how they dumped all their sewage right into the water. I dove off our back deck and watched as turds came flying out a PVC pipe right next to me. Gross. But a fun trip all and all.

Lots of people doing a very similar trip in 2WD vehicles. 4x4 is not necessary, but the big difference for me is the ability to pull out onto the beach or the last 100 meters down a rocky trail to get to a nice campsite instead of having to camp next to the road.

I don't know of anyone doing fiberglass caps like this, but I know there is at least 1 company in southern california that does something kinda similar with the super thin aluminum siding. I'll get back to you with the company name if I can remember it :)

I know it's not ideal, but I was tired of rushing just to put something out and then wishing I had taken the time to do better editing.
