Best thing about living in a northern state, all water valves are below the frostline so all hydrants and water valves are dry. If one is hit it's just a riser, and no water spray.

I gotta say, I've seen some cool equipment before, but I'm amazed at this skid steer mulcher. I'm sure the mulcher is a attachment. I'm shocked at how fast it cuts and how it glides through everything. Again, I've seen some cool stuff, but this is amazing to me

It would have been respectful to tell him about the hydrant, but when your in a business like this it's your own due diligence. They hire people because they don't what they are doing. So relying on them solely would be a mistake. Sadly the cost of doing business.

So that lot was already stubbed in for residential service or there was a prior house on that lot. You didn’t hit “the main” with a mower- you hit the valve which maybe could still be shut off with a good pair of channel locks. Those valves are half a turn for on/off so they don’t take much.. the client could have warned you but if there was a house on that lot at one point it should have been a know target.

Technically this was a fire department main line. Idk why the utility company responded but that’s what they listed it as on the claim. This may be a simple like to turn off but it was not being turned off near the leak. Apparently it had to be turned off a couple blocks away.
@TheAcenightcreeper11 ай бұрын
So did they determine it was your fault?
@TheTreeShop11 ай бұрын
They are not charging us or filing a claim on our insurance. They said they put the repair under scheduled maintenance.

😂😂 I’ll crash my drone sober. No beer required. But I only fly it on projects with minimal canopy because otherwise it’s just looking down at the tops of trees. Would like to get one of those FPV drones and fly through the canopies fast 👌🏻

I have a couple of issues with this, technically the construction company that hired them to cut would be the ones to call in the locate and relay hazards to them. I wouldn't expect a subcontractor to be responsible for that specifically, especially given the construction company mentioned the fence. Second, around me, water valves on developed properties are flush or slightly buried, the only ones left aboveground are in undeveloped lots where the connection was just stubbed out. Third, utility locate companies are really hit and miss (mostly miss) recently. When I had work done at my house, the telecom locators arrived after the electricians had hand dug out a trench next to where the cable entered my house, and the power locator never showed up. Luckily I remembered the previous locates and knew that where the electricians were working was in the clear.

I take responsibility for our own digs. It is a Tree Shop SOP that when we dig we always order our own 811 just to be safe. But we never call a locate in on a mowing/mulching job.

Your on city property not the client. No contact will hold up if your off the property owner regardless who was at fault. Your fault man prepare to pay! Next time request a walk through with the city or village and document meeting with a signature.
@TheTreeShop11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the opinion but, 1. that is not city property. 2. the city paid the repair. Next time I will do the exact same thing I did here because a statistical anomaly is not an effective reason to promote change.
