Can you pleaaase help me? My turtle vomites two time in the past three days! He opens and closes his mouth in water and a lot of smashed food comes out of his mouth. This happens normally 30 mind 1hour after he took his food. Also he poops in short time after vomiting. He hasn't done this in his while life. He is 2 years old. I haven't had changed the kind of his food recently and I am sure they are not out of date. And normally when he has food more than normal he just poops. He has never vomited. Pleeeae help me. I watched so many of your videos before I got my first RES. I was wondering if you have any advice for me . I have proper lighting and a large enough floating basking area and I used to find him basking every day. Even at night when the lights off he would go up there. Recently I've only seen him go up about once in the last few weeks. Water temp is at 75 . I have a Penn plaxx cascade 1200. I've played with the height of the bulbs to try and make the platform warmer for him. Any advice?

Please tell me your secrets. Mine has the tubes foul up in under a month and the fine sponges need cleaning every 2 weeks. It's a eheim canister filter, a tad smaller
@karenartis447210 ай бұрын
Just did this last weekend! I always thought the canister filter had to be a lot lower than the tank? If I could use my Fluval 407 with the tank on a lower level, would be one heckuva space saver. We rescued two adult red eared sliders who were on their way to be dumped into a pond-the owner said they were too much work.😢 Thanks to your videos, these guys are living their best lives.
@TheTurtleGirl10 ай бұрын
it definitely has to be lower than the water line to be able to flow properly and also to get the filter to prime. I'd say my canister filter sits about 10-12"(?) below the water line, and the tank is also elevated maybe 4" off the ground. I also let the intake tube dip quite a bit before coming back up a bit to connect with the filter. But there are ways to make it work for sure! That's awesome that you rescued two sliders! I'm so happy to hear that.

Just got my daughter a Fluval 407 for her tank. It's very similar looking to the one you use here. As a note for people getting these make sure you put the rubber seal on correctly. I put it on wrong and when we primed the filter then plugged it in we had a nice large overflowing out of the canister. Once I figured out it was user error everything was up and running great.

@TheTurtleGirl10 ай бұрын
yeah that is a great way to get the tannins to leach out. I also realized after filming that the water is partially also yellow because of the color of my lights. They are very warm - so even with mostly clear water, it can come out on camera looking yellow depending on the white balance.

How often should I clean the water, I do need to aquire a net to get uneatin food out because she won't eat pellets or frozen turtle food cubes and so some of the insects and other food sources do die and end up either on yhe outside or inside my filter. I’m a new turtle owner and this is a first time having any aquatic pets. And I’m wondering if the basking area I have for my turtle is proper as is mostly just two rocks she can lift her head out to get air and what not. Originaly she had one of the basking areas with fake grass but when I notice she was trying to eat the glass I took it off. The tank otherwise is pretty barren with a little cave and some rocks. Plus two Pikachu plastic toys she likes to trow around. I don’t have a ton of money so all i got is a fairly simple filter and I let the turtle sunbath in the morning before college. I know lamps are necessary and I’m saving up for those. But imput and advise would be really helpful! Sorry to bother by the way

Before priming, do you fill the filter up with tap water and then put the top on and prime? Or do you leave it empty, open the nozzles and prime, assuming that the tank water will enter on its own and fill the canister to where it needs to be. Thanks!
@TheTurtleGirl10 ай бұрын
def not tap water, that would defeat the purpose of cleaning everything in tank water ;) So I leave it empty, and then when I open the nozzles and repeatedly pump the prime button, that forces the air out and water can enter. Only after it is filled do I plug it in though, that's the key to get it properly flowing without air bubbles.

Turtles are territorial, it may feel intimidated by the other turtle, that’s if you have them together. I had one, and then a neighbor gave me 3, I had them separated for a few weeks, then I started taking them out to a dry area or with little water, with space for them to walk and not feel that they were in each other's territory, you can do it in the floor, just be careful that they don't escape or get hurt. After they get used to it you can put them together.
