at least 4kids Baxter had a reason for ending up that way. While at DARPA... I dunno, make an animatronic clone? Had to be a better way then coming up with a way to create an automaton capable of preserving Brain surgery and sustaining a human brain and giving it total control over the body.

I have been waiting for this a long time and this is very interesting on where the creation of Baxter Stockman came from especially why he is white in 1987 series but never explained why turn him into a fly instead of a cyborg and especially that this Baxter Stockman is moustache twirling villain and no backstory part that could be the same for Darius Dunn in Fast Forward because they never give a background and motivation like why is his last name Dunn not Jones or O’Neill if he is supposed to be Cody’s uncle but at least they did for the IDW version of him all that.

At the time the 1987 show decided to make Baxter a fly (probably because they already had one Peter's designs for a fly mutant, for playmates), Baxter had only one appearance in the comics. So he wasn't a robot yet.

4:37 is supposed to be this version of the earth protection force, if they did went the Utroms in Secret of the Ooze would you think Leatherhead would be introduced and speaking to the 1987 version where he is a straight up villain? Wow you never thought Donatello would do such a think especially the same for Mikey.

I think Leatherhead could have been introduced in a future movie, but he was probably a character too many for the proposed Secret of the ooze that already had Triceratons, Baxter and the Rat King.

I am not sure what caused the decision, but it fits with the Caribbean theme of the animated movie. Since I haven't watched the movie yet, I cannot say if it was a good idea or not. Ultimately I don't care about the change because these live action remakes are, generally speaking, not as good as the animated ones. So they can do whatever they want in them. The animated version will still be there. Also the main appeal of these movies is generally in the music, and the new Ariel seems to have an amazing voice, so I could see myself listening to the soundtrack more often than watching the movie.
