Elvis did a great interview, he kept his integrity, sincerety, politeness and wonderful sense of hunor during the entire interview. His father Vernon was humble and honest. The manager "col." Tom Parker is also being himself, showing off and being the rude, crude, clumsy and over-the-top bossy clown he was so infamous of being. This is a valuable piece of history. Just love Elvis.
@ajp2812
@ajp2812 10 ай бұрын
I don't think Colonel Parker was rude and bossy here. He was just trying to keep order. At the beginning, he was trying to keep people from walking and standing in front of the people who were seated, and evidently in the middle of the interview someone was out of place again and he was asking him/her to move. Someone had to keep order. At the end of the interview he at least tried to implement a bit of humor when the allotted time was over and he had to cut it off. Maybe we do have reasons not like Colonel Parker, but not from this video.

He talks of going to Japan and Europe how wonderful that would have been, I think a tour like that would have energized him and really brought out the best of Elvis. Contrary to the movie, in real life Elvis never knew Colonel Parker's real name was Andreas van Kuijk, nor that he was in America illegally. That's why he could never leave the states to tour, but also that as seen here Elvis had no idea that there was a sinister reason why he could never tour outside of America. The facts about "The Colonel" didn't come out until Priscilla sued him in 1979.
@tacticalix
@tacticalix Жыл бұрын
That's the thing....he was ALREADY super energized (he even eluded to this in this press conference where he said he'd 'never retire because he had so much energy'....never heard THAT before from anyone!) and we got MORE than 'the best' out of him. I kind of like that he never went 'over there' and shared what is/was OURS! Though the world gets their 'piece'....Elvis was AMERICA'S!! I'm/We're SELFISH about our King! What if Elvis had toured oversees and something actually happened to him, as the Colonel feared? Elvis belongs to the world and history now....but was FIRMLY a product and representation of America, the country he loved and respected foremost. It's kind of fitting that he only performed....for US. Not performing overseas probably AMPLIFIED his gravitas....AS an American phenomenon and UNIVERSAL entity. Let the McCartneys and ABBAs, etc. tour Japan and wherever else.

Elvis wanted a change. He wanted to be challenged artistically. Look what happened with the 68 special.🥰 I believe, he would have reinvented himself with worldwide tours again and probably not spiralled into total drug abuse and misery. Same goes for the films. If he had been able to get better scripts that would have challenged him (again something Parker mishandled), things might have been different. (I think he was really good in his last two films despite the scripts being far from great!)

Hello from England Elvis summed it up in reply to one question by saying: "the image is one thing and a human being is another". How cathartic this answer was. He was just so "DIFFERENT" He was truly "A ONE OFF" HUMAN being He sang like "NOBODY" else He dressed like "NOBODY" else His STAGE PRESENCE was like "NOBODY" else with that WIGGLE. Through his very short life he reinvented himself and the start of the 70's when i was a kid things were so different again from the 60's. Even more outrageous and colourful with things like Bell Bottom trousers. and jumpsuits. How different the Press were as well back then and we are really talking about 50 years ago. There must be thousands of people still alive that were so lucky to have gone to his shows and just had that life changing experience. We can all look back at this interview with happiness and sadness at the same time. He just loved to entertain the fans and GAVE HIS BODY AND SOUL to the END, YES TO THE VERY END OF HIS LIFE. I think the music industry today is SO FICKLE. Big tour LIVE CONCERTS seem to be a thing of the past for the so called artists of the last 15-20 years

He seems so nice, so genuinely humble. It’s interesting how he addresses the female reporters with such endearments as “honey” and “dear” but the men are “sirs”. It’s his way being nice and, oddly enough, respectful, though that seems strange to people born and raised well after this era. No one seems to take offense but he’d be excoriated today. Overall he seems like a kind, simple country boy made good. I just wish he’d realized that he didn’t need the Colonel; the Colonel needed him. Elvis seems like he was decent to the core; too bad he wasn’t made of stronger stuff.

He was a Southern gentleman and those terms are what older men will use to address a woman in the South to this day. It is not as PC today than it was then but, placed in the historical context of this interview, it was fine. I love how you describe him, "a kind, simple country boy made good". Even he confirms it in a way when he talks about his overnight rise to fame. Being the first superstar of the television era and having to navigate that without any kind of blueprint or safeguard or even peers, geez...it is sobering to even consider. Man, he was just so polite and measured and respectful -can you think of anyone in the public eye who says "I beg your pardon" nowadays? And it is jarring to realize how clueless he was when it came to the "business" of Elvis Presley, always deferring to Col Parker for an answer/explanation. Knowing what we know now about their "business" relationship, it is infuriating to see it happen in such plain view. It pierces my heart to see what we lost when he died. There is a theory out there that what led to his death was way more complicated than simple drug abuse and/or heart failure btw. On case you are interested...Elvis Presley: Head Trauma, Autoimmunity, Pain, and Early Death (practicalpainmanagement.com)

what a disgraceful comment. like entertainers aren't just people with opinions, give me a break. It was a different time back then. Elvis was indeed political and was hounded, degraded, hated by the republican party...the way they treated him was outrageous, degrading to him because he employed and had 'negro' (using the nice word here) friends. They called him horrible terrible names. Elvis sought out Nixon b/c he wanted a drug narc badge (he was a drug addict and thought with that he'd be able to transport any all drugs where ever he wanted). How incredibly genuine to not use his platform for his political views. I have no respect for anyone in that type of business to give their opinions on what’s going on in the world as if we don’t know, and we rely on the people in the entertainment to fill us in. They are the last people I would want to hear from on their opinion with politics and to stay off their soapbox all they are are entertainers. They didn’t find a cure to cancer & a large majority of them probably voted for the idiot Biden, so does anybody care what any entertainer has to say. What gives them a better insight than we ALL already have? That’s one of the reasons Elvis is so respected because he knows that’s not his place to give his opinions. were watching the Academy Awards a few years ago, and Robert De Niro came out, and all he started talking about was politics, and it took us 10 seconds to turn the channel. We did not care to hear about his opinion.

Thank you for sharing with the world moments like this that show just how humble, kind and a pure heart. Watching interviews today, Elvis leans in his eyes looking directly at the person speaking. A majority of artists do not give interviews like Elvis, he wanted to see you, and give you an honest answer. My nanny she was as close to perfect and Elvis has so many of my nanny's. He most defiantly was one of a kind, and obviously an attractive man but his eyes show a soul that is kind. I can't imagine how he felt later on, knowing that he was hurting himself trying to numb his pain the love for God the internal struggle. At 600 pills the day he died, he had a circle of yes people. When you hear had I confronted him "which he needed" I would have been fired. A mans life is more important than being fired. You can get back up, you cannot when you pass. Knowing Lisa Marie was upstairs. People blame the addiction, but Elvis did not think they were drugs because of the Doctor, I think he realized that his best interests aren't being looked at when you look and see what you are given to take as meds. With Elvis having no issues to cause the reasons why he was on heavy meds, that is the problem and someone should have stepped in. You can see that Elvis wants to go places...Tom as he refers to himself was in complete control because Elvis being a kind humble and gracious man thought Tom put Elvis where he was. Tom stopped Elvis from being Elvis along with losing his wife and daughter full time he would have pulled himself together had he known he was going to Europe. Elvis had never left the country until he went to serve...isn't that odd for a musician especially Elvis whose voice speaks what words don't.

Which again was about normal, no the bad talk about the colonel making elvis work is all baloney, as for the colonel not having a passport, rubbish elvis would have got him one from Nixon that time he called in tha oval office to get his federal badge an gun licence, also the colonel was married to an American lady, also elvis kept putting it off (girls guns pills) couldn't be found in Europe, he wanted to go granted, however it's like giving up on the dope I'll clean myself up next week year ,then it just was to late, he should have went over in 1960 before he got dragged down!..

Actually I love all of them. He's also a careful speaker and attentive listener. What I do see is that later during the interview Elvis is getting tired, but he tries to hold it back. It is so difficult to stay attentive to all the questions being asked, whilst you actually need to get some sleep before rehearsal... and concert. What a georgeous man he was overall. For me he was the whole package. I cannot state that enough. I am delighted about the superb quality of sound and cinematography. Thank you.

He was so polite to each and every person giving them his full attention when they asked him questions. It's a pity Parker didn't have any manners. Elvis was a real southern gentleman.😍😍😍👑👑👑

Good to see the press conference in its entirety, thanks! Interesting to see his interaction and body language when his father answered a question at the end. I wonder whose idea it was to bring Vernon onto these press conferences I've seen? Maybe having family around made him feel less nervous in public situations.

Elvis as always handles himself so well infront of all the cameras and reporters. His daddy by his side, he just loved his family . Did anyone notice how his master sorry manager dictates everything from the side lines, I've always had the impression he put the fear of God into Elvis, he definitely pulled all the strings. The part where Parker tells people to come forward its like he's got Elvis displayed on show in the ring of a cattle market, horrid greedy man, he controlled Elvis,s life, and Elvis couldn't see it. Elvis is always so polite and charming, never disrespectful to anyone or anything, just wished he,d stood up to his master, even his very early girlfriends said they told him to him to , or he,d pay for it, and he sure did, Elvis should have been allowed to spread his artistic wings, he was caged and sanitised from a very young age, its no surprise he chose some of the paths he chose, Gladys saw the shark in Parker from day one, he tugged and tugged at Elvis till he took him under. Parker should have been got rid of after the movie noose, Elvis would have been happier and content both professionally and personally. This was 72 and the beginning of what was to be a very preventable sad decline, such a travesty. . Thanks for this historic upload. .

Yep, he took him to make freaking movies WTF. How on earth you took elvis who was at the point the face of music to make movies. If he'd never leave for 7 years to make movies can you imagine the songs/albums he would release? Elvis and the beatles would've been competing for the top spot in music back then lol.
