Elvis Presley - Bridge Over Troubled Water - 26 June 1977 - Final Time Performed Live

Elvis Presley sung Simon and Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' more than 200 times between 1970 and 1977 but none more poignant than that of his final live rendition of the song.
This poignancy comes from the fact that it was one of those performed at what was at the time merely a tour closing show but would ultimately become Elvis' final live appearance coming as it did six weeks before his death.
Having been caught forever more in celluloid, the 12 August 70 Midnight show and 14 April 72 Greensboro Coliseum performances are perhaps the most well known and amongst the favourites of many fans. This final version perhaps lacks the intimacy of those August 70 versions or the understated power of the 72 versions but this is still a powerful version and sung with no little passion.

@@MrDeSouza91 That is you saying that without having a musical ear. Elvis' voice degraded over time. In 1970 his voice was a full baritone to full tenor in range. As he started abuse drugs his voice got higher but a lot thinner. Notice his voice here....yes it is higher....but in no way is it fuller and stronger than it was in 1970. Not even close.

When "hangin' with the squad," I sometimes get a good-natured ribbing for being such a fan... so when I need to try to explain to friends why I'm such an Elvis weirdo, I say simply because he was the best singer in the world. And if I can get the young whippersnapper (some as young as 20s & 30s) to sit still long enough, I usually pick this video to cite as proof. Then whoever it is has a reaction of pure astonishment. All they knew previously, if anything at all, is Hound Dog and... that's about it! And some, before seeing this, might also poke fun at his weight, or the white jumpsuits, I then explain Elvis's black belt in karate. And I explain the suit design was inspired by, and then evolved, from his karate gi -- so that he could feel free to do his physicality on stage. And so, I tell my friend, watch out, the man could have whipped your butt with his pinky finger without looking up LOL... All of that tends to be very eye-opening and educational.

Absolutely, the always-amazing tonal resonance had evolved and refined to this incredibly rich, sweet maple syrup dribbling down your stack of pancakes. On top of that, I believe you're right, and that we all probably know, subconsciously, or even consciously, when we are going to transition soon. He was getting close to the spirit world, and i believe that can affect us in amazing ways. In Elvis's case, it contributed to enhancing his vocal power more than anyone would have imagined possible. I just thought of how being close to the other side was like finding a previously unknown location that has the best, most amazing acoustics ever known to mankind!

Something amazing about this version, in other ones he powered his voice through entire song. This one he sang it so softly, and gently too. I've always wondering in back of his mind if he knew his time was closer. This entire show is amazing and unique. The song list like "I Can't Stop Loving You," "Release Me," "Bridge Over Trouble Water," and more. But my all time favorite is September 1, 1974 show dinner show I think where Elvis goes into different level of power with this song.
