I found this old Ryobi Grass Scorpion (Model RCT-2800) in a recent shed clean-out job and challenged myself to get it running - no matter what! The first episode was sorting out the electrics, and now we come to the fuel system.

Not bad at all. Small engine repair is an incredibly useful skill. They should still teach that in school.

Agreed, they should! Teaching any sort of problem solving strategies should be taught in school actually!

i remember in My Tech school Yr 11 we pulled down a briggs and stratton 3.5hp and victa 2 stroke mower motor and reassembled with some text book notes, however none of it compares to what's on youtube these days for almost anything. (they should teach, how to find on youtube what you need to fix)

Chris, I really enjoy the small engine repairs. I have a 9-yr old Bolens string trimmer that has not been started for years. You have inspired me to try to get it going.

Good job Chris. The fuel line is crap. It go hard to quickly. I use to use a silicone one for methanol fuel in glow motors, but that goes hard as well after awhile. A guy once told me about this black fuel line I can't remember the name but it's quite expensive, but it last for many years. That reminds me of the change the fuel line on my generator. The four stroke I purchased from aldi only used at once and use 98 fuel in it empty the tank out I went to reuse it 12 months later, leaking like a sieve. Cheers Graham.

Thanks Graham, yeah most fuel line just doesn't last these days. I have heard of the black line as well - might be worth checking that out 👍😊

I've had a couple of homelite and ryobi snippers and blowers and even a victa 2 stroke mover that people had run on straight petrol.. game over for them, but usually the carby is still good which is the main issue with the others that turn up not running.

Yep Dean, many, many 2 strokes bit the dust due to the wrong fuel. Often it happens early in their life and so most other parts are still quite new and unworn 👍😊

When you watch the videos of guys that look through trash piles in front of houses there are almost always the same things thrown out: fans, microwaves, grass trimers and electronics from cheap outlets. Stuff you buy today is horrible quality. Fixing old stuff is better.

Yep, most street scrappers find the same type of stuff over & over again! Many of it can still actually be fixed, even though it is poor quality - but people just chuck and buy another unfortunately! Old stuff is nearly always a higher quality.

What do you mean it is hard to twitch left-handed? It is not. I am a southpaw, it's quite easy. LOL I actually am ambidextrous which as a child I said AmbiDexRose LOL. I am primarily left-handed writing, but I use tools and I bat a baseball righthanded as well.

I think most of us lefties are effectively forced to be ambidextrous to some degree as that's the way w're taught !
