New sound is great! Would love an episode on making adjustments with the two kinds of darts. Horizontal with short rows vs. vertical with increases. Best use cases, which particular fit issues they can address, how to figure out where to start/end them, etc. Another topic which would be greatly interesting to me (and quite possibly lots of others) is some methods for essentially re-writing one's pattern with your various adjustments so you can knit it up. There are loads of resources available on what to do (ie, add some increases or decreases here or there, etc.) but not a whole lot on once you know what you need to do, what's some good ways to actually get all that translated into your actual pattern. Personally, what works for me (and takes a very long time!) is using Excel to write out the entire pattern row by row with all the correct numbers of stitches including all the adjustments (and calculating new stitch counts, etc.), but I wonder if there's some less time intensive way to deal with the adjustments, especially ones that affect not just a little section you're working on, but that carry on further down in the pattern. Your insight into this would be grand. I suspect the reason there aren't many articles and videos about this because it's probably difficult to explain. :)

Thanks for the feedback on the sound! Great discussion ideas. I'll add them to the list! The second would be harder to explain but I'm sure we can come up with something creative! :)

Sound is great, and you answered my question about which increase method would look best for a stockinette sweater. Thank you!

Thank you very much. I’m actually apple shaped but a similar need is required. I’ve stumbled my way thru both of these techniques with varying degrees of success before. You have explained this so well I’m confident that my future mods will be perfect. Thanks again. Very much appreciated xox

Thank you for this video! I’ve been knitting my garments like this from day one because I am 15cm larger around my bum than my bust. Now I can refer others to this video of how to do it. As a 61 year old I just don’t feel comfortable in a bumhugging garment so will never even concider knitting straight down!😀 I am busy with Betha by Marie Wallin (bottom up) where I did a 12 st ( 1 pattern repeat)decrease 3 times in different sections of plain background colour rounds. Thank you for educating us! The sound is great! I wonder if the same approach can work for decreases (reverse math) when knitting a sweater for a figure with larger bust and narrower waist? I have an hourglass figure and often have difficulty fitting a garment. If I choose a size that fits well around my waist and hips, it always ends up being tight in the chest (which I don't like); and the other way around, when I knit a larger size to fit comfortably around the chest, I end up having too wide neck opening and too much fabric in the waist/hip area. I would love to have a solution for this, so I can adjust patterns to make them fit better. I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Hi Lena - great idea and yes - that's exactly what you'd want to do! If you're working top-down, you will adjust it by decreasing instead of increasing. And if yo'ure working bottom-up, you'll have your desired waist circumference and then increase up towards the chest circumference. So it would would exactly the same way, it's just a matter of reversing the increases and decreases so you get an inverted A-line shape instead of the shape I refer to in the video!

Thank you. Just wondering if you have smaller shoulders than your bust where would you adjust on a yoke cardigan😊

Hi Sally - I'm happy to try to help but can you be a bit more specific about what you need help with? Is it a drop-shoulder style sweater? A top-down circular style? If I have a bit more info I can try to offer some guidance.

@@TheUnapologeticKnitter Hi to here it is a top down yoke cardigan. I was thinking I could add extra stitches at the underarm. I increased for the small size which is done every four cm three times. Then at 22 cm you divide for sleeves

Ps it is a mohair silk one so was thinking I could add the fifteen extra stitches in one round to go from medium to small. Come visit NZ:)

@@sallyvince5183 Yes - that's a great plan! Choosing sizes from within the existing pattern is the easiest way to go so that you have fewer modifications once those new stitches are added. Episodes 4 and 5 of this podcast both talk about circular yoke garments and adding stitches. They specifically talk about making the modifications for the collar and sleeves, but the same theory would apply. You'll add the stitches you need to move from one size to another without impacting the depth of the yoke so you don't end up with a too-deep yoke. And thank you for such a kind invitation. NZ is most definitely on the list of places we want to go! The Hubbs and I just have to coordinate our schedules AND either find a dog sitter who will stay OR find a way to bring our pup with us! We'd want to come for a month or so to really get a feel for the place!
