@suestoons

@@wolfgangproductions7402 " this form of art seems very difficult to me..." For some reason, I find this statement shocking! It really stopped me in my tracks and made me think. For me, Art Journaling is "me time" "fun time", almost a guilty pleasure. It's time I allow myself just to be free and spontaneous. Some days I wake up and I just need to splash some paint around. Some days, I'm urged to do intricate colouring and mark making. The days when I've got a new supply or tool that I've never used before are always fun, fun, fun! It's a time to let go and do swatching and I'm always, ... always drawn to experiment with incorporating an old faithful tool or supply. I always have at least 4 or 5 journals on the go. I started with just one old book to slap extra paint into and have morphed slowly over the past 10 years to experimenting with making my own journals from scratch, using old hardcover books, and also experimenting with the different pre-made journals on the market. Currently, my craft buddy and I have two projects on the go. One a pre-made, wire-bound Mixed Media Journal and the other, [don't laugh] journals that we made from packing paper and old file folders. We did the DIY Journals a couple of years ago when MCB made her annual visit. Recently we discovered a KZbin Content Provider "Noit Art" that we find challenging. So we've divvied up the pages, each chose half of Noit's videos as a challenge for a 2-page layout and now we're working through them during our weekly Skype Craft sessions. I'm really very curious to know what you find difficult.

It was so nice that you actually said that the the £18 journal was expensive. So often on all the videos people are paying about £85 for one and over £100 to £200 on designer paints and it makes you feel inadequate that you don't have the money for these. It's sort of put across that you need all these special paints and designer brands to be an artist. When really the art comes from within oneself and not from designer stuff. There are wonderful art products out there, people can be really snobby. You can have a glue stick, an old magazine page and a sheet of paper and make art with it or just a basic pencil and paper. It is so nice for someone to understand that these days, £18 can be a lot of money. I don't even have that a week to eat with. Your videos always cheer me up and make me happy. Thank you xXx

reading this comment felt so good, I feel exactly the same way!! art isnt about fancy paint or supplies, its about creating with a ballpoint pen on a receipt, scribbling on the corners of a newspaper or making collages from old paper bags.. I want people who read this to know you are an artist because of the idea in your head and not the money in your wallet!
@SpookyRooster135
@SpookyRooster135 3 жыл бұрын
@@clarataut5868 That's an excellent way to put it. I'll have to remember that, one, thank you. The magic of art comes from within and not the tools that you use. When you see people making art by burning toast and drawing pictures in the sand or with chalk on a pavement, it hits home. I bought a ton of stuff, saying to myself I'll be better if I have .... Did it make any difference, no. I have more colour choices etc. but that's it.

@@SpookyRooster135 thats so true, I love artists who use whatever comes across their way.. and I think I want to challenge myself to actively use little supplies to make it more about the art itself.

At age 18, in 1970, I started keeping a diary.... Page a day.... Full.... In 1972, as a, student I added a large notebook where I wrote down thoughts and feelings and quotes etc. That's as well as the A5 size page a day diary.... Full. I continued with this until '78 when I got married and life settled down. But I always had an engagement diary where I noted things as well as my 'engagements '. In the 90s I started getting nice blank notebooks and writing as often as I felt like it. Thoughts and feelings. A day to day record of all the holidays (I went to India for work and 2 trips to Egypt for pleasure). No one had ever talked about "journalling ", but then, this was pre Internet. So now, as I approach my 69th birthday next year, I have 50 years worth of writing...... Some day I'll look back on it all. It is all writing. I'm a writer at heart not a visual artist and all that drawing and sticking that you do doesn't fire me up at all. But I do like to write with different coloured pens. 😅 And I like the act of handwriting.

I really like your choices of journals. They are also this expensive in Canada, but as you say, it’s worth it. Every time I go shopping for one, I can spend 30 minutes to one hour choosing one, feeling the paper textures, looking at the sizes, the number of pages, etc. And every time, I can imagine the employees thinking « well, here is an undecided one there... ». 😅

I come from a family of artists on my mom's side, some of whom were good enough to make a living at it...and I wished more than anything as a child that I could just sit down and draw anything I liked. I joked that I was holding the door when art talent was passed out. I've always loved lettering and I love to write, and I love collage, so I combine those in my journal. Thank you for being so inspiring and natural. I'm teaching myself to draw and received a huge art set for Christmas from my brother and his wife, and he also gave me a book about oil painting for Easter...the possibilities are limitless!

I found art journaling when I was deep in an episode of depression and anxiety in 2014. I have art journaled every day since! I spent a whopping £20 on a mixed media sketchbook once and although I loved it it was too extravagant for me to do again. Recycling is really important to me so I now work in preexisting books from the charity shops, especially spiral-bound road atlases as I find that as they get fatter the binding helps the book stay more secure. I am very new to your channel and already love it! It's always nice to find more UK art journaling

Just today ran across your channel so not sure what order these are in yet...Anyway...I just wanted to comment here about a topic in the last video I watched regarding hair. I believe we women really come into our own power when we stop dying out the gray. I gave it up about three years ago and only looked back when my daughter, who is a beautician, came to visit and dyed me a beautiful purplish pink under the back. It only showed when my hair was up, which is about all the time. And I love, love, loved it. We are most beautiful in our natural state, and you, my dear, are a real gypsy queen!! Thank you for sharing your beauty and art with us, the anonymous us, who dearly love your content.

I love journaling because it's like one of the only "art" things I do that is solely for me. I enjoy showing people cool pages but it's really like a personal scrapbook. Full of feelings and random pieces of paper that have weird meanings to me. It's also really great for using up supplies that I don't touch often, makes me feel better about having them lol PLUS the scrapbook style of it means I can write notes about how I feel or ideas I have elsewhere throughout the day and just add them to my journal later

Nice to find another journaling bug 🤗 I do journal daily for the past 2 years. I started because the world was spinning too fast and I couldn’t process all of it. The world kept on spinning too fast but I allowed myself to step out and organize my own thoughts. I find it very useful as a “purging” tool. Writing down the negative thoughts created more space in my head. I am now moving towards a more visual journal with less words. Funny how we change... your videos are very inspiring! Thank you.

Lots of great tips, Wendy. Love all of your journals. I almost forgot that I have a little Moleskin journal. Yep, isn't it fun to journal? I've been doing since I was 10 years old and got my first lockable diary. It was pink and I loved talking about the fun at the beach as I lived 5 min from some gorgeous beaches at what's called Jones Beach on Long Island, N.Y. where I grew up.and last but not least, I wrote about boys. I wasn't truly thinking of boys till I was 13, but they in much of my entries-Ha! Journaling kept me sane thru many situations up to the present. I love all of your videos as so many of your subscribers do. You offer something so different in that you are not afraid to talk honestly about yourself so we can get to know you and learn. all kinds of things. Thank you so much. XOXOJANE

I don't haave a particular style of drawing, I just like making anything I'm in the mood of but that's been making me feel inadequate as if I'm not a "real artist" if I don't have a particular style. But when you weres sifting through your journals I noticed some mixture if different styles and I felt so so good about that. Thank you for making this!!

I just just want to say thank you. I am a busy mom. I used to play music but haven't really felt called to do that to for a while. I love visual art but don't really want to draw or work towards fancy paintings. I don't have time. This looks so perfect for this season in my life. It looks like something that is fun and expressive that I can do within an hour, all while documenting the beautiful things that happen in our lives to treasure for years to come. Thank you!!

I used to use massage in class too, especially during the build up to SATS. I used to do the visual imagery relaxation with the children and adults. It doesn’t work for me though. But I’ve had a lot of children and adults fall asleep. I had to go on a pain management course and the physio was talking about it and said she liked to relax with it too. So I said swap seats I’ll do it 😂 She nodded off and a couple of the other ladies😀

This has been, by far, the most inspiring and informational video I have watched about art journaling in the last 5 years or so. I really appreciate how you made sure to mention that there are no rules about it but still offered suggestions on how to keep up with the process, create, express, etc. I finally was brave enough to buy my first journal yesterday and I am very excited to start my journey. I would LOVE more videos about your art journalling process, including something you mentioned earlier about how you practice turning negative thoughts to positive. So far you are the ONLY person out there on youtube I can find that has the approach I would like to have, the kind of art I admire. Sure I could do it on my own, but I also long to have someone else on my wavelength to journal "with" me ;-) thanks for all you do
