During the Second World War as the war turned against the German Army, the Soviet Red Army advanced throughout German lands with brutality and speed. The Red Army soldiers became known for being horrific with committing many war crimes, including many of these being directed towards women. As the Soviet Union had been invaded by Germany years before, the Germans had committed many war crimes and assaults too, and with this the Soviets believed in retribution. But during the Battle of Berlin, the final battle of the Second World War in Europe, the Red Army committed horrific war crimes.
It's believed that 100,000 women were subject to horrific ordeals at the hands of Soviet soldiers and around 20,000 women it is believed died because of their treatment. The women of Berlin were incredibly fearful of the Soviets and what they would do. In the early evenings, the women of Berlin would hide wherever they could as them deemed these were the 'hunting hours,' where Red Army soldiers patrolled and looked for women. Some of the stories of the Red Army inside of the German capital were horrifically tragic and sad, but inside of Berlin the Soviets conducted scores of war crimes. Still today many old Berliners can recall the horror of the Battle of Berlin.

People who degrade the Soviet Union and the Red Army are pure Evil..either totally ignorant, or totally brainwashed by shocking anti Soviet and anti Russian hate, since the people's October 1917 Revolution. Western rulers, the Capitalists, are still doing it today. Posting these manufactured videos is shameless. And here we see other foreigners who don't even know that Belorussians and Ukrainians are Russians..pure and simple, they are all Russians. Stop this total madness. Think about your own country, and how it doesn't mesure when compared to Russia. Russians and the Soviets gave the US world freedom from oppression, freedom from Nazi Germany. The west is now trying to reintroduce Nazism..And that is the lowest act possible...after all the terrible crimes the Nazis performed...and we must never forget the terrible crimes all western countries served to so many people around the world. My biological grandma died early to cancer and my grandpa remarried. The woman he married, for me my grandma, was from prussia and had to flee from the russians. She was raped by russian soldiers and lost the ability to have children. She got children to care for from marrying my grandpa, but never her own - which gave her a really hard time dealing with the children of the other woman. With that kind of history/burden on her back the family-life was anything but happy. When my grandpa later fell in love with another woman and thought about a divorce she couldn t handle losing even more and threatened to kill herself.... I only learned of the rape and all the histrory after she died. She and my grandpa never got divorced. That experience had an impact on generations... (her, unable to have her own children and a trauma that was never dealt with. my mom and aunts with a new mom that wasn t up to the role and my grandpa unable to divorce because he was afraid she would kill herself) My grandpa fought under rommel in africa and was later captured by american soldiers. he himself was also from prussia. After beeing pow for years he came back to germany. Prussia and his home didn t exist any more and he learned from their former neighbours that his parents where killed by russian soldiers when he was pow. They had a farm in prussia. when his parents tried to flee they tried to take some animals with them- but they were too slow. some russian soldiers drove by in a car and just shot the civilians. the war had a deep inpact on him. he never talked much, he always hoped to get his home in prussia back, always had hidden weapons nearby and case someone wanted to rob him/take his stuff and till he died he ate eggs with the eggshells (because they have calcium) because thats what they did when they hungered back then.... war is always ugly and in ww2 lots of crimes happened. be it german soldiers killing civilians, the russians when they went after the prussians and east germans, the brits and us fire-bombing whole cities, targeting civilians or the us targeting civilians with nuclear bombs in Japan... Lets just hope history never repeats (*looks at the ukraine*)

If you read Hartmann's book "Blonde Knight of Germany" he writes about his squadron surrendering to the Red Army. With the pilots and the ground crew were their wives and families. Of course the Soviets helped themselves to some raping. The next day the Soviet area commander arrived and said that all assaults would stop and any further assaults would be punished. Of course they continued and the commander asked all of the assaulted women to step forward. They did and he lined up all of his men and asked the women to identify the culprits. They were pointed out, gallows were constructed and the offenders hanged in front of their fellows.

This brutality can not be reduced to the Axis and Russian armies! I knew a German woman from the American sector after WW2, who was abused by 5 American soldiers for hours. I found it out, because working as a nurse, I asked about a date tattooed on the inside of her upper left tigh. She told me about the rape at her age of 16 and that the soldiers tattooed the date of the rape on her tigh, for that she should remember it her whole life. She did. She was mentally broken and never had a retationship beside to a teddybear from that time, that helped her to survive until she died at the age of 78. "Im amerikanisch besetzten Bayern kam es nach dem Einmarsch zu zahlreichen Fällen von sexueller Gewalt.[53] Die Historikerin Miriam Gebhardt verweist auf 540 Einmarschberichte der katholischen Pfarrer der Erzdiözese München-Freising. Diese Berichte belegen drastisch, dass 1945 in fast jedem Dorf Vergewaltigungen stattfanden." (The historian Miriam Gebhard tells, that in the American Sector Bavaria a lot of cases of sexual abuse by Americans happened, a study based on reports of catholic priests: In almost every bavarian villiage cases of abuse took place.) And I have a lot of former Yugoslavian female colleagues, that are still traumatized by what happened during the Balkan war... . This is an endless horrific story of mankind.

Sounds like bull shit , If any complaint had been made to an American officer a full investigation would have ensued and it would be Public Record as well as military record. The men responsible would have been tried and imprisoned. I know this because unlike the Russians and the Germans , 90% of American soldiers were Christians. In a military group nothing happens that is not widely known quickly. I am sure their were crimes of Americans who raped in WW2 because their is record but finding five non Christian American criminal soldiers all willing to rape is a fantasy , I spent 25 years a Christian in U.S. military service.

It's one fo the reasons Hitler didn't let on he had a girlfriend and said he was married to Germany... so as not to lose the women vote which was substantial to him coming into power. Half my family is German and I'm hoping they were in the Western side under the Allies becuse I've never heard them talk about any of this... so... I think they escaped it for the most part. What they didn't escape was the years of food shortages and shortages of everything and poverty for years to come. My neighbour growing up escaped Hungary as a young teenager. She remembered the Russians coming to her town. She was about eight. She said they hide in a swamp while a battle raged for several days. Her and her brothers began to return to their town, when German soldiers who were retreating, demanded her brother’s clothing at gun point. The German soldiers were terrified of the Russian women who were often placed at the front line because of their extraordinary barbarity. When they finally reached their town, she was taken to a loft with all the young girls and women to hide from the incoming Russians. Several older women 40+ in age sacrificed themselves to rape. She remembers hearing footsteps coming up the entryway to the loft. They would stop just before the hatch and retreat down the steps. She remembers being told later that the Russians would not lift the hatch to any loft because they knew that in Russia the women would be waiting with pitchforks to spear the Germans when they would lift a hatch. They stayed there for several days until the third or fourth wave of Russians advanced. She said these were the administrative waves that were less beastial and somewhat civilized. I remember her telling me about the terror she faced. I was young when she told me this story, but I always wondered if in most wars, the first wave of any advancing army is almost always largely made up of those released from prisons and lunatic asylums. I later found out that solders from my country🇨🇦 had a reputation of being very civilized when they liberated anyone in WW2. Many people from those countries immigrated to 🇨🇦 and shared these stories of decency. It makes me proud…Mrs. Ganz had a very difficult childhood. Her mother died when she was three and her father went away to fight. It was 1940. She was left with aunts who were religious zealots who treated her as a slave. She would have to kneel for hours saying the rosary for anything she didn’t do correctly. Her father was killed on one of the very last days of the war. She remained with those aunts until her brothers were able to establish themselves in Austria. She remembers meeting up with smugglers one night who met up with several other groups trying to leave Hungary. She was only fifteen when she had to crawl through minefields. She remembers several mines going off as she crawled under the wire. Her life here was good, but she was always treated as a servant by all members of her and her husbands families whenever they would visit. I loved Rosie ❤…She was funny when on the phone because she could speak five languages and would use them all in one phone call…I know this is a long post, but I owe it to her to tell her story. She died alone and forgotten by the member of her family she loved to most. He is a narcissistic fuck who has to live with the fact that he did nothing to help her if it was not going to be beneficial to him. He stole money and weaselled his way into being a co-executer of her substantial investments her husband left her…And I used to call him a friend…Her story needs to be told because that generation of people who have memories of the war are dying and their stories will die with them.

The experience of the Red Army by various nations vastly depends on whether they were pro-nazi during the war or not. My family is from Northern Serbia. My grandma still vividly remembers how the Red Army soldiers treated her parents and their neighbours with utter respect and kindness when they were passing through their village after liberating them from the nazi occupation. She remembers her mum dressed her up in a pretty dress and one of the Red Army soldiers, who played the accordion, started crying when he saw her cause she reminded him of his daughter. These soldiers just needed rest and they stayed a couple of nights in peoples' backyards. My grandma was quite young at the time but she remembers the army field kitchen was in their backyard and all the Red Army soldiers who came to get food there, were nice and friendly to the locals and no one in their village was afraid of them. It has to be said that my grandma comes from a village and a family that were anti-fascist during the war. It is possible that the Red Army soldiers were understandably not as nice to nazis and their collaborators whom there were many of throughout the region and Europe in general.

I watched a Red Army soldier tell a Tory if two very young teen girls that were trying to get through the Soviet camp at early day light. He stated that he tried to get them to go back from where they came from fast. They didn’t understand and continued forward. Both were caught and raped to death by over 20 men. Both girls were around the age of 11-14 years old. There are the brutalities of war then there are things like this that go way above and beyond.

this is my story. I´m Swedish. my great grandmother and father lived on Ormsö outside Estonia a Swedish speaking island.they lived on self sufficient farms. and when the Germans arrived during war nothing happened, they even became friends with them not knowing much about the war in the rest of Europe. but when the Russians won over the Germans the Germans told the islanders how dangerous the red army was and that they had to flee in their little rowing boats all the way to Sweden. and they let them do that. my great grandmother was also pregnant with my grandmother at the time. so during a stormy night they took their boats and started their journey. my great grandmother always praised German soldiers for having humanity and the Russians for being madmen.that was her take on it. the Russians claimed the island raised their own church there and when the Russians lived there the island turned to poverty, criminality and alcoholism. Today the island Ormsö, Vormsi(estonian)is free from the Russians and a good place to visit again.

@@sancat888 I understand your story, just find it curious in some details... There was no such a thing as "the russian soldier was worse than the germans" the political side of the germans and what their war machine did to the world was far from grotesque, and if we are not speaking in german in this moment we may thank the red army for this, actually myself as someone coming from a "lower race" in the Nazi ideology i got even more to thanks our comrades. I may trust in your story, because war bring the worse of men, we see it in all wars and all fronts, those men saw their entire villages being burnt to the ground by the nazi, their people systematically butchered with industrial techniques (watch the movie ИДИ И СМОТРИ). Their were traumatized, revengenful of any particular groups that were friendly with the Nazi in any way, even the red army being very strict and punished soldiers for those transgressions (the URSS want to be pictured as the liberators of the nazi regime in the foreing nations invaded by the germans, and so they did at that time). When we talk of Nazi colaborators the URSS persecuted and executed those, and they did just right. My grandfather was a communist (so am I) and a Brazillian expeditionare that fought in the italian front. His stories teached me how war is the ugliest thing the human society can do, but even so some wars need to be fought, the red army and the allies fought a war that needed to be fought, against the nazi, represented by the german goverment and bourgeoisie(several enterprises collaborated in the most despicable ways with the nazi, such as Kprupp, Wolkswagen and even ford in the 30s), even by the finland goverment as well (The finland fought side by side with the germans and were comanded by a very similar facist type of goverment).

Women in America have already experienced some of what to expect from a conquering enemy. It was over a 100 years ago. Courtesy of one, John Bale Turchin, whose troops, he commanded in the Civil War, committed the rape of Athens, Alabama. His commanding officer, General Don Carlos Buell, wanted to court martial him. President Lincoln, however, apparently impressed by his work, promoted him to Brigadier General. This conduct became, not uncommon for the rest of the war. Turchin's name, before he changed it, after emigrating, was Valery Ilyanovich Turchinov, formerly of the Czar's Imperial Army!

One of Mitchell’s subordinates-John Basil Turchin, the Russian colonel of the Nineteenth Illinois regiment-was too brutal even for Mitchell, and the latter tried to keep him within bounds. His worst offence was at Athens, in Limestone County, in May, 1862. Athens was a wealthy place, intensely southern in feeling, and on that account was most heartily disliked by the Federals. Here, for two hours, Turchin retired to his tent and gave over the town to the soldiers to be sacked after the old European custom. Revolting outrages were committed. Robberies were common where Turchin commanded. His Russian ideas of the rules of war were probably responsible for his conduct. Buell characterized it as “a case of undisputed atrocity.” For this Athens affair Turchin was court-martialled and sentenced to be dismissed from the service. The facts were notorious and well known at Washington, but the day before Buell ordered his discharge, Turchin was made a brigadier-general. General Mitchell himself reported (May, 1862) that “the most terrible outrages-robberies, rapes, arson, and plundering-are being committed by lawless brigands and vagabonds connected with the army.” He asked for authority to hang them and wrote, “I hear the most deplorable accounts of excesses committed by soldiers.” About fifty of the citizens of Athens, at the suggestion of Mitchell, filed claims for damages. Thereupon Mitchell informed them that they were laboring under a very serious misapprehension if they expected pay from the United States government unless they had proper vouchers. Buell condemned his action in this matter also. Mitchell asked the War Department for permission to send prominent Confederate sympathizers at Huntsville to northern prisons. He said that General Clemens and Judge Lane advised such a measure. He reported that he held under arrest a few active rebels “who refused to condemn the guerilla warfare.” The War Department seems to have been annoyed by the request, but after Mitchell had repeated it, permission was given to send them to the fort in Boston Harbor. Mitchell was charged at Washington with having failed in his duty of repressing plundering and pillaging. He replied that he had no great sympathy with the citizens of Athens who hated the Union soldiers so intensely.

@@aagg6433 I see it as two possible ways first, she had no idea of the "side atrocities" of the Nazis, that they weren't just "invading foreign countries and conquering them", you know there's all the other stuff that goes along with it, and then the atrocities that went along with the "invading and conquering". Such as the raping involved with 'invading and conquering". Both on land and at sea, associated with every troop-movement, every battle. Second, she didn't really know anything about the "extermination", the "ethnic cleansing", the enslavement, "forced labor" and the "death-camps" parts. All of which involved Nazis picking-off, exploiting and then shooting women, possibly some men and children also, for their personal pleasure. And their collaborators, who weren't officially Nazis, might even have been foreigners. But they were all happy and willing to exploit the chaos created by the Nazis. And that certainly included some right at home in Berlin. Certainly even in her own small little town. Not saying that all the Germans were rapists, or even that all the rapists were German. But without a doubt they were the engine behind all the raping. If they hadn't, you know, started the war and conquered so much territory, then this woman might have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about foreigners taking over Germany and raping the women. Instead of realizing that it's just part of the process of losing the war. I'm sure that they ran around screaming that it was !!!!! illegal !!!!! for their women to get raped by foreign soldiers. Funny how criminals turn to the law for protection from the consequences of their own actions. They know how little hope there is for them to use, you know, "right and wrong" or some other moral concern as a defense. I'm surprised that it wasn't an actual law in the Soviet military handbook that said "there shall be no tolerance for women of the vanquished party, who opposed the Soviet military in open combat and who attacked the Soviet people, who then complain about getting raped. None whatsoever. Especially when their military has raped its way halfway across the USSR and raped its way back out of the USSR...all while justifying the torture, raping and killing of Soviet citizens by the fact that they weren't good little Nazi collaborators".

...did you know that Nazi commanders often demanded a tribute from the towns in their command-area, to avoid either leveling or burning the town and exploiting all of the civilians, or just burning the ghettoes and exploiting the surviving Jews? In one instance the Nazi commander demanded 56 kg of golf plus some large amount of local currency. Your people were no better than the Vikings, the Mongols or any number of marauding tribesmen, invaders and pirates of various European countries throughout history. They just did it in 1940 instead of 1240 or even 1640. You should thank the Americans and Soviets for only *raping* German women and not carting them off to be sold as slaves in Istanbul. Which is usually what would happen. And trust me, your men did a hell of a lot worse than that in all the territory and to all the people they captured between Austria and Moscow. And they literally turned on and slaughtered the Italians who had changed sides during the war, on the mere basis of calling them traitors. Not the Italian leadership who actually negotiated the truce with the Allies and signed the truce in secret, releasing the information from the top down. The Italian soldiers who were out in the field who had no idea what was going on, had no orders for what to do after the truce was signed, they were completely blindsided by what happened. This did not matter to the Nazis. They rounded them all up whenever possible and shot them as traitors. Surprisingly this drove the surviving Italians to join the local partisans in open warfare against the Nazis who then occupied and fortified their country against the Allies with whom the Italians had just signed a peace treaty. The Italias, not to mention the Italian Jews, were then caught in the middle between the invading and advancing Allied forces and the retreating Nazi forces. You honestly thought the Nazis gave a rats' ass about raping, torturing and killing any civilians who got in their sights? Do you think that they cared about any appeals for clemency or leniency from the locals? I'm sure tl of the German people thought that their government would carry-out this "world conquest" in a polite, peaceful and respectful manner, with no raping or pillaging involved whatsoever.

Of course, there is no excuse for soldiers raping civilians in war. The question is, why, upon examining war rape, are the Germans singled out as the victims, and Soviets the perpetrators? German soldiers never raped any Soviet women when they invaded their way to the gate of Moscow? If the video concerns itself with the international tragedy of war-rape throughout WWII, and reflects on the transcending human sufferings, I'd give it two thumbs up - in that case focusing on cases where perpetrators were Soviet soldiers is not a deviation from objectivity, since by all accounts Soviet soldiers did rape German women in millions. However, the video doesn't go for that direction. It excludes any mentions of war-rape inflicted upon millions of Soviet women by German soldiers, and unapologetically drums up a narrative of the Soviets exclusively being the soulless devils and Germans exclusively being the innocent victims. Such nationality-exclusivity bumps hypocrisy to a disgusting level. Even North Korean propaganda has more subtlety.

But at a time when most female German women had no idea whether their families were alive, dead or in a gulag somewhere, they search the bombed out streets for food for their children, only to be snatched up like war trophies. Or their teenage daughters are grabbed. No men to protect them. No justice if it happens. The suicide rate would be high. I don’t wish this on any people.

Heinrich Himmler made a very public speech tat was recorded and replied on German radio in which he said in no ambiguous terms that they were killing Jews en masse in specially designed camps. You can find the recording on KZbin Every German family that had a son on the front lines got letters back describing atrocities they witnessed. Any German who worked in a factory during the war had foreign slave labourers working next to them. Two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead but we're talking about hundreds of thousands of people who had first-hand knowledge. The notion that Germans did not know is laughable.

@@handeyecoordinationskills Thank you for your words , but the difference is that the attitude of the governments to this issue was different . Hitler's parting words to the Wehrmacht sounded like this : My soldiers , you are going to the east , where the laws of chivalry should not work , where the laws of war do not work, I am freeing you from morality , morality is a public girl of the bourgeoisie. The words of the head of the USSR Stalin Joseph Vissarionovich from the Order of February 23, 1942 No. 55, congratulated the military and partisans on the 24th anniversary of the Red Army: "Sometimes they talk in the foreign press that the Red Army has as its goal to exterminate the German people and destroy the German state. This, of course, is stupid nonsense and an unwise slander against the Red Army. The Red Army does not and cannot have such idiotic goals. The Red Army aims to expel the German occupiers from our country and liberate the Soviet land from the Nazi invaders. It is very likely that the war for the liberation of the Soviet land will lead to the expulsion or destruction of the Hitler clique. We would welcome such an outcome. But it would be ridiculous to identify Hitler's clique with the German people, with the German state. The experience of history says that the Hitlers come and go, but the German people, and the German state remains. Finally, the strength of the Red Army consists in the fact that it does not and cannot have racial hatred towards other peoples, including the German people, that it has been brought up in the spirit of equality of all peoples and races, in the spirit of respect for the rights of other peoples. The racial theory of the Germans and the practice of racial hatred led to the fact that all freedom-loving peoples became enemies of fascist Germany. The theory of racial equality in the USSR and the practice of respect for the rights of other peoples led to the fact that all freedom-loving peoples became friends of the Soviet Union. This is the strength of the Red Army. This is also the weakness of the German Fascist army.

The remaining population in the liberated areas, regardless of whether they are German, Czech or Polish, should not be subjected to violence. The perpetrators will be punished according to the laws of war. In the liberated territories, sexual relations with females are not allowed. Perpetrators of violence and rape will be shot!" - Joseph Stalin, January 19, 1945 In a study conducted by Professor Yuri Zhukov from the Russian academy of sciences, most of the rapes conducted in Berlin and East Germany were conducted by Eastern European immigrants who had fled to Germany in 1944 during the Soviet offensives like Bagration and also by Soviet prisoners of War who were released in 1945 that wanted to take revenge. However such crimes did not go unpunished and many were wither shot or sent to the gulags by the NKVD. Western and German propaganda always loved to portray the soviets as barbaric rapists which is a bunch of rubbish. American troops raped many women in France and Italy but that was overlooked and hidden. German forces on the other hand did countless rapes in the occupied territories. specially in the Soviet Union. Many women were falsely accused as communist partisans and were raped multiple times before finally being killed. Not to forget in the concentration camps many Jewish women were sexually abused by the camp guards and officers but these were all spoken less of. Instead the focus was shifted to the liberating Red army. Double standard at its best but nothing surprising.

Should be noted that Field Marshall Gunther von Kluge, Field Marshal Walter von Reichenau, and General Ernst Hammer, all of whom commanded regular Wehrmacht forces, each at some point issued orders to execute captured Soviet women soldiers. Many German soldiers, disgusted to find that Soviet women were engaged in combat against them, didn't need orders. About 1 million Soviet women served as regular army soldiers, so I find it interesting that I can't recall ever seeing any photos of Soviet female POW's being held by Germany. You'd think there would have been enough of them captured that had they not all been executed in the field, that they would have filled a POW slave labor camp or two, and that we'd have some photos of them.

This is indeed a sad and true event, it's undeniable that russian soldiers comitted these atrocities to german women. But you also have to remember that when the germans pushed into Russia during Barbarossa millions of women (yes, millions) were also raped and killed, since women were present in the red army. The western campaign of the war was the more humane one, the eastern campaign was a war of brutalism, of revenge and mass executions. Millions of soviet soldiers died in camps or were executed on site, as the germans saw them as subhumans, and when the tides turned, the soviets returned the favour by brutalizing both the army and the civilian populace.

Allied POW's interned in Switzerland (pilots/aircrew that had to bail-out over Switzerland) were sent to pretty relaxed POW camps (far as pow camps are concerned). POW's could ski and even take some college classes. I've even read they were allowed to go into town and buy alcohol. BUT... That kinda life got boring for some. Some wanted to get back into the war. So they tried to escape. If you tried to escape and you were captured you were sent to a different kind of POW camp. Not the easy POW camps where you could ski and drink or take college classes... but actual POW camps that would rival those in Germany. One camp was called Wauwilermoos interment camp and it was run by a pro Nazi nut-job called André Béguin. For some it was hell on earth. Hell on earth is an understatement. Men were raped by other men and nothing was done about it. Andre Beguin would laugh it off. The sadistic pig. The raping was done by a group of Soviet/Russian airmen against weaker allied airman. Not against German women/civilians but against their fellow allied comrades in arms. One young American boy (that was repeatedly raped by the Soviet/Russian airman) tried to kill himself by stuffing hay down his throat to suffocate himself. He was able to get word back to the Americans and when the Americans found out they threatened to make some "accidental bombings" on Switzerland if it didn't stop. It stopped but by then the war was almost over. André Béguin was arrested by the Swiss for a bunch of different charges. He was given 42 months prison. He really should have been hanged. I doubt anything was done to the Soviet/Russian rapist. They should have been hanged. They (Plus every Goddamn Soviet soldier that raped and every Nazi soldier that raped. Hell any soldier that did any raping regardless of where they were from) should have been hanged. So you can see raping was just second nature to the Soviets in WW2. Didn't matter if it was German civilians or ALLIED MALE Pow's. I'm sorry but I have no love for the Soviets in WW2. About as much love as I got for the SS.... none at all. It ticks me off about how we cover the German atrocities of WW2 (which we should absolutely cover) but we don't talk much about how the Soviets were a bunch of brutal monsters. We tend to treat them as liberating heroes when in actuality they were a bunch of opportunistic monsters. Patton was right... we fought/defeated the wrong enemy. Let me include this so we are clear. I'm not defending the Nazis. Hell I'm part Jewish for crying out loud. Lol I am mad that we let the soviets take Eastern Europe. The Soviets were not the liberating heroes media makes them out to be. Eastern Europe simply traded one totalitarian boot (Nazis) for a different totalitarian boot (Soviets). Part of Czechoslovakia and Hungary (to name a few) should never been handed over to the Soviets/Communist on a silver plater. And I don't agree with us supplying the Soviets with our lend lease.

This number originated from the book The Fall of Berlin 1945 published by English writer Antony Beevor in 2002. He, in turn, refers to the book "BeFreier und Befreite" (1992) by German feminist writer Helke Sander. Helke Sander used a statistical model to come up with the number of the rapes. She found a copy of a birth report from one of Berlin's hospitals for 1945 - 1947, and used it as a starting point According to this document, in 1945 in this hospital 237 women gave birth, and 12 or 13 of them claimed Russian fathers (in 1946, 21/567). From this, she concluded that about 5% of all children born between Sept 1945 - Aug 1946 were from the Russian soldiers. Then she used a number of assumptions: 1. According to the official statistics, there were 23,124 new-born babies within this time period in Berlin. Assuming that the report from the above hospital was typical, she got 23,124 * 5% = 1,156 "Russian" babies; 2. Assume that 9 out of 10 raped women who got pregnant had an abortion. Then, the number of women who became pregnant from the rapes must be 1,156 *10 = 11,560; 3. Assume that pregnancy happened in 20% of the rapes. Then, the total number of rapes must be 11,560 * 5 = 57,800; 4. During the period, there were 600,000 women aged 18 - 45 in Berlin. So, 57,800/600,000 = 9.5% of them must have been raped; 5. According to Dr.Goebbels, the Russians raped all German women from 8 to 80 years old. Since during the period there were 800,000 women from 8 - 18 and 45-80 in Berlin, applying 9.5% ratio yielded additional 73,300 rape victims; 6. Therefore, the total number of Russian rapes in Berlin during the period was 73,300 + 57,800 = 131,100. For reasons unknown, she rounded down the number to 110,000; 7. Finally, assuming that the ratios were the same for the entire country, she extrapolated the above analysis on the Soviet-occupied Germany to arrive to 2,000,000 rapes.
