My father’s US Army unit, the 11th Armored Division of the 3rd US Army, liberated Mauthausen on 5 May 45 after most of the SS guards had fled. In 2007 we took Dad back to Europe to re-trace the unit’s path; Mauthausen was the last stop on our itinerary since henwanted to see it again. By Gen Eisenhower’s decree, all GIs in the vicinity of the camps would visit them to become future witnesses against the deniers. A grim place, indeed. Thank you for telling the story, lest we forget.

I visited Mauthausen in the mid 80's. While there I walked through the area where prisoner were "processed". Step 1 - The Gas Chamber. Step 2 - The door to the chamber led to the processing table, about 20 feet away. On that table, dead prisoners would have their "items of value" removed such as the gold in their teeth. Step 3 - The door out of that table room lead directly to 4 or 5 ovens, about 10 feet away, where the bodies were disposed of. A huge chimney vented the smoke from those ovens. It was like a for "profit" slaughter house where every step in the process was well planned out.

I visited around 37 years ago. There were only 2 ovens. One was very small, more like a solid fuel heating boiler. I have since seen that 2 ovens have been constructed close by but just like ones at Auschwitz - no prisoners of those respective camps were cremated in those ovens. They were brought in and assembled post-war.

I have visited Mauthausen. The gas chamber was tiny. There were only 2 ovens. I have seen on a more recent video that 2 more ovens have been brought in BUT those ovens never operated at Mauthausen .

I like the way this young man understands the the value of history. The importance of our connection to it. Knowing history is the only way to understand the events happening in our everyday lives to this very day. I just hope in his studies that he realizes that, all historians are human and they are pushed to join the majority consciences of fact. If you reject the majority consciences you will be rejected by the same logic. the majority used to come to their flawed consciences. When you spend any amount of time looking into the overall cause and effect of WW2 the inconsistencies are legend.. .. By Just making this statement I will be labeled a NAZI.. tell me .. This German officer got what he deserved. All of them did. What they did in those camps was not right. They were innocent people they killed. None of this should have happened. Many innocent people died at the hands of the Nazis. The Jewish population suffered tremendously. They are hard working people just like the rest of us what happened to them was not right.
