Originally it was a co-poduction of TV stations ORF (Austria) and Sat.1 (Germany) between 1994-2004, set in Vienna. It was rebooted by Italian Station Rai Uno from 2007-2014, this time set in Rome, but still linked to the original production ... The series ran for a total of 214 episodes.

What an absolute gem this show is. I was so excited when it first came on tv. I watched Kommisar Rex (Austrian) years ago and loved it. I love this show. It's the first time in a long time that one of the main characters is a German Sheppard. The last time I remember a Canadian show featuring a dog is The Littlest Hobo and that was back in the late 1970"s/ 80"s. Season 6 is fantastic. I love every episode from every season and watch it over and over again.

I noticed that the same company that puts out Hudson & Rex also puts out the Murdock series. Their faith in the Murdock series gives me hope that this series will continue for a few more years. I have not missed one episode of of either show. Canadian TV has a much higher quality of TV series!
