Thank you for sharing such an interesting outline of your gardening journey. It may be an interesting side project to some how archive/ interview other gardeners ( special guests, other garden channels , subscribers) for a series about their gardening origin stories. Perhaps a short interview ( about 5- 10 minutes) and stitch those stories together for a video series. That could spin off for some shorts too.

That is a great idea! I’ll have to put that in the mix for future episodes!

I stared gardening growing up in the high desert in Oregon, then continued having garden plots in various places and when I bought my first house on a 7,000 sqft urban lot in California in 2013, I had a goal of plaanting a completely edible landscaping (I had yet to learn about food forests!). I had a goal of planting all permanent plants in the first year, and I almost made my goal!...of course, I kept planting more and more each year anyway...there's always room for one more plant, right? With 11.5 years at that location, I had over 50 fruit trees, garden beds, pond I hand-dug, meat rabbits, quail for meat and eggs, and three pet chickens that "poop breakfast ". I had two worm farms, was growing in greenstalks, and was composing with woodchips and manure in my pathways and under the animals. In August of 2024, I moved to southern Oregon to a property of almost 70 acres where a small, already planted garden awaited me, as well as seversl mature fruit trees and an abundance of wild-forageable foods in the forest. I will expand the garden area before planting for summer, and I am now in the process of planning a real food forest among and within a real forest. I also plan to have a high tunnel to grow trees and other plants my climate is on the edge for right now.

Such a great gardening story! You really did a lot at your last place, but even more you can do with your new place! So awesome!

Oh, I'm so glad you included the part where the police investigated your rooftop garden! That's my favorite part! 😂😂 Did you see me mention that on Wendi Phan's live the other day? 😊

I missed that, I was in and out while I was working. That was a very funny incident, I told them they had to try a pepper if they went up there. They laughed and got out of there as fast as they could…lol 😂
