Disagree, the Seiko is half the price, bracelet (variable quality I know), day complication, movement can be serviced, and regulated almost anywhere. Now if you’re talking of the previous Khaki auto with the 2824-2 movement the Hamilton wins on servicing and smooth sweep etc. 80hrs reserve isn’t really a thing is it? So you wear your watch mon to Friday and wear something nicer on the weekend and put it back on Monday without having to go to the strenuous and very difficult task of re setting again on Monday……….so the weekend watch has to have a 120hr reserve otherwise you have the monumental chore of setting that every weekend! Looks like you’ll be wearing an Oris on the weekend, and the Hamilton on the week. Hmmm……….

Had the Hamilton Khaki 38 Auto. Sold it. Now have an SRPG27. For my 7” wrist, the 38mm Hamilton Khaki wears way to small. However, thanks to its ridiculously long lugs, the 42mm is ghastly. The 40mm SRPG27 is far better proportioned for average wrist sizes. If you have small wrists, the 38mm Khaki will fit you better. If you have huge wrists, the 42mm Khaki will fit better. But for those of us with 7-7.5” wrists, the 40mm SRPG27 is the sweet spot.

I love these video's of yours. The combination of history, the editing, the pleasant voice-over and the enthusiasm are stellar. Appreciate you making these. Here, I also give the nod to the Hammie because of the sapphire. In all fairness, the previous Seiko 5 BigMil also started at an MRSP of 200 Euro's, and Seiko's sink in price. That said, they did indeed cock up the design of the Seiko by making it super thick. That even turned me off the modern 1959 Alpinist. As far as history goes, Hamilton / Buren / Heuer were also working together on the 1969 race towards the first automatic chronograph, which pitted them against Zenith and Seiko respectively. The photo finish that this resulted in still causes debate over who actually delivered the first automatic chronograph. Hamilton was also behind the Pulsar, the first LED quartz watch, worn by presidents, hobnobs and famous folks alike, and which sparked the 1970's LED watch craze. I'm an enormous Seiko fanboi, but they really need to shave 2mm off those Seiko's and pop a sapphire crystal on there. 11mm for a field watch, like the old SNZG11J1 I had, is fantastic, but 13mm for a simple three hander is poppycock.

@tiagodvt3 жыл бұрын
@@varanid9 Same..I think that it is in the minds of people. It is good to have a sapphire crystal of course, but not having one wouldn't stop me from buying a watch if I liked everything else. I feel the same way about people replacing perfectly good mineral crystals out the box - I mean, if it ain't broke...one could simply wait for it to scratch (if it ever did!) to replace it. Visually, just like you, I see no difference and I own both types. I think that would depend more on the type of anti reflective coating, not on the type of crystal. Well, about the watches compared on this video...they are simply not comparable quality and price wise, of course. They are similar in the fact that they are both field watches and have some similarities in terms of design - that's it. I like them both nonetheless. The Seiko is great at half the price of the Hamilton. If one could spend more, I'd avise to get the Hamilton (but I know that 200bucks is a lot of money for a lot of people), so there's a market for the two - no doubt.

@@tiagodvt I've never owned a Hamilton, but I've had a few other Swiss watches in the $2,000-ish range and, honestly, I find Seikos compare well against them. Sure, Seikos exhibit less attention to detail, but, a lot of the differences seem more a product of an almost alien mind set than true qualitative differences. My Marinemaster has better fit and finish than my Omega Seamaster Coax has or either of my Rolexes had. Yet, it doesn't even come regulated from the factory. Different priorities reflecting a different culture. I almost consider my Seiko collection as a separate thing from my watch collection.

It’s the Hamilton for me at this price point! I use my Hamilton Khaki Navy GMT as my pilots watch and travel watch all the time and have done for the 5 years I’ve owned it. It’s so legible, accurate and rugged yet I can wear it with anything from Jeans/shorts and t shirt to lounge suit.

I have wore this exact Seiko SRPG for about a year and a half solid. My two biggest gripes are the hardlex crystal and the power reserve. If this is a field watch, and for what this watch costs, there is no reason it shouldn't have a sapphire crystal. I'm pretty careful with my watches for the most part and I still picked up some scuffs on this hardlex that bug me. I ordered the 42mm version of the Hamilton on bracelet, so cannot wait for that to arrive this week!

How have they compared ?
@steffenaarsnes80663 жыл бұрын
How is this a fair comparison though? According to the prices when introducing the watches in the video the Hamilton is over twice the price of the Seiko ($300 more) and closer to $600 rather than below the $500 mark as is the premise of the video.

So you’re comparing the street price to the MSRP of the Seiko? Try street price to street price, the Ham is back to being pretty close to about twice as much and the original argument stands.
@Pori93923 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. Essentially the Hamilton is twice the price of the Seiko.
@runningawayvagabond58763 жыл бұрын
@Epigmenio Vazquez Well, you just confirmed the OP's position. You can get the new Seiko field for in the $200's US funds. So your Hamilton cost close to twice what the Seiko does.

Seiko is now selling for just over $200, can't find the Hamilton for under $400. To me, that definitely changes things for me.

Update: I just got an srpg29 on valentine day sale for $192. It's the bracelet blue dial version. My first impressions are that while if you are expecting a small field watch, you will be disappointed, it's still not a "big watch" ...by today's standards at least . I have 6.75 inch wrist and it's a chunky definitely, and I would prefer smaller, but All in all, wears fine on me. I did take it off the bracelet, but it was much nicer than expected. I just don't like bracelet style in general. I only got bracelet version for applied numbers and nicer dial. I previously had a snk809, I found it too small all the way around. I have handled the Hamilton before and agree it's worth $100 more. If I found it for $300, I might have gotten it instead ($200-$300 was my target budget). I am saving up for a $1k plus watch, so didn't want to put more out than selling my current sport and dress watches this is replacing would net. I intend to keep this for a year or so til that purchase, but if I was looking more long term, I think the Hamilton would be a better choice. That said, I think this is a great deal at $200. Been wearing for 48 hours now, and it's only gained 3-4 seconds.

Same here, running +3 and looks solid as a rock. Has a hint of vintage and hint of sinn in the right light. I love it. Cheap but very well done. Paid $178 on a bracelet brand new, bargain of the century. The bracelet works great.

I agree on the AR. I don't mind the crown as I love winding it, even if I don't need too 🤦♂️ If you think the lume is bad on the Hammy, wait until you see the Seiko!!! 😂😂 Thank you Joe, Best regards, TGV

I sold my Tudor BB58 because I didn’t like the feel of it when winding the watch. The outside edge of the crown is difficult to grip. The Ergonomics of the crown are surprisingly important. That “Hami” looks like a winner to me. 👍🏽

I wear my Khaki daily even while working on my car. Its scuffed, scratched, and dinged. The accuracy is shocking. Barely +1 sec. per day over a month on the wrist!

At this point in time I’m looking at the Seiko for about 275€ and the Hamilton for 745€. Honestly I’ve been looking at the Hamilton for the last couple of weeks and would love to get it and I like it more then the Seiko that’s for sure. But I’m not sure if it’s worth 500€ more for me personally so I’m really questioning which one to get rn

Great video! I have both. Literally wore the strap off the Hammy and put a NATO on. Honestly, I should've got the 38. Big crown works great, but sometimes it snags on cuffs. Also, the movement needed servicing so the Seiko slotted in and I never looked back. Ended up buying a few more 5s on diff colors. Both watches dress up or down well - perfect for daily wear. Love Hamilton, but i think I'm going to only get hand wound Hammies from now on.

Just got me the SPRG33 as my work watch. I do like the Hamiltons but I just don't have the hearth to spend money on something I will thrash around while working. As a matter of fact I do work on the railroad and had no idea about the Hamilton tie (pun intended :) to railroading. I might get me a mechanical pair somewhere down the road.

Firstly thanks for your very informative review. I have actually bought a Hamilton H70455533 from First class watches in the UK. The watch is really very good in all aspects. I have the 38mm model. I’m absolutely chuffed to bit with it. It still amazes me how an automatic watch can keep such accurate time. I’m in the Uk and enjoy your videos very much.

I already moved on from Seiko. No more Seiko for me. Quality control (misaligned bezel, etc.) have been excruciatingly painful; never mind you're paying 4 digits for a Seiko, you will still find annoying quality control issues. I have replaced Seiko with independent watch maker (using Seiko NH movements) for quite a while and I have burned the bridge behind me. I've been happy so far. Hamilton, on the other hand, have been constantly maintaining their quality and quite persistent in offering exceptional value proposition. I'm with Hamilton. I'm done with Seiko. Excellent video and analysis! Thank you and keep up the good work!

I'm a little late in watching this video, but it came a good time for me. I had been considering Khaki Field Auto for quite some time, and I recently discovered the SRPG27. After watching the video I was convinced to go with the KFA, primarily because of the thickness of the Seiko. I was hoping to try one on my wrist, but the local dealer in my area didn't have one in stock. I stumbled on the Seiko that I had dismissed, and I tried it on for the heck of it. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it fit me... so much so that I bought it. I agree with your comments that the Seiko misses some of the marks for a true field watch, but that's not what I was looking for (I have a Timex Expedition Mechanical that fits the bill). I was looking for a GADA watch with numerals on a bracelet that didn't cost too much. At
