USDA beginning farmer program is poorly titled. I am a military veteran with good credit and sufficient income. I called them to obtain farm land and they said unless I have a 3 year profit history of farming, then they can't help me. How in the hell do you begin if you need a 3 year profit history from an operational farm?
@hitastes3 жыл бұрын
I was asked to put in a complete application after I noted facts on the farm bill. The three year prior history I was asked put an n/a They expect us to know info we shouldn’t so please don’t give up. As I understand all of that is waived for vets.

I got out in 98. I just recently bought land 1.33 acres. Contacted someone from the USDA and score about becoming a small farmer. They said I had to be just out of the military. So these programs say they help veterans but not all veterans. That the problem with veteran programs the requirements are ridiculous or it only caterer's to a certain group. I mean that's the is the reason why I bought the property.

My husband was a Veteran but he died. Now me and my son want to go into small farming and ranching. Do we have to be veterans to apply for this guidance and financial help. Also I shave worked with veterans and their families for over 10 years through Tri-Care/Tri-West. I am about to retire from psychology and counseling. This is what I would like to do until I can’t think of another thing to do.

I was told that a Veteran can only use their $0 down payment VA loan if the property they are purchasing is Not Income Producing? Is this correct? I have several Vets who grew up on the farm and after getting out of the military tried to purchase a commercial poultry farm, but the down payments were between 10% and 20% and most commercial poultry farms are priced over $1 Mil.

Question: What if I am looking to purchase 40 acres of new land in order to plant new almonds, grapes or any kind of crop. Does the farmer only begin payments once the 1st crop comes in a couple years down the road OR do payments begin right away and right out of the gate?

Thank you so much, Colonel! I poked around for more info on this program, but my initial assessment is that us "older" vets may be out of luck. Unless I am missing something, being out of the military for more than 20 years now makes me no longer eligible. Will you please tell me I am wrong?

how do you decide how much land you need to grow your vegetables?
@hulseyheritagefarms6947 жыл бұрын
Anthony Gjolaj I guess it would depend on how much you want to grow. You can do a lot with a small place, but I would buy the most land you can afford.

@fleetfootedtexan I hear people say that their are people making lots of money like that. It's like a unicorn I dont know anyone, and my wife is a CPA that sees a lot of finances in the area and not one is making money off small acreage. But maybe I dont know anything.
@BobLoblaw233 жыл бұрын
@@Jeremybaland yea, six figures on a quarter acreage is kinda nutty. Unless they’re growing gold nuggets.

im a veteran,,, im do bee keeping as a hobby, and id like to know is there grant money i can qualify for to turn it into an income business , and or where would i go to find that information
@diyoregonnowtexas92026 жыл бұрын
war dawg, I'm a bee keeper also and got one of these USDA farm loans. I got wiped out by mites and cant make my farm loan payment. Now they want to foreclose on my loan and confiscate everything I have, truck, trailers, boat, tools. I know four other bee keepers who had the same situation and had to get lawyers to try and prevent the USDA from taking their houses. Their lives are ruined. This program is nothing more than a loan with interest and you sign a contract agreeing to it. The USDA farm loan managers job is to loan out as much money from the farm bill as possible, but just remember, it is also their job to COLLECT that money back from you plus interest and they WILL collect at any cost including taking every last thing you own. If you end up bankrupt and homeless, they don't give a DAM. They only care that the US Government gets paid plus interest. They will smile and shake your hand to give you the loan, because they LOOK GOOD to their higher supervisors, but be warned, after you sign the contract, the USDA is NOT your friend.

I have been asking NRCS in Ark for help for FOUR years only this last year did anyone come out to my farm and have a look around while leaving he said do not look to hear from us until next year but, if we need to ask you any questions we will call you. It sure is funny how the appointed person over the office has ALL the perks NRSC can offer on his land. Its all rigged and on the buddy system.
