To reiterate the Professor's last point, the meat industry involves the generation of huge amounts of CO2 as well as the even more potent greenhouse gas methane (via emissions from cattle farming - to produce milk and beef). Plus the other significant environmental effects of modern industrial farming practices. George Monbiot regularly covers these and related issues in his Guardian newspaper column for anyone interested.

Oh my goodness me. الحمدلله… I’ve been vegetarian for 15 years and vegan for 5 years and finally a Muslim scholar is talking about the cruelty of the meat industry. Go vegan. Please. For your body, for the animals and for the planet. 🌱♥️

The dogs were very supportive of this fatwa and applauded at the end 15:26. I had just entered my garage and opened the door when I heard that, and thought a dog had entered my garage, I got scared and closed the door :)

What if meat is slaughtered without saying bismillah, no name was pronounced during the time of slaughter? Can you still eat it as long an you say bismillah before eating it?

1) Salam Dr. In this video, you mentioned how according to surah Maida we can eat the meat of Jews and Christians as they are from the the Al- Kitab. However, you said if you don’t know if they slaughtered correctly, you can just say Bismillah and eat it. But my concern is, you mentioned how slaughtering In a specific way is important. But you didn’t mention in your video the importance of saying Allahs name at the time of slaughtering?I’ve had this concern for a very long time that how is saying bismillah going to make your food Halal if you simply don’t know? I’m sorry Dr, I got a little confused watching this video & would love to have you reply. 2) Also, in your other video you mentioned that if a women prays (namaz) on her period, you can’t say it won’t be accepted or will be accepted. Although, this may make sense, but aren’t women committing a sin by praying fard prayer during menstruation? As it is clearly mentioned in various authentic hadiths. And in the Quran it is clearly mentioned that during menstruation avoid sexual inter course as it is not purer for them. Please explain me scholar, I would highly appreciate if you take some time out and reply back. I understand you must be easy. I hope you find this in good health. P.s talk about hijab & modest fashion in your videos aswell! I did read parts of your book and your 5 hour analysis, but these small videos are a lot more helpful! Thankyou :)

No amount of scholars can convince me that by just saying Bismillah when eating meat of animal which wasn't slaughtered according to the Islamic ruling will be halal. I hear many people in the west say that you can buy meat or chicken and just say Bismillah whereas it is clearly says in the Quran, do not eat any meat that the name of Allah has not been mentioned when slaughtering. If not then what would be the difference between halal and Haram meat.

Regarding the slaughtering, what if its done by atheist or agnostics? I know in the US meat is slaughtered by cutting the neck and draining the blood, but I doubt a christian would be doing ut all the time, but we can safely say it is not dedicated to any other God. I would think this is fine as long as you say Bismillah.

Professor Johnathan Brown is challenging Professor Abou El Fadl in a lecture titled "did premodern muslim scholars consider slavery evil?" From 5mins 30sec in which essentially Prof Brown is saying Prof Fadl is wrong in quoting Qadi Abd al Jabbar from the Shafi'i school of law saying that slavery, is kubun fi zatihi, that it is inherintly immoral and evil in and of itself. Brown says he has searched the books and cannot find this statement and found a statement of Qadi Abd al Jabbar saying slavery is husn because god commands it and allows it in the quran. There is a tension between what these two scholars hold to be the traditional scholarly position on slavery, however, this has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of the video regarding Halal meat.
