I have a great idea for creating a "line city"... Connect two places with a train or something, which is very linear, and then develop neighborhoods around the stations along this "line". And we could go further; instead of one line, we could do multiple lines, like a multi-line city, with lines going all over and connecting to each other, and maybe we could go even further with circles and more!

In Dune, the Baron Harkonan's capital city is a gigantic cube. The top surface is gardens and mansions for the people who are rich and loyal. All other citizens live inside the cube, a gigantic prison of steel with terrible conditions. It's designed to be hell, and that's what this reminds me of.

The thing that gets me is the walls. They're not only unnecesary, they go super far into making it feel like you're living in a scifi dystopia. @@rinothename5563 It's simple. Doesn't matter what we're planning, how much it costs or in what country... ''AI will make it better'' It's a PR slogan you can basically put at the end of everything because the average person has no idea what AI actually means or is currently capable of. You can see this concept working at the 2021 Tesla conference where Elon suggested that he would have fully functioning, humanlike, AI robots to help humanity with almost any task by the end of 2025... the fact that AI is miles away from such a fantasy ontop of the fact that Elon literally just had a guy in a spandex suit on stage pretending to be a robot... is not of importance to the average person, all they hear is AI and that's as far as they'll think about it. The fact that virtually every AI expert who isn't on the Tesla payroll publicly mocked Elon for his suggestion isn't heard or understood by the average audience member and as such holds no value when it comes to PR Elon also used the AI supported phrase when talking about life on Mars... how will we make it possible? wiTH tHe hElP oF Ai because AI is basically Jesus and god combined

As a resident of Brasilia: it's a lovely city, but its design is super flawed in mant ways. The modernist archtecture does have charm, but its not enough really. Every real city was built out of necessity to utilize some natural resource, and always in stages as the population grew and attracted more people wanting to settle down. Some billionaire coming along and plopping down the 100 billion necessary to make what we think of as a modern city, to rescue rural America from decline for example, is a sad fantasy. No one would even come to live there without a real incentive.

Not /quite/ every real city. There are a few that originated as company towns. Generally this happened when there was a business that required a huge number of employees, back before mechanisation - thousands of people to work in a mine or something like that. In such cases the business owner might build their own town to house the workers. These were known as 'company towns' and generally did not make for a pleasant place to live. As a single company owned every plot of land, they had a monopoly - there was only one company to rent a house from, only one company to buy food from, only one company to buy anything else from. They charged prices accordingly. They also made that housing only available to company employees - so if you lost your job you also lost your house and had no choice but to leave town entirely, allowing for even greater levels of worker exploitation. But none of these were anywhere close to the proposed scale of the Line.

Edit: if that’s not enough for you, the most dangerous Vex are the Sol divisive, who exhibit religious tendencies. The Fallen attacked humanity for spiritual reasons. Exactly, like seriously. Even if it just had one train line, but it was a circle, it'd be multiple times as efficient in every way. Then of course, it'd s a no brainer to just fill in the circle instead of building upwards for no good reason, add 2-3 more train lines crossing the middle of the circle, have the commercial things at the middle so they are equally close to the edge of the circle. And boom, you have a regular city only by upgrading the original concept.

@19Szabolcs91
@19Szabolcs91 Жыл бұрын
@@adrianthoroughgood1191 There are no benefits of having a super high speed train anyway within a city. There needs to be many stops close to each other so it actuall functions as public transport. Before the train could actually speed up to max, it'd already have to slow down for the next stop. High speed rail only makes sense for travel from one city to another where there is a large distance between stops when the high speed can actually be used.

@adrianthoroughgood1191
@adrianthoroughgood1191 Жыл бұрын
Infrastructure in the suburbs is subsidised by federal grants for building infrastructure. But once it's built the city has to pay to replace it when it wears out. So they build a new suburb with subsidised infrastructure and use the taxes from that for the repairs. It's a giant ponzi scheme.

If you look at Gerrymandered districts, you find that suburbs are located in these deep red / swing districts, if we do away with these subsidies to the affluent suburbs and make them do away with their bans on homes that are not single family homes, and if they allow apartments that usually house voters that are lower income, then this could aid progressives.
