I'm sorry guys, but you don't get the bigger picture. Hard- and software wise the Vision Pro is absolutely capable of much more. It all comes down at creativity. The one thing only creative people can add, programmers will make it, but the basis is creativity. You just talk about the 'the thing' as it is. Like someone who sees a piano for the first time, describers the piano, hears the music that programmers put in to it, but a real creative pianist can get most out of it and than you will be in awe. So, discussing the Vision Pro as being 'just another VR headset' is absurd. It is much more than this. And there is a huge gap between consumer and business wise usage. This part is also missing in you discussion. I'm not an Apple geek, but someone who knows a lot about all kinds of technical innovations since 2003 and know what works and what not. The Vision Pro is a huge leap that outsmarts everything that is out there. If I would use it just as it is 2 weeks after the introduction, I would agree, but try to step out of this narrow minded conclusions that are based on easy targets and understand the bigger picture. To easy to judge by the way you do.

I think something in Meta's favor is that Apple has kinda pulled what usually happens with other companies in reverse and is beijg the first to try doing something that is still fairly experimental, which is a passthrough native interface. The feedback that consumers give on the passthrough and windowed experience of the Vision Pro will be very useful to Meta in seeing where they may find value in pushing things on a future product.
@elstcman57 ай бұрын
yeah, that's an interesting role reversal. Apple is usually NEVER the one to send the "experimental" products to market. In that sense I would love a reality where Apple just started releasing a line of their experiments that don't have the kind of pure product clarity that the Mac and iPhone do. I believe that the Vision Pro had to be released now, and at the same time, isn't ready. Both those statements can be true. The Vision Pro is going to create a lot of market and cultural peneratration is the consumer space, as well as set up a good foundation of OS updates, which will be important in creating the experience they want when they can make something for the masses. If they waited on this, it would likely be too late. Nevertheless, the Vison Pro is inherently flawed in a way that I can't imagine that Apple is completely proud of.

It's currently lacking many features but many of them can be accomplished via software updates which is expected in a 2 week old Gen 1 product. The reason for my return was hardware based which only a next gen product could solve for. The obvious being the comfort. I tried both bands in different positions, a couple light seals but as the days passed, I felt less and less excited about putting it on due to lack of comfort. Secondly, the pass through is not good enough which makes looking at phone and watch notifications very difficult. Too often I had to resort to lifting the VP off my face to see my phone which then disrupts the best comfort fit I finally was able to situate. In the meantime, Apple should mirror all notifications from external devices in the ecosystem even if you can't interact will all. I've seen mixed reviews on this aspect. Many share the same concern while others say it's not a problem for them. Anyways, I think VP has a future and will ultimately follow the same successful path as the Apple Watch and iPad.

I’ve only used the knit band, first try I made it too tight but now I use it pretty loose and it works a lot better and a lot more comfortable. Obviously there are little things here and there that I would like addressed in future software updates but overall it’s pretty amazing.

Honestly I think when Mark is saying Meta is "open player" it's just communicating poorly. I believe it's more of a comparative note. There's no hardware data connections for the Apple Vision pro (outside of the dev kit), so you can't sideload, and you can't wire it up for PCVR, AVP doesn't seem to have compatibility with OpenXR standards. The AVP is not intended to connect to anything at all outside of the Apple ecosystem, where the Quest is capable of operating outside of the Meta ecosystem.
