It is astonishing how much controversy Jesus has stirred up right from the beginning, with no sign of it quieting down either. Others who were really big deals at the time we have forgotten about or only historians and history buffs know about them. Yet this man has torn the world apart after 3 just years of his mission. Of all the people who have ever lived more have heard the name of Jesus than of any other man that has ever walked the Earth.

Actually Christianity didn't really take off before constantin. Before him it was just a not very large religious group like a lot of others, but his wife liked it, and he saw how he could use it politically. So, it was more like 200 years, not 3.

Please leave "proud" to the false religion of the quran. 9:24 "I don't know how to love him." Then Paul's comment, "I don't know why I did that." Very funny, and adds life to a lecture to make it more palatable! Kuffar Legion well, if you think the darkness dark enough for us to have a record of it from antiquity was just dark clouds, then your too far from belief in whatever was recorded in the gospel there. I'll admit, that is one that has even the scholars universally stumped (as far as I know).. but I don't believe it would be there if something didn't happen. Since it happened one day in one City 2000 years ago, I'm not surprised that there wasn't a recorder of history standing around to describe it. There was a witness that told luke (I think it was.. I just woke up lol) and since he's universally accepted as the greatest historian of antiquity.. That works for me. I've seen some crazy things in my life.. But I didn't write them down at the time.. And there's multiple millions that could say the same. It's hard to imagine today with everyone having a recorder in their pocket I know, so think about it back then
@quewillbewillbe
@quewillbewillbe 5 жыл бұрын
Kuffar Legion when my dad was in hospice and dying, which took a week or so, he kept saying that people were visiting him that nobody else saw. The kicker is that everyone he said that came to him was people who had already passed away. He didn't see the pope or any famous people, but it was people like our neighbor who had recently died, who told him not to worry about all the things he was worried about leaving, that they will all work out and that there are no problems like that where he was going. That's just one example. Anyways, I imagine that day in Jerusalem might have been something like that.. people started seeing other people that they knew were dead.. But when they left, that just kind of disappeared. And when they discovered the Graves that were opened because of the earthquake, some of them thought that is why they had seen someone dead walking around. Who knows how it works, but maybe when Christ was getting ready to open that door back from the dead to the living, he let some others through it for a bit. I don't know, but that's not the center of the faith the Lord has given me, it's only something I discovered later and it's not a stumbling block to me.. I hope you don't let it be to you either
@quewillbewillbe
@quewillbewillbe 5 жыл бұрын
Kuffar Legion It's so common of an occurrence that it's in the hospice literature, recognized by the medial professionals that deal with the dying every day.. so yeah, I imagine it happened back then too. It tells you to expect your loved one to see spirits if the DEAD, not their favorite celebrity or some guy from work they saw every day and are just hallucinating. I don't know why you brought up yourself seeing someone when you were hospitalized but that was probably a drug induced hallucination or vivid dream. What's was your point anyway? You wanted to know how people saw dead people after Jesus died and I gave you an example of that type of thing happening even today. You don't want any answers because you think you know or all already. You even think you know why I'm a Christian but you could hardly be more wrong. I didn't think of death at all when the Lord called me, and I tell people about Him because 1. I'm absolutely sure that the Bible is truth and Jesus is alive. 2. It follows that hell is real and I don't want you to go there 3. Our God IS good.. Even wonderful and I experienced his presence and blessings all the time, and grow in wisdom and truth.. so why would anyone keep something like that to themselves?? 3. Jesus tells us to go and share the good news (aka the gospel)!! I seriously doubt that your persistence in unbelief outweighs my reasons for believing.. But that's your problem.. and it is sad. If you're right then we'll both die and that will be it. No gloating.. nothing mattered anyway, but if I were you I'd prepare for the judgement that the Lord tells us about.. And you do that only by having Jesus cover for you. So I recommend hiring the judges son for your lawyer 😉. BTW, I'm done with you. I write this for possibly someone else's benefit at this point. I'm not stupid enough to think you'll suddenly have something nice to say, actually I'm sure you've just got to rip what I've said to shreds, so have at it. I'm not gonna waist my time now but hopefully I've at least planted a seed

People need to remember there's a scripture in the Bible that says, God will not be mocked, so I heard a story about a young lady. She was going out with some men in her car, and her mother said to her, go with God my daughter, and she mocked, and said well if God's going to ride with us, he will have to ride in the trunk, because there's no room inside here with us. Later on while they were driving down the road they had a wreck, and everyone died, but when the police saw the trunk, that he was intact, they marveled when they open the trunk, there was a carton of eggs in the trunk, not one of them were broken. But when we come to examine them, one startling fact confronts us: all of these books relate to a personage concerning whom there does not exist a single scrap of contemporary information -- not one! By accepted tradition he was born in the reign of Augustus, the great literary age of the nation of which he was a subject. In the Augustan age historians flourished; poets, orators, critics and travellers abounded. Yet not one mentions the name of Jesus Christ, much less any incident in his life. - Moncure D. @ I was, at the time I wrote this comment. Some of the things the speaker had said at the time sounded to me, at least, like he was another Dan Brown. I didn't watch the entire presentation. My apologies. I am embarrassed I spoke too soon. Reading the comments that all sounded very Gospel- (Besorah) oriented gave me a good barometric level on what the ideology of the presentation was about. I can't say I remember what it was he said that made me believe he was more of the all-too-popular view that had to believe Jesus/Y'shua had sex with Mary of Magdala and pass his seed on to future generations, which is something I definitely do not subscribe to. He had every right to marry and have kids to pass on his seed, but that was not the reason he came. Sorry for any mix up. Sometimes I react too quickly, especially when it has to do things I am passionate about, and the many sites featuring peanut gallery leaders that love to pervert the truth. I have become cynical, I suppose. I will probably delete my other comments here. I had long forgotten even visiting this site.

@ LOL.That it is in the spiritual/cultural/political climate we live in, and especially one in which there is a hotbed of hatred toward a president that broke all kinds of records for good simply because he had the audacity to contest a fraudulent election. I might be showing my age, but when I grew up and went to school, we did NOT disrespect a sitting president and try to have him/her removed! We never got to enjoy one day without the "liberals" spewing hatred against DJT and making plans to have him removed all without success (that is why I believe God put this man in office). They hate him not because he poses a threat to Democracy; they hate him because he exposes them. He has them at a checkmate, and they cannot move any which way without being seen. Darkness hates the Light. These people want to continue with the corruption that has enriched them their entire careers. I am cautiously optimistic in light of all the evidence they have found - many say they don't have enough, but does a poker player ever tip his hand? I think big things are going to be happening. So I am praying that we get to have this remarkable man for another four years. The Democratic party collectively are everything that God hates: Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Yep, the Demoncraptic party possess these features in abundance! Evidence for Christ. I'm astounded at how much information is presented here. Archaeology, Geography, Inscriptions, Stones, and despite the amount of loss suffered by fire and destruction these things exist still. We can't have the Libraries of Alexandria or Egypt back, but the First Century is yet beautifully elaborated on in discovery all the way to the end of the 20th century and beyond. William Craig Lane says it so clearly, and I'll not forget his debate with Christopher Hitchens. He invites the athiest scholar to accept Jesus somewhere in the dialogue. How Love Peace Patience, Kindness, Meekness, Longsuffering, Temperance, and Self Control exert themselves. Incredible character this Josephus, and all should pay close attention to this talk.

Is that debate with Craig were Hitchens made him look and sound the ignorant, mendacious scientifically ignoramous con man that Craig is?. Every Christian apologist, professional proselytising evangelical fundamentalist attempt of trying to argue their claimed God into existence has ended up with their argument being thoroughly discreditted, if their claimed God was real and evidenced to exist by anyone it would be common knowledge, the person proving that God to exist would be worlddamous, indeed they would be the most celebrated person toha e walked the earth, there would be no believers in the Abrahamic God because the proof would be there that was irrefutable, undeniable, indisputable empirical unfalsifiable and conclusive, and there would be no unbelievers of that God existing, 6,000 plus years of trying to argue it into existence and further away today than on day one. I’m trying to give him some slack, but I need to go back and research. Revelation would have been in Johns lifetime, as would be first hand accounts. Is the discrepancy owed to more mass transcription and dissemination? Anyway, if that’s all we have to quibble with Meier over, I’ll give him a break. Would be nice to ask him about this, though.

I'm working on getting all of Maier's books. I didn't know what he was about when I got his Josephus about five years ago. I'd started Bible study again. And then his Eusebius. I forget where I saw his Pontius Pilate but I'm halfway through that. I've got 4 of his other novels. I struggle with my faith. But I'm wondering if someone can explain the sense of peace I get when I sit down and crack the Bible. For good or ill I spend most of my time on radical Islamic issues, which get me good and pissed off. When I finally sit down to the Bible study it's like a calm comes over me and almost like someone whispering in my ear, "this is where you're supposed to be. This is what you should be doing". Plus the added bonus of knowing which is "good" and which is "evil". I see Islam all over the scriptures. Especially when it talks of Christian martyrs and Revelation 20:4. I sometimes wonder if the Antichrist isn't so much a person as an ideology.

Tertullian says that about Pilate, in his Apology, approximately end of chapter 21. I wouldn't call what Tertullian says a legend. "But He spent forty days with some of His disciples down in Galilee, a region of Judaea, instructing them in the doctrines they were to teach to others. Thereafter, having given them commission to preach the gospel through the world, He was encompassed with a cloud and taken up to heaven, - a fact more certain far than the assertions of your Proculi concerning Romulus. All these things Pilate did to Christ; and now in fact a Christian in his own convictions, he sent word of Him to the reigning Caesar, who was at the time Tiberius. Yes, and the Caesars too would have believed on Christ, if either the Caesars had not been necessary for the world, or if Christians could have been Caesars. "

The people and places he mentions are already well known and it reflects badly on his admirers on this forum that they are impressed by him. As for his mention of the evidence for Jesus in Josephus, I bought a copy of Josephus to see for myself and it is so obviously an addition by somebody else I am amazed that anyone can believe it. On just one eight of a page he talks about Jesus saying "He was the Christ". He then goes on ( on a full page )to relate a story about a woman tricked into sleeping with a wealthy Roman. Agimaso Schandir actually all serious sceptical scholars all agree that Jesus was a preacher, he was crucified, the apostles and others truly believed they met, talked with and touched the resurrected Jesus multiple times, and the apostles had the basic Christian beliefs fully in place orally within days of the ascension and these were fully written down within 2 years of the crucifixion. This is exactly the same as what Christians believe except that Christians believe Jesus was truly resurrected. Sceptical scholars have given up on all theories to explain this 'belief" and now rely on the hypothesis that the disciples all must have had the same mass hallucinations together multiple times. It is the only theory they have to fit the facts - the problem is that all medical evidence and psychological evidence flatly refutes this hypothesis. So the initial comment is actually true. All historical and archaeological evidence shows that Jesus was real, he was crucified and he rose again.

In part because of the siren voices in the books that this speaker comments on, I wandered away from nominal Christianity into agnosticism, atheism, gnosticism and New Age paganism, neo-buddhism, wicca, goddess worship, astrology and tarot. Then, researching Islam I was so horrified at its portrayal of Jesus that I hurtled back out of a fog of eclecticism to the Gospels. Whereupon I found Christ afresh. I will always be grateful that he accepted me on my return. #Maranatha

Jesus was in the tomb for 3 days and 3 nights, not Friday to Sunday You caa't get the Jonah prophecy by ignoring this error. John helps us out by telling us it was a High Sabbath day not the weekly Sabbath. There are 2 camps on this one says Jesus died Wednesday others say Thursday. Friday is not possible for even a 1st grade student. Remember when the sun went down on Wednesday it was Thursday. Joh_19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
@yahkinsb.1319
@yahkinsb.1319 5 жыл бұрын
"An High day" is a annual holy day that coincides with the weekly Sabbath. Passover was the name of the week long spring festival. You can look into this Jewish expression as I have. The first Holy day of the festival commemorated their exodus from Egyptian slavery and was consecrated (no servile work)... this occurred a day after the Passover meal, and coincided with the weekly sabbath that year. Jesus also said of Himself , "He will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will flog Him and kill Him, and ON the third day He will rise again.” Luke 18:32 This prediction of Jesus differs from the Jonah analogy of exactly 3 days and nights; indicating that the emphasis of His prediction is to be compared to Jonah's virtual death and deliverance, and not necessarily having stop watch accuracy of elapsed time. His proof of Messiah-ship is in His death and resurrection, like Jonah, and not in the span of minutes between the two events. Interestingly, Jesus always included His suffering at the hands of the (Jewish and Roman) authorities in the world with His prediction. Often referred to as His passion which began in Gethsemane with agonizing blood sweating prayer, after observing the Passover. John emphasizes the beginning of evil's reign when Judas determines to betray Jesus.... " As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night. " John 13:30 Later at the arrest, Jesus confirms this again, Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour-when darkness reigns.” Luke 22:53 Theologically we understand that this was God's will in allowing His Son to suffer under the Dark powers and authorities....Just as Jonah experienced darkness and abandonment in belly of the fish, "You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight..." Jonah 2 My point here is that elapsed time isn't the emphasis of His messiah-ship, but rather His suffering and death in our behalf ! My second point is John's strange placement of the sentence "And it was night" is relevant to the narrative... The first sleepless night in anguish to the point of death , the hour of darkness came...even the sun was blotted out on the cross signifying His being forsaken by The Father. Thus, if one insists on exacting 'AFTER 3 days and 3 nights'.....even though Jesus said elsewhere ' ON the third day He'd rise' .....we can review using John's description when the first night began... Thurs night the time of darkness reign and Christ's passion ......Friday daylight period ,,,,Fri night , sat. daylight/night,and then..... "Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb....." Mark 16:2 This passage is in all extant manuscripts and is incontrovertible! That's 3 nights, and on the third day He is raised, just like Jesus said in Luke 18! Even Later that Sunday. the two on the road to Emmaus said to the stranger, " ..The chief priests and our rulers handed Jesus over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that He was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, IT IS THE THIRD DAY since all this took place. " So even according to these eye-witnessing Jews understanding of the days elapsed,..That Sunday, the 1st day of week...was the third Day! \ Not 7th day Sabbatarian Eisegesis.....Rather let us believe scripture.... 1st Day sunrise Exegesis!

Historians agree that the gospels (written in Greek, by unknown authors, from 70 to 140CE) portray Jesus as famous far and wide, a prophet and healer, with great multitudes of people who knew about him, including the greatest Jewish high priests and the Roman authorities of the area, and not one person records his existence during his lifetime? If the poor, the rich, the rulers, the highest priests, and the scribes knew about Jesus, who would not have heard of him? Amazingly, we have not one Jewish, Greek, or Roman writer, even those who lived in the Middle East, much less anywhere else on the earth, whoever mention him during his supposed life time. This appears quite extraordinary, and you will find few Christian apologists who dare mention this embarrassing fact. All myth! Seek the truth!

Josephus is the most interest.and one Slavianic version (easily to find in commentaries) that confirms the rebellious nature of that time and reason for crucifixion(many passages in Acts also); the "introduced" words into Josephus later are easily identified but the original is known! Romans crucified only slaves and rebels in order to "teach" the rest a lesson (Gr."lestei"in (Matth.,Mk and John) means not a simple criminal (only in Lk); modern translations are more correct than traditional ones. The earliest written source are St.Paul's letters, Acts and Hebrew; the one written (!) the earliest is the notice on the cross:"King of Jews" as the official Cesar's accusation for Jesus' crime. The title has never been used by Christians! But contrary to Lecturer's view J.DominicCrossan is more reliable then he thinks; read his polemic with R.E.Brown, a member of Paul vi Biblical Commission, (his classic The Death of the Messiah or The Birth of the Messiah) on Passion narratives, the earliest in Gospels about Jesus.

If you're reading the King James Bible that would be a Bible that was edited by a king for social and political agenda by the way the authorized word has to do with it being the only Bible being allowed to be read but punishment of jail or death

What a coincidence that he mentioned "Jesus Chirst Superstar". I just watched a short clip of it a few days ago, as I was curious about it having the dude from Korn in it. It was absolutely terrible.

🌿I am getting the word out... (This video). "Oh yes, I am!" Side 🎵: Puzzling how so-called 'logical' and 'pragmatic' people who PRIDE themselves on 'not believing anything they cannot see,' and yet... when there's an archaeological find that you CAN SEE, AND TOUCH...their standards of 'proof' suddenly go 'poof' into thin air. You wanna talk about 'La La Land'?! Elise, aka Godgirl

What exactly is it that 'logical and pragmatic people' don't believe? As I have stated elsewhere on this forum, these things that Maier is talking about are already well known and believed by most knowledgeable people, even atheists. Maier is a professional writer speaking to a bunch of gullible potential customers. I bet there were stacks of his books for sale at the back of the room.

@Coach Tony Paul I don't just "..listen without judgement" I study the available evidence myself. A good example of his dishonesty is the reference to the mention of Jesus in the works of Josephus. If you go and read this for yourself it will be apparent to you it was added later by someone else. This addition has already been proven by reputable historians. I bought a copy of The Complete Works of Josephus just to read this famous reference for myself. To illustrate how unbiased I am, the copy I bought has commentary by Paul L Maier , I wanted to see what he thought about it, this was of course before watching the above video. Go and check the book out for yourself.

I love this guy! He is so funny and tells it like it is!! Love it! It's so sad that the world at large (Non believers of course) push and stretch and twist any and everything they can to try and attack the bible and it's claims. Fruitlessly EVERY time! I've been looking at evidences and finds all of my life and I am firmly a believer even after trying for many years to walk in the worlds ways of "Nowhere". Christ becomes more and more alive in my heart and mind soul spirit etc as I search for the truth and has revealed Himself to me in so many ways I can't begin to tell. (I know Crazy right??!! LOL).

the natives knew the Lord's name long before we got here. Iowa= YHVH. "Ee-aa-oo-aa." Yahuah. The vav more often than not is pronounced as a "u" or "w" sound. When modern hebrew came along, they added the vowel mark at the end changing the sound at the end to "way" but the simple paleo hebrew spelled it out Yahwah. I find it interesting that this presentation takes place at Iowa state.

@@yuflangpu8368 Yahwah is based on the english transliteration of the tetragrammaton in paleo hebrew before the masoretic vowel markings. Many native tribes believe themselves that this is the case, and that their ancestors are of the lost 10 tribes of Israel. If you do your research on the subject I'M TALKING ABOUT, you'll see that this is the case. Im not saying there's no argument to the contrary. It makes sense to me. I don't know why you're so mad 😠but I'm pretty sure that arguing with you would be a masturbatory excercise as you've demonstrated that you're a disrespectful brat who MUST have it your way and MUST be right. The kind who watches a video about something and decides they are an authority. Perhaps had you approached me like a human we could've had a civilized debate.

@@whatistruth8690 yup, Talmudic jews would have us believe it's blasphemy to utter the name at all. There is plenty scriptural evidence to the contrary, that we should know his name, declare it, and publish it. But based on a single verse where the hebrew is sorely and purposely mistranslated the jewish elders of the Sanhedron are trying to keep the Holy Name to themselves, as though God were for them only. After all, the Babylonian Talmud states that the Gentile exists ONLY to provide service to the Jew. That the soul of the Jew is higher than the Gentile. Comparatively like the difference between the soul of the Gentile and a donkey, such, they believe is the difference between the soul of the Jew and the Gentile.

Would love to see a debate between Paul Maier and Robert M. Price. Price is as knowledgeable of the. field of New Testament studies as Maier, but is a mythicist, i.e. he does not believe that there is evidence of a historical Jesus.
