I think you're kinda misstating his post-RBW remarks. As far as I heard, he said that he was likely not going to be participating in any lengthy (several-week long) tourneys in AoE4, but that he still likes the game and will occasionally stream it, play team tourneys, and shorter tourneys. He just prefers to focus on competitive AoE2.

especially when aoe2 queues are crap. Jordan got sick. Songsong signed off and he found aoe4 had some players around, That being said, just as he was in RBWL, is more or less clueless about the aoe4 meta. He just uses basic and theoretical knowledge and a lot of micro.

@@niki8280 I'm a long-time AoE2 fan. I've been watching the comp seen for more than 15 years. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Having said that, I'm rooting for AoE4's competitive scene and am really hoping to see more of my favorite AoE2 players get involved. The game had a rough start... Hot keys, unbalanced civs were avoidable mistakes, but the game is in a good place right now (just needs better map design!). I hope Hera, Daut, Jordan, Nili, and others give it another shot.

@@MattSmith-il4tc they already did. Hera and Viper started this year playing aoe4. They both won one S-tier tournament there while Liereyy was in the military. Then viper made the semis in n4c or some other aoe4 tpurney even though he had just shifted from an aoe2 tourney a week before. Tati, daut, accm, yo, vivi played it half seriously. That's why none of the big three won S-tier tournaments in aoe2 in 2022. They all came back halfway through the year and had to reacclimate. Viper visibly struggled with hotkeys and tendencies went he came back. We're all mostly showing support. We watched and cheered aoe4's part of rbwl. I barely ubserstand it but we do our part.

Viper needs to focus on AoE4 if he want to remain a progamer. It will be the same story as it was with Starcraft, the most hardcore fanbase will stick with AoE2, but there will be much more attention, audience, updates, turnaments and just much more of everything for AoE4.

If viper one based it and just spammed archers and sipahi in the feudal age, I say good luck holding that as the Malians. Javelin Throwers are good in low numbers. Once you get 30+ archers they become largely irrelevant. You kill any spears so quickly and then the sipahi get on top of the Javelin Throwers and there's not much you can do. What viper did was fine but off meta.

Siege mechanics and water are lackluster but at least viable army comps are somewhat realistic compared to AoE2. If I want to play AoE i'll play 4 over any other.

WTF Malians are so strong if you can survive the first 20 minutes, and I expect they will be S+++ tier in 2vs2 if you can get your partner to protect you in early game to allow you to build up that trade, particularly for maps where you spawn close to your teammate

I can't really blame Viper for focusing his competitive efforts on AoE4. The competition is fierce as in AoE2, playing both games on the highest level is near impossible. But he stated that he will play AoE4 occasionally. Also can't blame him for doing it off stream, as parts of his "community" (as AoE2 in general) is still toxic towards the game purely based on its existence and the fact its not exactly the same as AoE2 or similar, non-sensical "reasons". But since his livelyhood is based on streaming, he has to stream what is audience likes, or he will lose their support and therefore money.
