It is interesting the differing playstyles of a pro and a casual on a mission like this. It is actually pretty easy to defend and attack on this mission with minimal units/losses but that doesn't seem to be your style. You tend to play against the AI like you would a human, eg crushing them into hopeless oblivion with no chance of comeback.

Yeah, the docks all give resources when you destroy them. There's a lot of recorded dialogue about the docks being destroyed. I've never tried to complete this scen by directly besieging Constantinople (Though of course you made it look easy!) but instead by transporting units across and destroy the docks. That's probably why many of the buildings you destroyed on the way there didn't give gold - the devs didn't think you could do that as a strategy!

If I remember correctly, just by breaching 1 wall will give you a metric fuck ton of gold. It was until my 6th playthrough of this level that I found the 4.8k gold in the center. But I would usually just recklessly spend gold trying to see the limitations of my expansion, after red and green were destroyed.

It's really not that hard to directly besiege Constantinople, you can just build up your base and attack with a large force, there is enough gold in this scenario to do so.

Its a fun scenario, blue is limited to whatever units he starts and the other two just spit random infantry and some bows. Taking water requires quite a bit of wood, much faster to just land assault it, with a castle near the gates. For info the total they can give is 20K. Once you get over the initial villager shortage things get good.

If by "soon" you mean around 1000+ years, then yes. Constantinople doesn't fall until 1452. This campaign takes place around 445.
