I realize Tamerlane is one of those campaigns like Attila/Genghis Khan which you just decisively defeat one different nation/major force in each scenario, because they were really that badass in history and conquest/beat many nations

As a Turkish I need to say something about this scenario. Tatars and Cumans are Turks too. Even more than anatolian Turks. We talk same language as Turkish. I understand every single word in game such as "odun keser men" ("odun keserim ben" in Anatolian Turkish)means I cut the wood. because they are speaking Turkish too. Tamerlane (Timurlenk in Turkish) is a Tatarian Turkish. So We called that war as "Battle of two Turkic rulers" at past. But Bayezid never begged for his life or escape from a war. Thank you for reading this. There are a few mistake like this but history is complicated to understand so I am not blaming no one. Most of people in anatolia supported Emir Timur because He was more traditional and conservative about a few things and that made sense for Turkomans and beyliks in Anatolia. At least Ottoman Empire lost the battle but lived more more than Timurid Empire.

Aoe2 campaigns are famous for *not* being historically accurate, but it is still a good thing for Microsoft to draw attention to some part of history, which would be less well-known for some community. For example, before the release of Le Loi campaign, I don't even know that (as Chinese) China had actually conquered Vietnam. It is interesting to see Tamerlane as "Turks", as Tamerlane regraded himself as "Mongols"

@@hck4339 It is easy to say he was not a Mongolian. His name Temur is a common name in Turkey and means "Steel" in Turkish. He never speak Mongolian as well. Actually most of steppe rulers tried to prove they are sons of Ghengis Khan. It was a symbol of "Kut". Kut was meaning to be able to rule steppes but Emir Timur never use "Khan" as a title because he was not one of Great Khans son. You can easily search tatars from google. Just to remind that Ottoman Sultan Bayezid was not a pleb. He was fighting a winning besiege in Constantinople. Without Tamerlane's backstab Constantinople would have fallen much sooner. It is not that Bayezid is weak. Just Tamerlane too strong.

Yep. I remember learning about him from a Kings & Generals video. Apparently, he was given some title, which roughly translates to "Bayezid the Thunderbolt". This guy was a freakin fierce and powerful sultan. Had it not been for Amir Timur, the conquest of Constantinople would have gone to Bayezid and not Mehmet. Gotta give credit to Tamerlane though. This guy can defeat empires that were possibly stronger than his own with his brilliant military mind. I'm pretty sure he would have been a master of the Sun Tzu principles. Too bad he was already quite old by 1402, at the time of the Battle of Ankara. Tbh, I consider all the other sultans plebs, except for Bayezid I, Selim I, and Sulieman the Magnificent. Selim and Bayezid could have done a lot more, had they been sultans for a longer period of time.

balkan aux commander was stefan lazarevic. he also got attention of tamerlane during the battle in ankyra. a group of knight were resisting to the unstoppable offence of tamerlane at the ottomant army center and tamerlane asked about those knights coz they were no ordinary ottoman type of cavalry. stefan's knights fought until the inevitable end then took the son of bayezid and broke the tamerlane's army circle and left the field by the order of bayezid. as viper said "such loyalty" :D its also sarcastic that most of the turks and muslims changed side but a christian aux power didnot and fought for a muslim leader until the very end.

Duke Vytaitas of Lithuania helped Tokhtamysh but they were defeated by Timur's generals. I had to search that on wiki after that grim end to the story. Timur and Genghis Khan shared ancestry. Also, Babur, the founder of Mughal Empire, was a descendant of both Timur, father's side, and Genghis Khan, mother's side.

BTW, just for the end of the whole story, the narrator is the Ming emperor, who was the refuge of Tokhtamych Khan, as the latter, after his dire defeat from Tamerlane, he fled to the only direction that could save his head: China. The Ming emperor refused to surrender Tokhtamych and prepared for war with the mighty conqueror, when he learned that Tamerlane died in the Kaukasian mountains during the march to the Great Wall. So, the battle of Ankara was the last for Tamerlane, that's why the campaign ends there. Cheers, friend, see you again in the next video.

No, heavy melee units (Paladins, mostly) are the best counters. SO is great too, but requires huge investment and is not usually done in high level games. As soon as you see the siege rams, it's too late unless you already have SO, which is too big of an investment to make early on in imp.

In reality Bayezid I never escaped from battlefield. He charged into enemy with frustration when he saw battle is lost due to betrayal of tatars and some sipahis. After that he was taken captive.
