Ohh gee. Since viper decided to not make a TC, the trigger that signals the AI to make military units was never activated. Which of course means that he has a clear way to the wonder. I'm always amazed at how he manages to do these things accidentally. Also, there's nothing really particularly interesting about the gold island (other than the reappareance of Ornlu). Once you build a TC, the guy would have told you that this island belongs to the jaguar god (or something like that) and that there a shit ton of gold there, as if there isn't enough gold already on your island.

Yeah, the AI doesn't start building units before then so that it doesn't amass an unstoppable army while you're stuck having to play the "fixed force" bit of it where you can't build an economy. So it only starts making units when you can make units of your own as well, and the devs figured you'd always build a TC at that point so they made that the trigger.

yeah, I boomed on the south island after converting 2 vills. But it was actually more fun. Often if you avoid the trigger, it´s not really a challenge.

@@Stenkrm I actually did it on hard in DE but it took me several tries (guess it would have been easier if I hurried more at the beginning). The idea is to attack the wonder with everything you have and then just send in your ships and skirmishers as "castle bait" while trying to dodge as many shots as possible with the skirms. Also, keep one unit safe so that you don't lose if all your units die

I dont think Viper will see this, but I will deliver the heads up anyway. In all Campaigns up to Rise of the Rajas, there the script was removed, AI wont build any military units until you Build It, Get it (from Gaia or other script) or Start With a Town Center (dont work if you delete your TC unfortunately). That means if you kill all of the AIs stationary starting units and never get the TC, AI never replace them.

You can rush straight to the wonder from the start of the mission, even without the reinforcements and be able to destroy it. Just right click the wonder, not the villager

You are meant to run straight up to the blue villagers and basically convert as many as possible before they run away. You started with converting conqs so the villagers were gone (or killed by your troops? didn't pay attention there). But as long as it works it's part of the plan, I guess...

When you build a tc, ai starts making units, so this scenario is much easier to do without starting economy.

If you replay some of the missions, you should definitely retry this one. If I am not mistaken, you could speedrun this mission by simply get the warriors, sneak around the castle by the bridges and then run straight for the wonder. There is also a video of this strategy on KZbin. Just look for the Age of Empires 2 :: Live SPEED RUN (0:05:09) by Barbarossa89 #AGDQ 2014. (it starts around min. 12)

I just tried to do a speedrun on Hard. On the first attempt, I got killed by the Castles behind the Wonder and on the second attempt, I destroyed the Wonder, but all my men died before the trigger that gave me the win got off. On the third attempt, I won in 00:05:37. The speedrun by Barbarossa89 was done on Standard.
