The hardest part is getting past the 'ugly stage'. That point where you want to give up or start over because it is not looking good. Trust the process - a good mantra

This is a much needed lesson. I enjoy watching the videos of others creating art, however the editing and speed-up does create an unrealistic expectation of the time and skill required to create beautiful detailed artworks.

Thank you so much for this. I always thought I was just a slow artist. I do spend so long on my work. I love your videos and thank you so much for helping so many of us move forward with realistic expectations. ❤

Great lesson. So true that drawing is a very long labor of love. To me it is so relaxing. I can just close out everything around me and just concentrate on the drawing.

re; time-lapse, I do still like to watch those for composition and how they look all messed up then the artist makes them finalized and they are fantastic. And of course, even better had my first year as a member on Virtual Instructor and see the real time projects with the ability to ask my art questions and learn from others' questions (in real time) !

I think it’s nice not to know what we’re drawing. I think it helps me concentrate on the shapes rather than on what it is and what my preconceived notion of what it should look like is.

It's really cool. I'm learning to draw, and it's really hard to realise that realistic drawings take a lot of time. Even when I know it does, but putting more than an hour or two hours into a drawing seems wild for a beginner :)

Hi Mark, Have you tried Stonehenge paper? It's pretty tough. There's also Dur-a-Lar paper. Hardly any tooth, but extremely tough.
@markjaramillo3509
@markjaramillo3509 Жыл бұрын
@@thevirtualinstructor Thank you! I haven't tried that paper. I'll try them. I have a tendency to erase the papers surface and ruin my drawing. I think that as I practice more and more I'll use the eraser less and with less pressure.
@kathleenstoin671
@kathleenstoin671 Жыл бұрын
I like Canson smooth Bristol paper. But if you need to erase repeatedly, you might give some thought to taking time to make sure your foundation drawing is in light pressure strokes, and that it's accurate before moving on to the details. Also, the type of eraser you use is important. Some erasers are tough on paper. I use Blu-Tack, which you can buy online. It's not marketed as an eraser, but I now use it instead of a traditional kneaded eraser to lift off graphite, not rub it off. Try lifting first, then using a white synthetic eraser to get off more of the graphite. Think before you put your pencil to your paper, and you will erase less.

I use daler rowney heavy weight paper, works fine for me. I actually draw a lot with my eraser and own like 7 different types 😂. For me it is a very important tool I can't go without. It creates even more texture to my landscape drawings. You just need to figure out what works for you!

Most of what I see on social media starts with a traced drawing so no drawing skills required. I haven’t capitulated yet but that seems like what most do these days.
@deansmith6092
@deansmith6092 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it makes any difference how you get your first lines down on the paper if you’re working from a reference picture. It’s what you do in between those lines that shows if you have drawing skills. I learnt when I was young to free hand or grid method an outline, but it’s just so boring. Just because you don’t doesn’t mean you can’t, use any tools available to help you achieve the results you want. I use Da Vinci eye a lot of the time now so I can get to the bit of the drawing experience I like quicker. Join the revolution and try new techniques and drawing aids, remember it’s not cheating if you can do it the long way round. Just enjoy what you do. Happy drawing 👊🏻
@tgoodrum123
@tgoodrum123 Жыл бұрын
@@deansmith6092 I realize that the drawing is only a part of any piece but great shading & coloring cannot make a poor drawing become a good piece and there’s no way that even a person who is highly skilled & talented at drawing can achieve the level of realism & accuracy in the drawings traced from photos.
