The thing I love about this particular video is how they keep the camera mostly on Floor for this number and you really get to see just how much she tells the story through her facial expressions and body language. She’s not just up there singing notes. She performs the number as well as sings it. And, truth be told, she is also just as impressive even if she’s just standing still. That degree of personal presence is something few singers today can match.

One of the Perfect Feel good songs from Nightwish ! That plucking sound was made by Troy with the Bouzouki. And, Fun Fact Time: Alpenglow is an optical phenomenon that appears as a horizontal reddish glow near the horizon opposite to the Sun when the solar disk is just below the horizon. This effect is easily visible when mountains are illuminated, but can also be seen when clouds are lit through backscatter. And Alpenglow Rockshelter: Archaeological site named after Nightwish Song. The Jubjub Bird is a creature that appears in Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. NWSU 🤘😎🤘.

When one of your Nightwish reactions pop up, I have to hear it as soon as I see it. I watch most of the reactors to my favorite band, but I think you're my favorite because of the pure joy that radiates from you for the entire video. I can see that they bring you a similar joy that I get from them. This song is the only one I've seen, in two different performances, where Floor goes over to Tuomas to sing. I'm wondering if it is because of a fear of two such powerful forces of nature being so close together might shake the balance of the universe. It's so endearing to see him singing along with her as he plays. I know there is such great love and respect between them, but it's great to see it so openly displayed. Thanks again, Bethany, for another reaction I can watch over and over, just to get the positivity and happiness you bring!

The meaning of Alpenglow. Strictly speaking, alpenglow refers to indirect sunlight reflected or diffracted by the atmosphere after sunset or before sunrise. This diffused illumination creates soft shadows in addition to the reddish color. The term is also used informally to include direct illumination by the reddish light of the rising or setting sun, with sharply defined shadows. If you will take notice of the reddish light on the stage while Nightwish is playing...that is the color of the sky that is known as Alpenglow. Tuomas is a freaking genius, having the stage covered with Alpenglow! As an artist, painting an Alpenglow on canvas requires a certain amount of transparent paint to the canvas to achieve the glow that one is looking for! When done correctly, the painting will be a spectacular piece of art!

Again, it's such a joy to hear these"reactive analyses." The perfect combination of attentiveness, enthusiam, and expertise. I began listening to Nightwish casually right around the time of Tarja's well-publicized departure and, to be honest, I still miss her contribution to the band. She's simply one of a kind - a singular force of nature, That said, I don't think they - indeed, we - could have asked for any better than Floor Jansen to step in and save the day - which she really did. Such a powerful, versatile, and charismatic performer. So gifted. Thanks, as always for a fun and enlightening vid!

Oooooof, this was such a great performance. I was fortunate to see them in L.A. in 2016, rocking out on the rail, and this is just another incredible track. Neat bit, "We Were Here" sets up the ending of the show, "The Greatest Show on Earth" which repeats a longer form of the phrase.... everyone singing WE WERE HERE sharing in the moment, it still gives me chills remembering it!

Another lovely reaction. The music is phenomenal and so uplifting but I also love the message of the lyrics. The song is a celebration of life. About living life to it's fullest, "We were here. Roaming on the endless prairie. Writing an endless story. Building a Walden of our own." Building a Walden of our own is a reference to the song My Walden from the same album inspired by Thoreau's poem (another great song). It's about creating our own paradise, whatever it may be. But life isn't all fun. We must struggle and overcome "We were here. Grieving the saddened faces. Conquering the darkest places." After a long and consequential life then it is time to welcome our eternal rest with grace and dignity "You are my path, my home, my star. A beautiful tale within the tale. And when the dust needs to move on. I will tuck us in on a bed of snow. Painting white, silencing the valley we built. Together we'll sleep devoured by life." The several references to We Were Here are repeated in The Greatest Show on Earth, another celebration of all that is living. Thar song is about evolution and is a reminder that we all matter and we all have an impact on this world and those around us.

Here's another vote for 'Greatest Show On Earth' for an upcoming visit with Nightwish. I think the Tampere version has a little bit more magic, at the end of a tour, Floor's parents and a documentary crew were there, and she seems to pour EVERYTHING into what must be a grueling end to a live show. But it's gorgeous, powerful and inspiring. Live fireworks early on are a good way to confirm that it is the Tampere version. There are several edits/copies, at least one with the lyrics in subtitles, although you should make sure it runs through their bows and the final spoken word segment (at least one cuts early).

If you like the positive, uplifting feel of this, with it's "we were here!" motif, then you should really listen to 'The Greatest Show On Earth', which is the grande finale of the album 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful' from which Alpenglow comes. It's a LONG piece, but it's totally worth it. The best one to react to is the live performance from Tampere (you get all the fireworks: literally...😉). Beware of false endings: the piece was designed to be the finale of a live show, so there's a long instrumental at the end while they take their bows, and then another reading over the credits at the end. The readings are by Professor Richard Dawkins (who's work partially inspired the album): some are from his own books, and some from Charles Darwin.
@rnowak85
@rnowak85 Жыл бұрын
Yes, Make sure the video you use goes all the way to the ending credits (Tampere version) or Professor Dawkins speaking (Wembley version). The outro is another piece of musical perfection written by Tuomas in celebration of the grandeur of life. I prefer the Tampere performance because of the different instrumentation (Low whistle instead of E Bow and guitar), fireworks, outdoor stadium, and because it is kind of their homefield they just seem to give it something extra (Floor's parents were there as well) but they are both extraordinary.

Floor deserves all the praises mentioned here and more, but I want to highlight how Marko sings with perfect timing , perfect pitch, perfect attitude, he keeps playing but his voice goes in and out of the song as needed and he looks so relaxed, you could think he is waiting for the bus on a Sunday to go to the park, or just rehearsing his bass with friends at home. His talent was a great part of Nighwish.
