The point was that country artists lately have been singing a blend of country and pop, new age country, rather than pure country like was sung before the 2000s. 🤦

I don’t like country but I have to be honest, this audition was actually really good. He has a good voice, and it’s not too whiny or yodelly like some other country singers who are very nasally, his voice conveys emotions and that’s what driven me in.

Bryce definitely is in the same vein of the old school traditional country singers like George Strait and Alan Jackson. He lets the song be the focus of the performance, and the best male country singers from Hank Williams, Sr on down to today's performers have always just stood on stage with a guitar and sang. No vocal gymnastics or flashy spectacles needed. Bryce Leatherwood fits in nicely with that group. I hope that he wins, and that I hear him on my radio soon.

Most of these young singers slur the words and are lost in all the noise. “Keep it simple stupid” is the formula for success.

Vocal gymnastics are nice to have though because it shows more of the singers vocal range. Runs, riffs, vibrato and other gymnastics add a little bit of flair and help show how talented a singer is. Obviously you can be talented without gymnastics but if you have an entire album without anything it can get stale and boring.

@@nathanfortun5768 I disagree. I feel those elements distract from what really matters, and that's the song. A perfect example of this was Kim Cruse's performance of Gershwin's "Summertime"; I love that song, and the operetta Porgy and Bess, but Kim played around with it, and she held and stretched out notes that I lost interest because of her vocal tricks. In my head I was thinking, "Lady please for the love of Pete just sing the song." I know musical tastes are subjective, but I prefer artists who put the song first and themselves second. and for me Bryce was a perfect example of this. I'm also a fan of traditional country music, and he epitomized that sound as well when his song choices. I'm thrilled that he was announced as this year's winner, and I hope Nashville lets him be himself, and doesn't try to push him into crossover or pop themed country. I am very much not a fan of pop or rap in my country which is why Morgan Myles didn't appeal to me even though she had a nice voice. I look forward to hearing Bryce on my radio soon.

I understand the objectiveness of music and I understand that your appeals and mine different but I don’t think there’s a distinction of the “song” and the “artist” they are both tied together. The song is an extension of the artist and their creative prowess. Because without a song the artist is obsolete and without an artist a song doesn’t exist. I understand not everyone executes it well. Perfect example fergie doing the national anthem in a lounge R&B style and it sounded TERRIBLE. while you might not like the extra flair the vocal gymnastics give you can’t admit it’s a good way to show your vocal ability, even if you didn’t like the style. Just my opinion tho.
