Margarita? well it has tequila, but margarita is like a tourist fancy kinda drink for Mexicans, we are not fancy, and this is proper traditional music, not some hip new twerk trend tik tok teen influencer stpid bs for bots, I recommend a Charanda, its kinda like a margarita but from Michoacan where Juan Gabriel was born, is just a recomendation, you enjoy Juan with any drink you like.

Excuse me, but I just wanted to add this note. This performance was part of a very historically important happening in music history. Juan Gabriel was already a superstar and greatly loved in Mexico. It was 1990, and he was 40 years old with a very successful 19 year musical career. This event was the first time that a non-classical or traditional folk artist had performed at The National Palace of Fine Arts. Juan "El Divo de Juarez" Gabriel performed 3 nights in a row and donated all the proceeds to The National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico." This specific performance is very special for me. My reaction to it is similar to my reaction to "SOS" by Dimash in the 2017 Chinese tv show "I am Singer" & "Je Suis Malade" by Lara Fabian on "From Lara With Love."

I love that you have discovered this amazing artist. I'm 79 years old, and I have been married to my beautiful "Mexican Mona Lisa" for 34 years. Our marriage changed my life in many ways, and one of those changes was discovering the world of Mexican music and musical artists. I am a big fan of many Mexican musical artists going back to the legendary Pedro Infante, but I have a special admiration and love for Juan Gabriel. His life story is profoundly interesting and was at one point in time a movie based on his life was made. From a childhood of poverty in Juarez to a musical icon is very touching and inspiring. He was more than just a great singer. He composed over 1,000 songs many of which became "classics" on Latin-American Music. He was a brilliant arranger, and this specific performance in Mexico's Palace of Fine Arts with the mariachi band, Mexico's National Symphony Orchestra, and a large choir was his arrangement. I could babble on forever about this man and his music, but this isn't the format for that. I'll just add that for me, his greatest forte was "inhabiting the song" on the level of Lara Fabian and Dimash Kudaibergen. Thanks again for featuring him. I am one of your biggest fans and appreciate your reactions a great deal. Blessings to you from Texas.

This song is so deep and heartbreaking. He starts by talking about how happy he was and how he never felt pain nor betrayal and life was happy and good until I met you (hasta que te conocí). Now you’ve put me through the ringer and while you gave me just a sliver of love I gave everything I had and you taught me true pain, the kind I never ever knew until I met you (hasta que te conocí) and you’re so bad that I never want to see you again for the rest of my life. That’s my gringo understanding of it with my university Spanish. His live performance of this song is one of the greatest performances I have ever seen and here’s another incredible singer/songwriter/entertainer who’s gone too soon. Rest In Peace Juan. Many people here un México have agreed that the meaning of love in the mexican culture was defined by three musicians, Agustín Lara, José Alfredo Jimenez and Juan Gabriel. What I love about Juan Gabriel is that, trough his lyrics he aloud the machos in México yo express their emotions without Shame. The flamboyan way he sings and dance and speak was like an upfront chalenge to mexican society, and still he manage to become one of the most loved and influentional figure in mexican music. His story is incredibly inspiring. He suffered, a lot. His mom did not love him, he was abandoned, unjustly accused of theft and sent to prison, suffered discrimination for the way he was. His poor soul. Music and his fans made him happy at the end and in just so glad you’re reacting to him. I can say he’s the most complete Latin American artist. His composition, the cultural impact he had in different countries. His star will shine bright for a long long time. I recommend the series about his life, it’s on Amazon video. It’s called Until I met you/Hasta que te conocí. Btw this song is about the pain his mom caused him by the lack of love and affection he endured.

what happens is that Juan Gabriel sang in the palace of fine arts where it is usually for tenors or classical music, ballet. In fact, the higher-ups at that time did not agree that he sang there because his music is popular, but he left everyone with their mouths open because he brought an orchestra. He produced everything, the musical arrangements, light, songs, etc. And also he is characterized by improvising, that is, he changes and puts lyrics when he sings live.

Backstory! Juan Gabriel’s biological mom abandoned him when little. He was raised by someone else who became his Mamá (mentioned in the song) but then Juan Gabriel met his biological mother and that’s when he came to know pain and sorrow. Hence the title of the song: “until I met you”.

He was so wonderful. In Mexico we love his music he influenced and composed music for so many important Latin American musicians. In his later days he did many concerts similar to this one, my favourite is Abrázame Muy Fuerte which is such a lovely song anyway but his live version is impecable. His concert in Bellas Artes was the top of his career one could say. People was so composed because this was the first time a singer like him gave a concert like this of popular mariachi music combining the full orchestra which is what the Bellas Artes palace is used for, only classical music gigs were given there and he broke the norm, so people didn’t know how to react to not disrespect the venue I guess 😆

Juan Gabriel performance at this venue was a rare occurrence and hence why this concert is very popular. Performances at this venue are generally (or at least were at the time) regarded as a "display" of Mexico's very best and its offer to the Fine Arts of the world. It was truly an Honor to have been asked to perform there. Juan Gabriel was definitely worthy of performing at this venue, where he held multiple concerts throughout his years.

Well, what can I say about Juan Gabriel, maybe we all Mexicans love him because he was not only an artist but an Icon, and he was original. His talent was just amazing and it includes his talent to write music and also to perform. His song was all so touching that you can relate to the feeling he is telling. Also, he had such good stuff that can make you feel the music and want to dance. He was a humble man he suffered a lot in his youth but he made it until he reaches success here in Mexico. I wish I had the opportunity to see him doing his show live but unfortunately, I was too young at the time and now I am just a fan and watch and replay his performance on yt.

Juan Gabriel! He will transcend 100 generations! He always gave a 110% on every performance even if it was National Palace or a little city. He even performed in the rain. He kept singing until he couldn't, because of illness and then passed. We miss him so much! He's a legend.

Wrote over 1,000 songs. Many sung by the best Spanish and Hispanic singers. Everyone loved him. And he came from no where… very humble beginnings… sheer perseverance.

I’ve watched your reactions many times and it’s always a pleasure to see them. I saw, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kenny Rogers, Santana, all Motown artists, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, The Eagles, Luis Miguel, Ana Gabriel and everyone in between and no one and I mean no one put on a show like Juan Gabriel ! His concerts were 3 to 31/2 hours long and you craved for more. He had everyone standing, dancing and singing for the entire show. I saw him in Laredo (my home town) then in San Antonio and they were the best ever.

Til this day! I still say this is the single greatest latin/hispanic peformance EVER! Juan Gabriel's passion/emotion when delivering his lyrics is second to none!...and this song leads into a like a 12 mins medley which displays all his talents. Really, the mariachi, the orchestra, and HIM..there has never been anything or anyone like him since!

Juan Gabriel was an artist from another planet, one of the best songwriters of all time, great singer, total domain of the audience, when JG sings everybody shuts up, until he raises the mic, now is time for the audience to sing! I had the great pleasure of knowing him, since I was born in Juarez, super great nice guy, humble, charitable, decent, and super sweet.

Voice Coach, beautiful woman and intelligent in her appreciations .... Juan Gabriel is an icon, one of the greatest sung authors that Mexico has given, unfortunately he has already died but his legacy remains as an example for the new values and see what is to be a star as he was ... Along with José Alfredo Jiménez for me they are the two greatest in Mexico ... Greetings from Culiacán Sinaloa Mexico and excuse my English ... and I reiterate ... what a beautiful woman ...

Thank you for reacting to one of the dearest artists in Mexico ! I could say so many things abot him. He is so loved as he was a very sensitive and definitely wonderful song writer, philanthropist, producer, actor and perfomer. A show could last 3-4 hours. One interesting fact about him is that he wrote around 1900 songs and some were ot known by their public but he gave us so much! He will always be in our hearts and by far, one of the most representative of Latin Music.💗

What a delight to hear your comments troughout, He was a true genius, not only he blended the natural orchestra in this majestic performance, also he embbeded a few other genres along. You can se an accordion, a harp and non traditional elements in a given type of music.

I had the privilege to see him live twice in Chicago, in the 90s and in 2015. Best concerts ever, they would go over 3 hrs of nonstop singing and dancing. He's my idol and of course our Mexican Elvis, one of a kind. He makes me proud of being Mexican 🇲🇽. Please react to Amor Eterno, Querida or Asi Fue. Whichever you prefer, I love them all. Looking forward to more.

Hi there, he was the undisputed king of Mexican pop. His concerts were a roller coaster! My very first concert was Juan Gabriel, I was 15yo. In Las Vegas on September 16th. (Mexican Independence Day) It was incredible. He had fireworks (Las Vegas doesn't like doing fireworks outside of July---they let him do it) It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I was never more proud to be Mexican. He was a super DIVA in performance- and a down-to-earth individual. The pipes were incredible. We left there screaming VIVA MEXICO! There will never be another! They broke the mold. Rest in peace!

Juan Gabriel was also a great song writer, there are many songs that many spanish artists sing that he originally wrote. I highly recommend the song Amor Eterno (en Vivo), its from the same performance that you reviewed here.

I just LOVE YOUR REACTION!!!Yes!!!! Mariachi is beautiful and many other cultural music I'm learning... Juan Gabriel was a composer and now that I'm pushing 40, now I know about ballads and more of my cultural music and artists...parents are Mexican and I was born in the CALIFORNIA, I want to teach my HS students how beautiful life is and learn... I speak Spanish and apparently poetry is amazing in Spanish along with other languages... I'm glad I didn't lose my Spanish... wow with orchestra!!!!
