They're really just the the strokes rebranded. So from another point of view they're not underrated but under advertised or misbranded. Based on the lyrics of the last strokes album, Julian sounded like he didn't like the pressure of the brand. So it works for him

@isaiah147Ай бұрын
It's one of my favorites on the record for sure! Probably all time for the band too.
@jarrbones Жыл бұрын
The risks this band takes is truly mind-blowing, conjuring from and concocting across multiple modes, genres, eras of art, music, philosophy, and literature that might initially appear 'unworkable' or even absurd - yet, the result is perfect and nothing short of astonishing. In today's musical landscape, there is nothing that even comes close to this level of genius. It transcends mere experimentation and goes far beyond a band of exceptionally talented musicians crafting complex compositions. It is a showcase of unparalleled virtuosity and unmatched methodology behind the madness that few, if any, bands can or will ever replicate. And the best part, they don't fucckking care if you don't get it. We should count ourselves fortunate to witness this unfolding in real-time. What an extraordinary time to be alive.
@bock228 Жыл бұрын
I have to absolutely agree with you. The way in which Julian represents the visions he's seen and the ideas he's had, is absolutely superb! Representing the true mystical vision in such a modern, succinct and true way in accordings to nowaday's themes, Truly representing the methodology behind his madness and what provokes it to become such and integral part of his wisdom and vision as an artist. "Did My Best" & "The Eternal Tao 2.0" are titles that fit right in with this kind of music.

This track is about the struggle to retain one's sanity (& focus), especially in a world where outside forces may have claimed you've lost it. As the lyrics themselves state; "Seen so much, we've gone blind", - ain't that the truth!

This song is incredible. My god. Hard for me to think of an artist with more variety in discography than Julian Casablancas. Plus most artists put out great original material that they are known for in first 7 or 8 years. Between new abnormal with strokes and then this with voidz. 20 plus years into career and outting out great things that sound so different than earlier offerings.

I am always a little scared to listen new songs from Julian, thinkin: "this might be the first one that I will not like, dont become disappointed...", then the first 2 lines sang and I am like "AWH FUCK HE DID IT AGAIN, HOW ?!?!?!? The Voidz - Flexorcist Fell in rows, just like dominoes Held the line for just one day Standing in perfect columns still Graves lined-up across the hill Pistols at dawn Aw now you done it baby Oh no I shoulda figured You always make a fuss What you’re an expert? You read about it somewhere? Baby, oh “He had it coming” - It’s always something with you Civilized, evil eyes Seen so much, we've gone blind Friendly face in the firing squad In the end it’s nice to know someone at a party I guess I mighta - sounded a little crazy, maybe I only think of things I shouldn’t do It’s like a puzzle We sing about it sometimes, always Thought we were ready 3000 years too soon Temporary things last forever And nothing exist Temporary things last forever And nothing exists We'll ride into the flame If that's what it takes We'll ride into the flame If that's what it takes Breakdown.. We're not there entirely We are free, but we're not free See the list of silenced ones From the grave they sing us psalms These are the things that I must do They are not meant to upset you Some might just not be ready for the truth When you first met me I’z prolly doing something crazy We're not that special, what don't you understand You always worry about things that just don't matter Another puzzle I’d like to solve with you We might like to have fun but we will ride into the flame if that is what it takes ...or we might never know

I cannot wait to blast this in my car in the morning and hear what it sounds like fully immersed and surrounded by it, with bass. I like the laid back, chill vibes of this, like Wink and Leave it in My Dreams. Infinity Repeating comes to mind too. Totally different from Prophecy of the Dragon and American Way. While it isn't my favorite song from The Voidz, it's still cool AF and I will be listening to it on repeat 💚

I really love the artwork. it puts the stark reality of life in front of our face. forced to live in makeshift neighborhoods made up of parked vehicles spread all throughout the streets. even though we recognize that the city is on fire and falling apart due to the looming societal crisis, it all kind of just starts to blend into the cityscape, as if everything were calm and ordinary. maybe even a bit glamorous. in spite of the one in control of it all that just stands dignified over the city and watches it burn.
