Lyrics:
Struck me like a chord
I'm an ugly boy
Holdin' out the night
Lonely after light
You begged me not to go
Sinkin' like a stone
Use me like an oar
And get yourself to shore

Based on the video, I like to think this is mostly about different relationships with death. The boy is suicidal, the curse in the rabbit world seems to be inescapable, the aliens are transcending, and the space warrior sacrifices herself. They are all met with death and deal with it in different ways. The turn to it, they run from it, they aspire for it, and they are honored by it. A lot of deep feels in this masterpiece. And "the door" is the unknown. The void. The line between life and death. Even though these stories are very different, they are connected through life and death. Something inevitable for everything in the universe.

Sounds like it's about a kid having terminal illness, in a family where the parents are already having struggles. They wants to be used like an oar to navigate their parents troubles, while they struggle to come to terms with their terminal issues. I think that they are having difficulties because of the cannonball reference. The kid feels alone every night, probably because they can't leave due to poor health conditions, and when they are banging at the door, the parents don't have the answers to the terminal illness problem I could be projecting however 😅
@Bitterswheat
@Bitterswheat 2 жыл бұрын

Lyrics I can't escape it I'm never gonna make it out of this in time I guess that's just fine I'm not there quite yet My thoughts, such a mess Like a little boy What you runnin' for? Run at the door Anyone home? Have I lost it all? Struck me like a chord I'm an ugly boy Holdin' out the night Lonely after light You begged me not to go Sinkin' like a stone Use me like an oar And get yourself to shore A bang at the door Anyone home? That's just what they do Right in front of you Like a cannonball Slammin' through your wall In their face, I saw What they're fightin' for I can't escape it I'm never gonna make it 'til the end, I guess Struck me like a chord I'm an ugly boy Holdin' out the night Lonely after light Bangin' on the door I don't wanna know Sinkin' like a stone So use me like an oar Hard to fight what I can't see Not tryna build no dynasty I can't see beyond this wall But we lost this game So many times before Lying on the cold floor I'll be waiting, yeah I'll be waiting from the other side Waiting for the tide to rise Lying on the cold floor I'll be waiting, yeah I'll be waiting from the other side Waiting for the tide to rise

Does anyone understand that video? I believe it's that story of the boy who was born and raised in the late 20th century. A typical example of "the future youth (as incarnating souls) will come from entirely different cosmic worlds than us", like Rudolf Steiner once told his followers. He witnesses how people -- his own human parents -- fall victim to demonical possession of the worst kind (Asuras) and tear everything, deep love built up in many years, apart, even destroying their own kid's cosmic heroine right in front of him. The kids brain gets destructed in a moment like this, but he yet has to live and later he dies in more modern times as a cosmonaut, because people of "the new abnormal" lifestyle are casual about the life of their fellow man and forgot to provide him with air out of lazyness or something like that. Then there's the cosmic heroine. I think they should have used another image then she breaking those titanian chains, because no one is able to build up _that_ much PSI especially in that kind of a situation. (Lower minded people in the near, are restricting the use of PSI by nature. For example, it's nearly impossible to physically levitate among low-minded idiots, because minds always have the occult power to hold things as they know them.) is this in the future, and is the spiritual cosmic civilization destroying future Earth, because it became decadent? Also the boy visits his old parental home as a sphere-human (=dead person). Then it transforms into the future: organic, self-sufficient cities in which the higher (minded) race will live in, while the rest, all the peoples of evil, the new human primates, will live their ape-like fates in the non-civilized wastelands. This will be in the mid of the 2000s.

Yes Alan, it is heartbreaking. Heart wrenching. There is so much compassion and empathy and love here, God bless you all for having...hearts of gold....for I too am that way and my heart breaks every day for you, for me and for them. The pain on the rabbits face, almost hard to take because it seems like despair. The hardest part is sitting here helpless, watching it and there is nothing I can do to help him. And this is a metaphor for all of us who have been struck dumb and left with that pained expression of sadness, fear and confusion.

Those closing moments, oh god. The boy returning home and the house is derelict. The rabbits seem to gather and commune after their brush with death, then dash for shelter from the rain. The rabbit pausing and glancing back as if looking knowingly at the boy. The lyrics "Lying on the cold floor. I'll be waiting on the other side. Waiting for the tide to rise." The power of those moments OOOFT. It's like the world came to an end but it was warm, and the complete oblivion was soft and held you. For the longest time I thought the lyrics were "waiting for my time to cross" instead of "waiting for the tide to rise", which is beautiful.

It's definitely one of the most beautiful videos I've seen. Super stylistic. I don't think I've ever seen anyone pay homage to a very short lived, but artisicly influencal period of fantasy animated movies from 1973 to 1981. The hobbit, Watership down, Wizards, Fantasic Planet, lord of the ring, heavy metal. They are all very different, while simultaneously sharing a similar aesthetic. The animators knocked it out of the park. It's hard to believe they put this much effort into a music video......It couldn't of been cheap.

Man.... this is a masterpiece.. The Celestial Procession scene just gives me this feeling of something so profound happening... it wrenches at my heartstrings and fascinates me all at the same time.. And the little brown rabbit... so sad what happens to him... but he gets away... changed from the experience.. definitely something from Watership Down.. and my dog just so happens to be a little brown pup so seeing him get hurt makes me think of her... The Starmaiden gets her revenge but at the ultimate price... And the poor boy... he left with death for a short time... only to realize he's been gone for years... So sad... so deep... and so beautiful, all of it. This is my favorite album right now.

*The video explained, from Wikipedia:* The video was done in the style of 1980s animation and tells several roughly interlinked stories. The stories are: - _The Boy_ - A young boy is at home while his parents watch TV when a hooded figure appears at the doorway. Subsequently, the boy's parents fight while he sits sadly in a corner, playing with a toy figure of the warrioress from the _Megastructure_ story. The hooded figure is revealed to be Death, who takes the boy along with him on a cosmic journey where they witness the _Cosmonaut 1982_ story. Death embraces the boy as he cries. The boy enters a doorway to return to his home, where he finds find it empty and long deserted with the implication that his parents are dead. The _Boy_ story was drawn by a team led by Benjy Brooke. - _The Rabbits_ - During an eclipse of the moon, a group of rabbits flee while another rabbit turns demoniacal. One of the rabbits is trapped in a tunnel and is scarred by the demoniacal rabbit. Subsequently, the scarred rabbit is able to escape from the netting which binds him in the tunnel. The scarred rabbit joins the other rabbits, but the attack has traumatized him as he always fearfully turns around to see what is behind him. The _Rabbits_ story was drawn by a team led by Adam Henderson. - _The Megastructure_ - On a mechanical planet called the Megastructure, a sinister alien called the Overlord views the _Rabbit_ and _Boy_ stories. A warrior woman imprisoned and tortured by the aliens breaks free of her chains and kills her tormentors. She then hijacks a flying car and goes in pursuit of the Overlord with the intention of killing him, but before she does, the Megastructure explodes, killing everyone. The _Megastructure_ story was drawn by Pablo Gostanian and his 2Veinte studio in Buenos Aires. - _The Celestial Procession_ - In the depths of outer space a group of hooded aliens march on an ethereal structure before their leader, who is dressed in a style reminiscent of a Chinese empress. The empress activates a power surge, which apparently destroys the Megastructure and opens a doorway. The aliens in the procession enter the doorway and disappear with the implication that they are sacrificing their lives. The _Celestial Procession_ story was drawn by a team led by Adam Sillard. - _Cosmonaut 1982_ - In outer space, a Soviet spacecraft surrounded by debris has an alien attached to it while the lifeless body of a cosmonaut floats outside. The spacecraft explodes, killing the alien. It is implied that the cosmonaut sacrificed his life to destroy the alien and prevent the spacecraft from returning to Earth. Afterwards, the wreckage of the spacecraft is sucked into a black hole. The _Cosmonaut 1982_ story was drawn by Ugo Bienvenu and his Remembers Productions studio in Paris. The last shot of the video is of the boy wandering his abandoned home before the video cuts away to a shot of a futuristic, edenic place as Casablancas sings about "waiting on the other side". The video's director and writer, Mike Burakoff, explains its meaning as: "There’s a feeling when you are growing up that you are just leaving for a second to go get something, that you’ll be right back. But reality is not the same as a memory, you can’t go back. Something or some time that feels so close to you can be impenetrably far away. It’s a feeling of loss that I get when I think about certain memories from my past. That notion is at the heart of this video… How do these different characters deal with loss? What does it feel like to face the future?"
