As a kid I slept on the living room couch often. One night sometime after midnight I woke up but couldn't figure out why. Then a half second after looking around my family dog walked past the living room into the kitchen on its hind legs like a person. Freaked me the hell out because our dog to my knowledge couldn't walk on two legs. Then I realized our dog was under the blanket at my feet. Asleep in a ball. I lost my mind and screamed for my mom. Who came and calmed me down. It was almost certainly a waking dream, something kids experience often. But holy hell I hated that "not dog"

@@sarahthesarah2850 what about a moving water stain about three foot wide on your bedroom ceiling. As a very young kid I would tell my mom the stain moves at night. Mom thought I was noticing more water damage. That's not what I was seeing though, it would move while I was watching it in the dark. It would move a couple inches to entirely new tile. And the parts of the tile it was on would be free of any stain come morning. I drew a crayon circle around it once to prove to my mother it was Infact moving. And it never moved again. I was definitely just half asleep. But part of me wants to go back to that old family house and find out if it's still there.

@@FeedMeSalt Drawing circles around things is said to contain them. Shadows are a very interesting topic. There are many biological and spiritual causes attributed to them. I am the friend who people recommend for help with the strange. I like to look into scientific, psychological and spiritual explanations for things. Truth is for the most part we don't know and are all exploring ways to figure it out. From the fluid motion you described though it sounds like a dream eater, if it was something spirit based. They like to feed off the ambient energy humans produce when dreaming, meditating or imagining. For the most part people don't notice them, they blend in really well. Some sensitive folks are said to see them. They're not usually dangerous but can be unsettling. They can become parasitic in some cases. There are many things it could have been. I'm sure you've heard the scientific and psyche explanations. We hallucinate our experience of reality though so the lines of human experience can blur in some interesting ways. Your experience and how it contributes to your life is most important. I've helped people who went on bad trips. It hurts them, even though it was from them. We often want to know if something is caused by internal or external stimuli. Usually it's a combination of both though. Hope that helps. Telling people in our early industrial history about bacteria viruses and microorganisms didn't go over well for a very long time. I guess my experiences made me curious. Nothing ever made me feel like it wanted to harm me. Even the "not dog" I was totally ignored for the couple seconds I saw it. And the water stain wasn't scary it was just super friggin weird. The deer were allowing themselves to be caught. "Since the capture site was relocated to another continent, no deer have been caught." They knew that other deer could rescue them using tunnels. Now that this is impossible, they aren't letting themselves be caught anymore. Edit: during the "interview" with the deer at the end of the video, it utters one word: "research." That's why they were letting themselves get caught. To see the inside of the facility.

Well- since one of the things the "deer' stole was a book on Rosvelt Incident, I have assumption that these things are either the same aliens as then (as in SCP verse Rosvelt aliens happened) or something that tries to anticipate how a local species reacts, be it violence or curiocity. This time it was curiocity- and the "deer" played humanity perfectly.

So, this means they clearly don’t get how the foundation rolls, guess what, there are multiple of you, you’re disposable, if they have it their way, you are knocked out, put in a room, researched, and killed if you do anything *suggesting* you have a plan to escape, this is likely why they stopped trying, the other site, as well as being on another continent, probably has advanced sensors, and this could just suggest that they are in a limited area or avoiding the site altogether.

What I think is most interesting about the not-deer in this case is not just that these guys are shapeshifting aliens wearing terrible deer disguises... but moreso *why* the deer disguises are so awful in the first place. For a creature that is used to being able to change its form and appearance at will (and assuming that this is a common characteristic among competing lifeforms in the environment they evolved in), it might not make any biological sense for them to be able to recognize slight differences in 'static' lifeforms. In other words, they might see their deer costume as being 'close enough', but to us, its an obviously incorrect representation.
@tamlandipper296 ай бұрын
Might also be that we are more aware of deer aesthetically than they expect. We eat them, so they think we don't pay them any mind.
@WoobooRidesAgain6 ай бұрын
There are two explanations that immediately spring to mind. The first is similar to your idea. Namely, the aliens, being amorphous blobs of stuff, do not have much of an understanding of the differences between mammals and so construct the visage of a deer from what is effectively a limited understanding of what a deer is or should be. The second is that the "costume" is actually not a costume so much as it is the equivalent of an EVA suit. They find a deer, kill it, and proceed to wear it like a skin coat, because deer are not only plentiful, but corpses of such are much easier to get a hold of, or they create a "not deer" suit on the basis of a deer. The "modifications" are done to better suit (no pun intended) their goals - being a creature adapted to placid grass grazing and the occasional bit of predatory behavior doesn't really work if your goal is to capture humans for some nefarious purpose or another. It may be because the aliens aren't quite capable of perfectly replicating a deer, or because they feel they don't _need_ to, and deem perfectly replicating a deer is merely inefficient, "perfect is the enemy of good enough" and what. They only need to get close enough to you to grab you, so anything beyond the basics harms overall mission efficiency.

The pilot focused on an ambush predator that would hide in the bodies of medium sized creatures, such as deer, bursting out when they sense easy prey. The evil SCP equivalent was putting them into the bodies of animals, then selling them as cheap alternative meats; in this case road kill. The Bureau would then study how the creatures would hunt in an urban environment; speculating their use as a bioweapon.

As someone who lives in a state with about 750,000 White Tail Deer and been surrounded by them my whole life, this is the first SCP to creep me out on a visceral level in years. If you haven't been around deer that much, you wouldn't understand how casual and unphased by humanity they've become, nor how quickly a casual encounter can go South purely based on the time of year or any number of random factors (a buck rammed my foxhound when I was a kid, despite being like 3 times his size). Nor would you know how disturbing chronic wasting disease looks. It's literally nicknamed "zombie deer" because it rots their brains and bodies simultaneously. So yeah, needless to say I've always sort of hated deer in ways that range from annoyance to spite to fear/paranoia... so this SCP is great for my sanity! Never before have I put off watching one of your videos for so long, but I was the title and thumbnail in the notification and was like "Yeah, I don't need this atm."

The most interesting part of this is that its clear that whatever the hell is going on, there's something either inside the deer that is changing their bodies or it's something pretending to be a deer. I like that whatever the creature is, it is both intelligent and not infallible as there's multiple moments in the article where the entity clearly makes some kind of mistake and the subsequent violence or escape is the creature panicking.

Love how some of the rural myths have been gaining relevance as SCPs. The "not deer" has been a myth down here in rural Mississippi for a long time too. But it also borrowed attributes from skin walkers and windiegos. As a kid I was taught how to hunt and handle guns. Namely, how to be safe with firearms, and how to make clean, ethical kills. We were regaled with stories of people who would let animals suffer, being found barely alive, but fully skinned and some of their guts eaten/removed only to die a short time later from extreme trauma and blood loss. Legends were of deer that looked just not quite normal, emaciated, almost decomposed, joints int he wrong places, or bending the wrong ways, horns that moved or twisted, extra eyes, no eyes, wrong eyes, wrong teeth, covered in blood, or walked/moved in erratic jerky, or otherworldly manors. Normally after witnessing the beast and acknowledging something was not right, they'd twist their head around in impossible ways to stare dead at the hunter, and standing up on hind legs. Only to either sprout root like tendrils from their bodies, or grow rapidly and their skin shredding as they enraged and enlarged and then chasing down the unethical hunters for their own sick sport. Always though, blood curdling screams and them shouting either just the person's name or "WHY !?" Though oddly some times it was reported that they'd even use the voices of loved ones like wives, daughters, sons, or such. In some of the tales they even apparently had some control over the minds of their prey, or very nature around them. Making a clear day storm, or turning the normal game trails into endlessly twisting paths of living thorn brambles that shred people as they flee. Tales of roots pinning people in place, or the treetops growing so dense mid day became pitch as night. When asked what the creatures were, or came from, we were told it was an endless cycle, that unethical hunters would be eaten by the not-deer and their souls would then inhabit the dying game they'd let suffer, and their twisted visage was a reflection of what they'd done. Or that some committed the ultimate sin of hunting man like game and eating his flesh, only to turn into this twisted abomination of predator and prey.

several years back there was a Halloween event on Layton where 'cursed' deer and elk that were twitchy, twisted, and glitching. At first you were investigating them, but eventually the mission culminated in them attacking that old church on Layton in waves. UNFORTUNATELY I had just started playing and only had a .243 and a .270 with not much ammo between them, and it took the longest time before I realized I was going for lung/heart shots instead of brain shots to maximize ammo efficiency. In fairness, some of their heads were very twitchy. I don't know if I reached the final wave or they took pity on the fact I legitimately was out of ammo and could not continue. This is my favourite SCP so far. As someone who loves skinwalker/wendigo stories, I can see the inspiration that was put into this SCP. This is genuinely creepy, and some parts of this story, like the emergency services telling the caller to go investigate, and the 6448 going into all fours and scuttling toward the wardrobe. The latter was absolutely brilliant, and I love how the story ties into the Roswell crash incident. This is an incredibly creative story, and it is refreshing to be unsettled by SCP after years of me being numbed by it.

My only issue with this one is the first emergency call. Not only would they never ask someone in possible danger to open their domicile to put a phone outside so they can hear, they'd NEVER ask them to go into the woods to investigate themselves.
SCP is so consistently fun cause I see the name or thumbnail and I go "that's very silly" and then it's taken as seriously as tuberculosis and I go "oh my God..."

If I had a penny for every deer-related SCP I've seen, I'd have at least 3. Which isn't much, but someone on the site must have a thing for deers at this rate. @shentanomoroy7361 I'd been driving down the alcan highway for the previous 4 days, so it was already a long road trip, but I'm making my way through the southeast part of Wyoming at around 11pm and I nearly hit a deer corpse on the side of the interstate. About 10 minutes later I came across another deer corpse that looked remarkably like the first one. Another 15 minutes, another deer corpse, but it looked like it was hunched over in the process of getting on its launches. This happened for another 3 more "deer" and it looked like each time they were getting closer to standing. I stopped at the next motel after that, because I was clearly too damn tired to be driving

Honestly? This is *S-Tier* horror writing. It really goes to show that you don't need some big, grandly horrifying concept to make effective horror; sometimes the best horror is the horror written in tiny little puzzle pieces, little blips of information that are just specific enough that your mind starts racing to fill in the gaps with the worst case scenario. It's the kind of horror that, bit by bit, claws itself under your skin and gnaws at that tiny little voice in your head that tells you "Something is horribly, *horribly* wrong here". There's one part in particular that *really* got to me, and it's what inspired me to write this comment. It's the not-deer home invasion; the complete erasure of any video evidence say for a single bombshell frame. But it's the information the writer *chooses* to give us, namely... why did they specify that the not-deer were not seen exiting the home?... ...Are they still there? This is the kind of horror that actually keeps me up at night. It's phenomenal, I want more like this.
