I live in Suedberg. That bridge is in horrible shape. The mill creek has floodd several times, the last in 2018 it was closed for a couple weeks. A year ago they did a lot of surveying. We all thought they would replace it but I guess they' re waiting for it to collapse. Also that folding chair was mine. Many of us from the church in Suedberg walk back to the creek to swim. Thanks for rerminding me i left my chair back there!

What a lovely that place. Gorgeous area. BTW it’s 30oC here in Australia and we are informed this will be hottest summer yet. Feel so bad for the animals. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care

That’s awesome trail to ride Ebike on. I never knew it used to be for train use. I usually start at the other end and go past the Borden cabin and lope back on that side

Wow! I've seen bridges torn down that were in better shape than that one. Thanks for the great videos and be safe out there.

There's a reason it's called Mill Creek. The 'dike' could be part of a mill pond used by the mill.

My thoughts are that there would have been a canal channel in Mill Creek caused by the back up of water caused by the big dam that was built for the Union Canal. Canal would have been used to service the forge up in the valley.
@martytobias239Күн бұрын
There was a large dam on the swatara south of the bridge that was part of the canal system,the dike continues to the confluence with the swattie,many think it is a tow path but it is part of the old dam.

The county engineers office phone call wouldn't hurt As suggested, D.O.T. customer care center phone call wouldn't hurt.In both cases, it couldn't hurt.

And to think that Gov. Shapiro just transferred 153Million in funding AWAY from the rural road/bridge projects for mass transit/SEPTA. And it's only a temporary fix. It looks like that 'rural' bridge could use a lot of help. Perhaps sharing your vid with PennDot or a local news station could get some repair action going. Shame on PA. High gas taxes equals terrible roads and rotting bridges. Always enjoy your vids. Thanks so much!

That “laurel” Forest you were walking through on the trail , looks like Rhododendrons . Are they one in the same thing ?
@jayforkner2692Күн бұрын
Mountain laurel and rhododendron are both shrubs that are often confused because they have similar appearances before they bloom. However, they have several differences. Google is your friend.

Welcome to PA. We have some of the highest gas taxes in the nation for "road maintenance" but Harrisburg always finds something else to spend the money on. Remember the bridge in Pittsburgh that fell down with a city bus on it? Yep, welcome to PA.

Imagining the raised up area may be a canal from the furnace at the reservoir(?). Does it line up?

The bridge is scheduled for replacement according to PennDOT. Bids for the construction to replace the bridge are scheduled to be opened on 8/14/2025.

I love how the crumbling bridge was made 'safer' by adding all those heavy concrete barriers. Yikes!

Bridge was constructed, at this point nearly 100 years ago. That was before the modern montra of protecting the public from itself.

Raised areas could be remnants of lateral moraine left at the end of the last ice age. Too long to be man made. Finger glaciers could have extended into the area.
@norm9517Күн бұрын
as far as that raised area goes may be they never finished it and that was as far as they got, hey what was that ruin on the corner near where you parked could that have been an old house or a mill or blacksmith shop
